We stayed there before and loved it. They usually have fresh baked cookies waiting for you at the front desk when you check in. They also like to leave towel animals on the pillows. It's on Major Blvd which parallels International Drive so you can get around without all of the traffic jams. The only minus I can think of was that the pool wasn't heated. We were there in October. I jumped in and jumped out twice as fast. They did have a hot tub so I could warm back up.
$55 is a great rate. We got it for $40 through Priceline and were thoroughly satisfied.
Thanks for the update. Basically a place to sleep. We will not get there till 9-10 pm that Friday night, and then will get up early and check in at POR.
So I was looking for someplace cheap, that was not a dive.

We got ours by naming our own price at Priceline. When you do that you only get an area, not a hotel. Doubletree Castle is just where we happened to end up.
We stayed tehre a few years back and enjoyed it. I'm glad it's had a refurb, it kind of needed a little TLC. It was still very nice, but wasn't just quite up to prime.
We also enjoyed the breakfast at the resort. One thing I really enjoyed was taking my breakfast out by the pool. They have - or at least had tables out there.
We also liked the streakhouse out front. I think it was called Vito's Chophouse. Next door is a kind of tapas restaurant. it was also pretty good, but by the time we ordered enough food it wasn't especially inexpensive. That was a few years ago though.
The location is also a plus esp. if you are going to Universal and the I-Drive attractions. Even with one night, you can enjoy some of the fun things to do around that area of I-Drive.
I also booked the $49.00 price from Travelzoo. We are staying next weekend (2/20-2/21). We have family staying at the Beach Club and since we wanted something inexpensive this looked like a great deal. We didn't want to stay at WDW this time because we are just having dinner with them and hanging around DTD. I have stayed next door at the Springfield Suites and the location is very convenient. I will let everyone know how it goes.
We just returned from our weekend trip to Orlando and stayed at the Doubletree Castle. I thought it was pretty nice. We were given our chocolate chip cookies which were great. We checked in around 10:00pm on Friday and with no wait. One of the things I like about this place is you need a room key to access the elevator. We stayed on the fourth floor with a pool view. Not bad for getting a 49.00 rate. When we walked in the room I noticed a bit of a musty smell. It wasn't very overwhelming but noticeable. By the time we woke up the next morning and through the rest of the weekend I didn't notice it, but we also keep the air conditioning on even though it was chilly to keep the air moving. We also had an elephant towel animal in the room. The bathroom was large and had Neutrogana products, some of the tile was coming off the wall and the room did show some signs of aging but it was very clean.
The location is great we had driven to SeaWorld, Universal, and The Beach Club Villas to visit family (which were awesome, makes me wish I had a DVC!) and everything was in close proximity.
I would stay here again if the rate was good. I have stayed in places in the area I liked better but for 49.00 it was excellent.
I hope all of you get a good experience there too!
