We might not be a ble to stay onsite our next trip, just too expensive without good discounts. We have been thinking about staying at Double Tree Universal--we would appreciate any thoughts on the place.

Thanks!!!!
Flo

Well we are back from the Doubletree Universal and I have so say that I was more than a little disapointed. Here are the problems we encountered:
1) Staff was rude.
2) we were told that there was free transportation to USF/IOA and seaworld every 45 minutes, well when we checked in we found out it was only twice a day. If you wanted to get to the parks at a different time you either had to walk, drive, or take a cab (5$ each way)
3) we were also told that the internet access was free - NOT! It was $9.95 per day.
4) As a Hilton Honors member, you are supposed to get small gifts upon check in such as bottled water etc.. We got a coupon to go have breakfast and get a time share lecture.
5) The biggest thing was the check in. We arrived at around 3pm and our room was not ready - no big deal so we left and came back around 4pm and was told our room would be ready in 15 minutes so we waited in the lobby. About 30 minutes later, still no room. Waited another 45 minutes, by this time my husband was getting upset so they gave us a room. We paid the bellman to take up our stuff and found out the room was non smoking (we had requested smoking). So I called down to the desk and was told that if we smoked in that room they would fine us $250 but if we wanted to wait, they would have another room ready in 30 minutes. Well about an hour later and 2 trips down to the front desk we FINALLY got our room. It smelled so bad in there that the maid had left an air purifer in the room.

I called Doubletree complaint line when we got home and was refunded 1 nights stay plus the internet charges and was given a free night stay at any Hilton in the US, which I thought was fair.
We had a bad experience, but that does not mean anyone else will, I just want you to have a heads up.
Hope this helps.

Sorry to hear that you had problems. We have reservations for that hotel in November. Thanks for the info.
