Double stroller Question

Hi all!! We are planning a trip this October with a 1 yr old and 3 yr old! So just a heads up, I will be posting tons of questions between now and then!! Lol This is new territory for my husband and I, we've been many times just the two of us but I know nothing about going with 2 littles What is our best option for a double stroller?? We will buy/rent whatever will make our trip easier!! I'm a little worried about buses with 2 small children and lugging a double stroller. I need some advice from seasoned double stroller users! Help!!

We've used a double stroller that we brought from home so we could use it at the airport. We had a double umbrella stroller which folded and had a strap so my husband could carry it on the bus. We haven't rented so I can't talk about that but I have read good things, those strollers are bigger than mine is but have the same functions. The bus could be your tricky part of both kids are sleeping.

we rented for our 2 granddaughters. granted we had 4 adults by end of trip had the system down. with just the 2 of you one of you will have to take stroller on and the other will have to get the 2 kids on. plan on folding stroller while waiting for bus. you will not be able to bring on buses with child in it including sleeping. I would plan on a backpack for a diaper bag. one less thing to get out of stroller and carry on bus. you will not be able to bring stroller in ride lines. you park stroller in stroller parking but it can be moved in the area. plan on something to tie on handles so you can see in the parking area easier, balloons can not be taken into AK.

Great idea about a double umbrella stroller, I'm sure those are much lighter... do those lay back for "on the go" naps tho? We are driving, so no need for one in the airport. I think the buses will be our biggest problem... we're staying at BLT and plan on using monorail for MK and EPCOT, so those days should be a breeze

Great tip about tying something to the handle bars, I'll make something with bright ribbons maybe... I'm def worried about getting on the buses with just my husband and I with 2 littles... maybe driving to AK and HWS would be our best bet??

Remember if you have to park too far out you need to take a tram in, and will need to fold the stroller to do so.

And make sure if you buy an umbrella stroller the handles are tall enough you can push it comfortably for a long time. Many have handles that are too short and your back ends up hurting. Not fun.

True... my husband is tall, probably not a good idea, plus I'm hoping for some stroller naps, I don't think that will happen in an umbrella stroller. We have a baby jogger city elite double that is extremely heavy. I was thinking of renting a city mini double if it's lighter. Folding up for tram has got to be easier than folding and lugging on and off a bus, yes? Or no...

When we went last year, my kids were 4.5 and 2 years old. We rented a double city mini from Kingdom Strollers. We kept all essentials (diaper gear, ponchos, snacks, etc.) in a backpack. At the bus stop, I would put my 2 year old into a carrier on my back and she would fall asleep there. My 4.5 year old could walk and tried to get a seat on the bus if he was tired. My husband would wear the backpack and fold/carry the stroller. Any souvenirs we bought either had to fit in the backpack or we had them sent back to our room for us. We stayed for a week and the only time we had an issue was the night we stayed late for fireworks and the 4 year old fell asleep. That night, I carried both kids onto the bus and sat down with them.

It's not awful, unless you are crammed in like sardines, and then you feel like the jerk with such a large stroller. That being said, we're staying at a value in May and repeating the same process again this time.

If you go the backpack route, I also recommend having one that has several pouches or compartments. It's easier to keep diapers/food/items separated so you don't have to dig too deeply on the fly.

Yes, my seats laid back individually. We never went back for a nap. We bought straps that I hooked on to the handles and then clipped my bag to that. My husband is 6 3' and he was fine with pushing, we don't have the little umbrellas for that reason. We had the combi sport. I'll see if I can get a link.

This made me LOL!! We were always the couple that rolled our eyes at the dude taking up half the bus with their double stroller! And now here we are! Haha... funny how that happens .. I'm liking the carrier idea, my oldest will be 3 and shouldn't have a problem holding my hand and loading/unloading bus... but the 1 year old will be a challenge, so now I'm thinking carrier will be the way to go! Thanks!

Thanks for the great tips so far... keep them coming!! So do any of you double stoller users think it's easier to drive yourself to the parks instead of the buses?? Wondering if it's quicker/easier.

We brought our city elite double multiple times. For 20 minutes a day it was a bit annoying but the other 10-12 hours completely worth it. Easy to push, the kids napped when they needed, held everything we needed it to and then some we wanted. Not too many of them around so easy to keep track of. You do need a plan for buses/trams. When we got on line we started packing the stuff that gets unpacked during the day.dh would take the stroller and backpack (with all the stuff if it didn't fit in the backpack we didn't take it). I was responsible for the kids. On the bus he headed to the back. I found seats and we were good.

Our last trip we did take a double macclaren. Dh hates it. It was only easier for the buses. The rest of the time it was harder to push and even though we didn't carry much was a pain for storage. Dh is 6'7" so height is a big deal to him

Not really. You still have to fold it up, and there is not much room to place it on the tram. Someone still has to hold it.

I like the carrier idea, what type did you use?

I used an Infantino Mei Tai on our last trip. We have a trip coming up in April and I plan to bring my Becco Gemini. The Mei Tai folds up nice and small but has long straps that you have to tie. The Gemini (or ergo or Tula etc.) have buckles that make it faster/easier to put on but is a bit bulkier to store. I keep mine in a drawstring bag.

We love our Citi Mini double stroller. We bought it specifically for Disney when my twins were almost 2 and we've used it there now at least 5 times. It's the perfect park stroller IMO because it has large canopies for shade, lays flat for naps, folds in one easy step, maneuvers really well, and has plenty of storage. A soft carrier would be ideal to have as well particularly for the times in the bus. As for actually transporting the stroller on buses it's never been that big of a deal.

I would def. rent a double citi mini from a stroller company in Orlando, unless you have your own. We did a couple years ago for our 7 week old and 6 year old and it worked great. It has a very good sunshade, seats lay flat, and it's really not too bad on the buses and pretty quick and easy to fold up. One of you should plan on being in charge of the stroller, the other the 2 kiddos.
