Downloading Fonts?

Even though I am NOT new to scrapbooking, I am new to downloading and using different type fonts. I do have the few that is already on the computer plus I also have the ones from Stampin Up. Can someone explain to me how I go about getting "specialized" ones. Namely the Disney ones and I'm also adding a link to a Spongebob one that I'd like.

I will have to look around and find my info about where I got most of my Disney fonts, but I can tell you they were FREE! Except for a few fonts from www.scrapnfonts.com, I've never paid for a font. And I LOVE fonts and have tons of them (probably too many!). Let me check around here and I'll let you know where I found them. Also, check some of the stickies at the top of this page. I know there are several links to font websites........P


ETA: I guess I didn't really answer your question fully. You were wondering about how to get them onto your computer??? Not an expert here for sure, but I usually save them to my desk top and then have to "unzip" them and load them into my fonts folder. DH usually helps me with this step, as I am technologically challenged! I'm sure someone else will be able to come along and help......P

For Frontierland I have something listed as "Circus"

And for Adventureland I have something listed as "Newfoundland"

I have also found an Aladdin font called "A whole new world"... has the Aladdin characters in the font.

I have also found a font called "Pooh Bear" that has Pooh charaters as Dingbats. Also "Mickey Mouse bats" has Mickey Dingbats.



I will look some more and let you know if I find anything else.

BTW, I know that a Lilo and Stitch font (or lookalike) is called "Dream of Me" and I found it at www.acidfonts.com

For other Disney type fonts this is what I have found and most of them were at www.acidfonts.com


For MGM Studios.... for the "MGM" part I used "Goudy Handtooled BT" and for the "Studios" part I used "Standing Room Only" (and obviously the Walt Disney Script for the "Disney" part).

I went to that site and I'm not sure if I downloaded the font correctly. I told ya, I'm so computer challenged, it's not even funny. I followed the directions and I have this little icon in my documents that says this when I click on it.

Can someone help this computer illiterate?

INSTALLATION

To install any TrueType font, simply copy it to your Windows\Fonts folder.
(AND I DID THIS) but I still can't figure out how to use it.

Slight upsizing to lowercase letters; updates to some characters based on recent logos; additional symbols; miscellaneous tweaking.


SPACING NOTES
-------------
The lowercase "i" and "j" have presented a spacing challenge due to their extraordinarily large dots. They have been spaced so that they fit in well with other lowercase characters. The problem with this narrow spacing is that the dot may overlap a preceding capital. While this overlap has been compensated for with kerning pairs, not all applications support kerning. So, I've provided a couple of solutions for situations in which overlap is undesired but kerning is not an option.

The left brace key "{" will produce a dotless "i" and the right brace "}" a dotless "j." The less-than sign "<" has an optional small dot that it can be typed directly after the dotless characters to position the dot squarely on top.

Additionally, the greater-than sign ">" will produce a "hairspace" which can be used to add a tiny bit of space before an "i" or "j" or any other character.

Note that not every capital requires pairing with these alternate versions -- for instance, the pair "Di" looks fine without any modification or kerning.

The braces and greater/less than signs have been added to the font at new locations. See the ADDITIONAL CHARACTERS section below.


KERNING NOTES
-------------
Some programs (like Microsoft Word) may require that you enable kerning before it will properly space kerning pairs. Kerning is highly recommended for this font! (In MS Word: Format>Font>Character Spacing>Kerning for fonts...)

Also, many publishing programs allow you to manually adjust the tracking and leading, so you can tweak the spacing between letters and lines to suit your specific needs.


TO TYPE THE WALT DISNEY LOGO
----------------------------
To accurately recreate the "Walt Disney" logo using text, enable kerning and type "WaltDisney" with no space between the words. To type the logo as a dingbat, hold down the Alt key while typing 0172 on the numeric keypad.

Once it's in your fonts folder you can just select it as you would any other font

I use Windows XP and this is what I do and is the easiest way to install a font.

>> Download the file, but... choose OPEN file, not save.
>> It will open itself in WinZip. (assuming you have WinZip, if not go get it!)
>> If you have several files listed in your zip, choose the .ttf file(s) by clicking on it to highlight it. The other files are unnecessary. If there are more then 1 .ttf files, Cntl-Click to highlight more then one.
>> Click on the EXTRACT button on the top bar.
>> Click on the + by your C: drive, then again on Windows folder and then again on your Fonts folder. Most of us have it in directory c:\windows\fonts, if you have a different location for your fonts, go there instead.
>> Click EXTRACT at the bottom area and you are done.

I don't know if I have WinZip or not (I told you I have NO CLUE when it comes to computers) I'll have to ask DH. So once it's all downloaded, how do I use it though? AAARRRGHHH

If you are using XP, you don't need WinZip; there's some sort of unzip program inherent to XP. Just look for that "Extract" when you right click on the icon of the zipped file. I always choose to extract to the same location as the zipped file. For instance, for fonts, during the download process I usually tell the program to save the zipped file to the Desktop, so it's easy to see after the download. Then, I "extract" the file by right clicking and choosing Extract All, and it'll install the unzipped file on the Desktop, too. When I open that unzipped file, I usually see a little double T icon (for a TrueType font) or an O icon (for OpenType font). I open up my Control Panel (Start button at the bottom of the screen, then choose Control Panel) then look for the Fonts Folder. Either drag & drop that font icon, or copy & paste it into that folder.

Next time you start a program like Photoshop/Photoshop Elements, it should appear on your font list when you choose something like the text tool. Or it should be listed in whatever program you're using that uses fonts...even ones like MS Word.
