I spoke to a sales rep the other day and they mentioned that after six months you double your points. can someone explain this please? we are looking at blt or akv. thanks

Wouldn't that be nice, sounds like a sales line to me. :sad2:

Maybe they meant that you are getting this years points and in 6 months when your UY hits, you get those points. This isn't a special freebie, everybody gets it.

DVC has typically offered Use Years within about 6 months - so if you purchased today with a February Use Year, you would get another allotment of points again in February.

IMO, it is a bit misleading but not a false statement since you will be getting 2 points allotments in the next 6 months. If they would sell you a contract with a September Use Year (or if you can find one thru resale) you would get the 2011 Use Year points immediately and the same number of points on September 1.

With resale purchases, some have been able to purchase contracts with 3 years worth of points - 2009 points banked into 2010, 2010 points and 2011 points (that could happen for September - December Use Years).

Use Year is the date each year when your points are renewed - so with a February Use Year, you will always have another points allotment on February 1 each year.

here is a thread for understanding use year.

remember that UY tells you when your pts are valid - feb 1, 2012 to jan 31, 2013 for a feb 2012 UY - but that UY has nothing to do with when you can call to book. you could have booked a reservation for feb 1, 2012 on march 1, 2011 at your home resort - even if you didn't have any pts coming until feb 2013 (you can borrow 1 year ahead so your feb 2013 pts would be valid for the dates in your 2012 use year.)

This is where we messed up when adding on BLT direct. We fumbled around too long deciding if we wanted to do it and purchased our August use year points in August. Had we done it in July, we'd have gotten an extra years worth of points. Missed it by about a week and all our fault for being conservative and over thinking the decision.

We knew we wanted August to match our existing use year. Dumb on our part. :sad2:

I did the opposite....we have a Feb UY and added on 50 pts at HHI on January 23! I promptly banked them and since we aren't going to HHI again until 2013, I used all 100 of them (2010 and 2011) to book my F&W trip this fall:goodvibes. Additionally, since I purchased them after January 1, there were no maintenance fees on the 2010 points:thumbsup2.

I paid $4000 for the 50 points. For our October trip, at rack rate, our reservation would be $2900! That's for 2 nights in a LV studio at BLT and 3 nights in a standard 1BR at BWV. I reached 75% of my "breakeven" cost...on just ONE vacation!

We missed it by 3 days 1 year. The following year we added on again, just 1 month early.
Good luck with your decision.
