is it possible to downgrade your view at check in and then get a refund an your points from MS. an example reserve a blt theme park view1bdr then at check in they only have a very low floor theme park view but they have a very nice lake view avaliable can i take the lake view and be refunded the points since lake view is lower in points. has anyone ever tried this kind of thing. my fear is going to blt and getting one of those very low theme park rooms that i understand are not that good as far as view. i really want theme park view . has any had one of those low rooms are they that bad. thanks

dunno....I think they charge extra for upgrading so it seems plausible that it would work both ways.... I would suggest calling DVC Member Services and ask that question.... it is a good one!

If there is availability, possibly, but it would need to be availability for the entire length of your stay, which if your traveling during most seasons, that will probably not be an option.

You would either lose the points (cancellation on the day of arrival) or they would go into holding (change less than 30 days out).

And the other view might not be available.

Besides what Deb and Bill said, the left over points would become "holding points" and would be subject to the difficult to use Holding category. That means you can only reserve them 60 days out.

Your concern is one of the reasons I will probably never spend the extra points to do MK view.

I would also be concerned about getting a lower floor room. As mentioned, any changes to a reservation less than 31 days out would result in holding points. If you are okay with that, then I am sure they would move you and adjust the points if there is a room to change to.

From the member website:
Changing a reservation on the check-in date:
If the new reservation uses fewer Vacation Points than the original reservation, the remaining Vacation Points will be forfeited.

We "downgraded" last year at Vero Beach to take Inn rooms instead of our villa. The points went into holding and ultimately we lost them. Not very many though....

It was in January of 2010 and we booked a lake view, but got a low floor. I did talk to member services while I was there, and in the end, I was refunded the difference. It was not a lot of points, but they did even put them into the next use year at their own suggestion. We have a March UY, and would not have been able to use them.

If you get a bad view, you're better off calling Member Services at the start of your stay to discuss/complain. Depening on the reasonabilty of your complaint they may or may not be willing to do something for you.

Otherwise, at best your points go into holding and at worst (and per policy) points are forfeited.

The likelihood of a lesser view being available is fairly remote. Though MK view to LV is much more likely than LV to SV.

Bad view is relative. And someone is going to have to occupy that villa. It won't stay vacant forever. Some villas have better views than others.

I will say that before we joined DVC...we got poor views 100% of the time.

After joining DVC, we've gotten great views 90% of the time. [The other times were a standard view Kidani and at BC. I had requested 2 studios close together and to give Sis the better view, which she got!] I know that 90% success is a little bit of the luck of the draw...but its true.

I will say...MK view in the South Garden Wing on the 1st floor IS a view of the parking lot. The worst was paying extra for a Courtyard View at WL, and being in the last bottom floor room on the outside of the U.
