Double Stroller

My dd uses her stroller as a wheelchair when we go to disney. This year, we will have a new addition to the family when we travel. The double stroller I have is a side by side. Will this type of stroller be too wide to fit in the lines? Has anyone used a side by side double as a wheelchair? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

my husband is a quad and uses a maual chair. we have 2 YO twins, and I have a double BOB stroller that fits through any space wide enough for a standard wheelchair.
check with your stroller manufacturer, they should let you know how wide it is.
I bring ours everywhere, as it turns easily and pushes easily. I love it.

We have used many strollers during our trips in the past. The only one we found to be a problem was the double jogging type. They where just a little big to fit through some of the lines.

Oh no! My stroller is a double jogger. What type of jogger was it? Mine is a phil and ted. It's the only double I have.

You might have a problem with any buses and also any rides or attractions. The attractions do not allow any strollers into the queues and usually you need a QAC card stating that you are using the stroller as a wheelchair for any handicapped children but you have a double stroller being used as a wheelchair and also a standard stroller.

you will be fine- last trip we used a city classic double- I don't know of any bigger than that- and occasionally it was a tight fit, but it worked out fine. Have a great trip!

jworkkul we will have our car, so no worries about the bus. My daughter does get a GAC for her stroller to be used, but it has always been a single stroller. Will it be a problem to use the double in lines since only one child needs it for a wheelchair?

I don't know if it will be a problem in any of the attractions since there will be two children riding in the "stroller". I guess it will be up to the discretion of the CM's attending the specific attractions if they will view it as a "stroller" or "wheelchair" type device. Follow the link in my signature to the disABILITIES FAQs thread. Post #6 of that thread is about GAC (Guest Assistance Cards) and has a section about using a stroller as a wheelchair.
As ireland_nicole mentioned, people do use double strollers as wheelchairs in line - as long as it is 29 inches or smaller in width and you have a GAC or (more usually) a sticker that identifies it as a “stroller as wheelchair” you will be fine.

For buses, your children will need to get out of the stroller and it will be need to be folded. It’s not safe for children to ride in a stroller on the bus and the tiedown straps that are used for wheelchairs can damage strollers since they are not designed for that.

We just got back and used our double stroller for our daugthers (1 with diablietes & the other is 3 months). The cast members didn't give us any problems at all about using it.

Thanks everyone. One more quick question. My sister offered me her tandem stroller to borrow instead of using the side by side. Would this be better to use? My daughter will be 4 at the time and the baby will be 6 months.

It depends on how long it is.
The general rule for Strollers is they must be no wider than 36 inches and no longer than 52. But that's for strollers in general, not strollers in lines. Most wheelchairs and ECVs are 48 inches or less. Anything longer than that will have a hard time in lines and wheelchair spots.
