i got a new card reader and it's in my computer but my photoshop is not recognizing it . i have tried to change the preferences etc. i can read the card if i connect my camera directly to one of the usb ports in the card reader, the power light is lit on the card reader but it is not reading the card.any ideas? the card reader is not showing up in the device list and i have tried to refresh the list but it's still not showing up. i tried to open the device via the organizer, editor and tray icon and also tried to directly open the reader via my computer, none worked

well i have no idea now what is going on ...i thought maybe the downloader was messed up as i couldn't do a backup yesterday( same old same old photoshop problems so obvioulsy when i said it was fixed i spoke to soon) uninstalled and reinstalled photoshop, reinstalled the patch and did a repair install...but....my new card reader( inland) i can read for sd but not cf cards...the same cf cards will read from my camera...now my old card reader( irocks) that hasn't worked for a few weeks started working again as well and read all my cards. but the new one is still not reading the cf cards, just the sd cards????maybe it's the card bay or something?????....
what the hay de hay is going on here... my computer stopped, said some new hard or soft ware had done something and to start in a system restore point, it started , did a scan disk and i got an error saying a temp file "jet98(?)something something" was not the right size.it fixed that. i unplugged both readers.. then my computer froze and some weird thing on a black screen came up said it needed to start in a different mode basically a system restore point.( like if you start in safe mode) did that 2 times, third time it said to start in normal mode if it had unexpectedly turned off ( nothing on scan of disk was wrong) i did, i reattached old card reader and everything seems ok, old reader is working, new reader is not. downloader is working as well...
?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????:badpc: :badpc: :badpc: :badpc:

The slot on the reader for the CF card can it hold both cf I and cf II type cards? If so which type are you using? If you're using cf I make sure the card is inserted correctly. I sometimes do this on my reader. The CF slot holds both I and II cards and I won't insert my cared correctly. The card would be 1/2 in th I portion and 1/2 in the II portion.

it will only take the skinnier ones ( don't know if that's one or two) which my cards are but my sd to cf adapter is like the fatter cf cards and won't fit at all. i'm just going to take it back and hope my old one keeps working

i just thought..this stuff is supposed to be plug and play..good thing i don't have to do anything but plug it in or i would be really in trouble:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
i wonder if my computer is just super touchy about getting new hardware or programs...it's dell but older. we just got a new hard drive installed about 6 months ago but holy crow!!! maybe we just need something more than pentium 4????

A P4 is fine. It's probably nothing more then a bad care reader. The usb ports on the p/c are they usb 1 or usb 2?

What virus protection software are you running. Norton gives me trouble when I try to attach an external hard drive.

Because a card reader is "external/removable" media antivirus software considers it a possible attack point.
when you say it is in the computer do you mean it is in the case and wired to an internal usb port. Or is it an external card reader?

To check if the antivurs is the problem then reboot the computer, disable the antivirus then attach the card reader and see if it works.

also check for bent pins or a pin with something blocking the connection. Like dried up soda or paper or something.

no the dried up soda is in the keyboard not the memory card:rotfl2:

i just took it back since the old one seems to be working for now. bil said part of my computer problems could me our piddly 512 mb of ram so now Hub has decided we need a new computer since our old one has, as the shop guy said "antique" ram that costs $$$ to replace so i am probably just going to look for one with a card reader on it. until then photoshop will be a problem

I have found that any open area on a computer gets loaded with dust. I did not use the onboard reader at my office for a year. WHen I finaly did, it worked fine but when I removed the card then end was caked with dust.
I reccomend a piece of tape over the slots if you are not using them. If you are then maybe a piece of felt covering them.

the problem with a new computer. Used to have time to run to the ladies (mens) room while batch processing. Maybe not any more... hehehehee

Well when you do decide to get a new computer I wouldn't get anything less then 2gb of memory.

that's what bil said since for windows vista i think it has to be 1 g at least...of course i just got used to xp
we had our computer in a paritally finished basement for 2 yrs...it was crammed with dust:eek: never even thought of it..and i wonder why it is slow, surprised it isn't dead

Get Vista quick, before its replacement (Vienna) comes out or you'll be in the same situation again, soon. (slotted to be released late 2009).
that is crazy!! anything to charge more money. i heard it had some major problems so i can just imagine how much fun i will have:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

my pc only has 512 of ram and I don't have the problems you are having, so it's probably not that

What type of ram? At two years old it cold be only pc133 depending on the cost at that time.
Or would that be more like 6 years, it is all a blurr...

??? my pc is 4.5 years old..

our ram is so old it's really expensive( like about $600+ at the least to go to 1 gb from 512 mb, can't fit 2gb into the computer, something about it has to be in pairs and should be sequential numbers, i just heard the cost and thought, forget it buy a new computer since we also need a moniter)

i got a email from inland about the card reader i couldn't get to work...the reader i had only reads up to 1 gb cards:rolleyes: ...considering how big cards have gotten you'd think they'd mention that little tidbit on the package somewhere ..and the card i was reading was 2gb.
