Double Wide Stroller Should Be Banned

Now one thing that does happen to me time and time again  is that people walk so closely to me, they stand on the back of my flipflop/thong/sandal and as I walk, the front nearly detaches, always cuts into my foot and it hurts! Arrggghhh :headache: Hmmmm, I wonder if we could ban these offenders!

Okay the visual of someone stepping on your thong made me laugh out loud. Pretty sure we aren't thinking of the same thing though.

Really if you are aganist double strollers try going to an Adult only locale such as Sandals...Us double stroller pushers won't miss you one bit!

ive decided on my next trip that i am going to get 2 double wides and put them next to each other so i can block off the entire walk way.. im glad someone else feels the way i do about the worst invention ever

You know this is a great idea... then you could come behind the parade and not let people through and everyone would have to follow you out of the park. It would be the perfect disney job for the parent with their hands full already!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Maybe it could be assigned like a family of a day situation?! :thumbsup2

PS- please believe me when I tell you you would much rather have a person pushing a double wide then a front/backer.... I'm too short to see over the front of my double long and can guarantee that I will take you out at the ankles EVERYTIME!!

OP,

The strollers don't bother me, its the people with two legs who always get in our way. I liked so much more when the one legged people would hop around the park.

Does make one wonder though what did families do before double wide strollers, they seemed to manage. :confused3

Families didn't travel as much in the past as they do now, so I'm sure "managing" for many was not traveling while the kids were small enough to need strollers. I know that's how MIL managed with two kids a year apart - they were 4 & 5 before they so much as went to the zoo. Parenting styles and expectations are different now, though, and parents aren't going to "manage" without a product that is available and affordable simply because some folks don't care for it.

People managed before ECVs too, but I'll bet most of the people who use them at Disney managed mostly by avoiding situations that require a lot of walking.

That aside, what it really amounts to is rude people. There are rude people pushing double strollers, single strollers and no strollers. I guess that there is no way to ban rude people though.

Oh, how I wish there were! We just got home from a rather long, hot day at the zoo and let me tell you it is a good thing I'm a licensed master stroller driver because apparently the darned thing is rendered absolutely invisible to people with cameras or cell phones in their hands! I lost count after the 6th person cut me off so I had to pull up short or mangle their ankles... Maybe if I had a double-wide double instead of a compact single people would see it? :confused3

After Disney solves the dilemma of just how much body hair is acceptable in the parks I think they need to turn their attention to developing a way to identify and tag the "in my own world" folks so those of us in control of wheeled conveyances can be forewarned. See, I don't mind sharing the parks with them, I just want some notice before they step right in front of my moving stroller and then stop dead to take a picture.

Okay... I'm thinking that t catt11 needs to start a facebook page, for those who see the humor in every single one of his threads, so we can all sign up to be his fans! Guess my "warped sense of humor" understood all of his posts that many thought were awful! :rotfl2: As for double wide strollers... no biggie to me... it is the "adult" behind them that must not understand how to handle them.... "hmmm... I have a 5 foot wide stroller - I bet I can make it through that 2 foot opening!"

I have to assume that they are a huge pain for the owner also, especially getting on and off a bus

I took a look for some older Disneyland photos to see if there are any strollers and indeed I did find some. I didn't find any double wides though.

I do have a question for those who are OK with double wides without proper liscensing, are you all OK with Brazilian Tour Groups also? I only bring it up because a lot of the argument for letting double wides go is that it's personal choice to do what you want while on vacation.

However, I have seen a lot of complaints directed towards BTGs because they are doing what they want on vacation, hanging in huge packs, chanting, singing, and doing teenager things.

popcorn::
As a mom that typically rented a double City Mini stroller and this year rented the Disney double stroller, I don't think they one bit too "wide" for park use. They fit thru all the doors with ease and don't take up that much extra room at all.

They take up as much room as a parent holding the hand of their child side by side walking thru the crowd and that is worse than a double stroller trying to navigate thru the crowds.

And as another poster stated.....it's DISNEY WORLD...this is geared to kids and families! There are going to be kids in strollers!! One person cannot push 2 single strollers and most tandem strollers only seat YOUNG children....not a 4 or 5 year old.

I tried reading through all of the posts, but there are a lot.

I have used a double stroller in the past. I think they are like everything else, don't blame the strollers blame the operator. The stroller is an inanimate object, it can't hurt you. The ignorant person behind the "wheel" is the one to blame. Maybe Disney can have a 5 hour stroller-driving training course for all guests with double strollers? ;)

To me, the two issues are actually very similar - both the groups and the strollers should absolutely be welcomed in the parks, BUT in both cases the responsible adults in charge (whether of the group or the stroller) need to ensure they aren't negatively impacting other guests. Personally I'd put the on-ride chanting in the same category of annoyance as poor stroller etiquette. And in both cases I think it is an overreaction to want new rules based entirely on the worst extremes.

I understand the need for strollers, and we used a single wide when our kids were young. However, those double wide strollers are a pain to get around for everyone in the park. Worse yet is when they bring them into buildings. Often times there is no way around them. I can't imagine using a double wide at WDW is easy either. They should just ban them, even if that's what WDW rents.

BTW, at no point during our trip did I even notice the ECVs or wheelchairs, just the doublewide strollers plowing their way through the crowd.

Get over it. We plan on bringing our double wide stoller in 3 weeks. It is the same size as a wide wheelchair. I prefer this to the front and back and the back person not being able to see a thing. Find something else to do with your time than complain about this. This thread is not beneficial to Disney at all!

No argument from me. Disney was nicer when there were a lot less strollers, IMO because this is the Dis.

I think they could ban them from going inside buildings but allow them in the park. They do make massive log jams in stores.

To one of the posters yes I would bring 2 umbrella strollers. don't know why the older kids would have to push one I only see a baby and a 2 yr old?

Um, ever heard of TWINS???

I use a double side by side for my twins because they are comfortable in its, it folds easily, and I can choose whichever stroller I want.

This is Disney for God's sake.

Why do so many people have to be such child/parent haters??

I have no issues with them in the parks. I would LOVE to see them banned in the stores, though!

So how would a parent with two small children (twins maybe?) go into a store and have a chance to look around?

Think before you speak.

I think the point is simply that they don't care. No amount of rational discussion will make some people change their views on certain issues, it's simply a lost cause.

Completely agree. :thumbsup2

I think it's as realistic to ban double strollers as it is to ban an large tour groups of any ethnicity. As Colleen said, the responsibility is on the adults in each situation to try to limit the negative impact on other guests. That said, double strollers and BTG's along with a handful of other potentially annoying things are a reality of Disney World that is not going away. When faced with any of these, I do my best to smile and remember that I'm still at Disney. :)

I'm sure you weren't necessarily directing thist at the OP, but at the general anti-double stroller sentiment in the thread, but the OP has had a change of heart since starting the thread.

T-catt11 is going to get a job with Disney and be in charge of training stroller operators and punishing those who operate strollers disrespectfully. It's part of their new customer service policy, "Stop being rude at Disney or we'll sic T-catt on you!" ;)

While we are banning Double Strollers and Brazillians, lets also ban cheerleaders from the food court at Dixie Landings.

18 pages! I hope somewhere in this thread there is a picture of the Grill-Cooler combo that I want to bring into the park for grilling and beer.
