Double Stroller for big kid and toddler

I'm looking into stroller rental. I have a five year old and a two year old. My five year old won't need it all day but I know she'll want to rest her legs occasionally.

The problem is, all the doubles I've seen for rent specify that each child has to weigh less than fifty pounds, and she's over that. The two together are less than 100, but they seem adamant.

Are there any rental places with bigger double strollers? Or the Baby Jogger City Elite double? I've checked the big name companies but can only find minis and GTs.

It probably won't save the money you're hoping it will, but I thought the strollers at WDW could handle what you're looking for.

I would also recommend renting a stroller in the park for a larger child. They're pretty easy to push, and I think they'd work well with a bigger child. I rent a double stroller at MK when I take my 5 children without my husband for the day, and I've always liked them as long as I don't have a little baby who needs a softer stroller that reclines.

In your shoes, I'd probably take a really good single stroller into the parks, and then if your older one needs a stroller, you can rent one and leave your own stroller at the rental place to use on your way out. Maybe you won't end up needing to rent one every day of your trip.

You'll see a lot of sit-n-stand Joovy Cabooses in the parks. They're great for a situation where the older kid will only need the stroller occasionally. The back area has a sliding bench, so the kid in back can sit or stand. Other models/brands of sit-n-stand are much longer and harder to maneuver. I never liked side-by-side double as they are so wide.

I thought Disney didn't allow jogger strollers, with the one big wheel out front?

as long as they are within the allowable max size they are fine. They have to fold for buses. So some of the ones that convert from a bike attachment to a stroller won't work.

Not sure what your traveling situation is, but when we took our boys - then 2 & almost 5 we bought a Jeep Cherokee Sport double stroller and brought it with us. ( it was like a heavy duty double umbrella stroller) Both boys were big for their age but this accommodated them perfectly- even reclining nicely when they zonked out! It was nice to have the stroller from airport to airport and every second in between and it was lightweight enough to be managed easily. I don't know if they still make this stroller but perhaps something similar would be helpful. I also wouldn't worry about the weight limits too much as your 5 year old will probably want to walk more than ride!

My girls were about to turn 8 and 6 when we rented a double stroller from Baby Wheels Orlando. Believe me, I got a lot of flack from our teenagers and even my husband, but everyone agreed it was the BEST money we could have spent on anything. The stroller was lightweight enough for even the youngest to fold and unfold; it was easy to navigate, easy to fold and carry onto the bus, and was comfortable enough for even our almost 8-year-old to rest her legs. Their ability to sit allowed us to walk at a brisker pace, and refreshed them enough that they were willing to stand on lines. There were cup holders, storage behind the seats, and room underneath for our backpack. I ordered online, and it was waiting for us when we arrived at our hotel, and we left it with the concierge before we headed back to the airport. I would highly recommend them!

We used a sit-n-stand stroller for our trip in 2013 for our then 7 year old and 15 month old. The 7 year old didn't use it a ton, but it was nice to have a place for him to rest his legs when he got tired.

The double Summit still specifies 50lb per seat, and the sit and stands have an even lower weight limit.

We're not on property, so will have our own car. I'll look into the Jeep, but I was really hoping to be able to rent something nicer.

We will be going to the parks for a few days followed by a Disney cruise with our 4.5 and 1.5 year olds. I'm trying to decide if we should bring our umbrella stroller (which reclines and works great for naps--we brought it with us to WDW when our older was 2.5) and rent a second stroller (single, double, or sit & stand) while at the park, or invest in a Sit and Stand (Graco Room For 2 or Joovy Caboose) to bring to the parks and on the cruise. We will have 4 adults at the park, so I'm thinking it may be better to have two separate strollers so we can split up. Also, does anyone know if an older child can still ride (sitting or standing) while the little one is reclined in a sit & stand? Any tips or advice is appreciated.

Forgot to add, that we are staying on site. Is it better to rent from the park or a service that will drop off at the resort?

The Joovy says 45 per seat, but they can easily handle 50+ per seat. Here's my then 7 and 4 year olds, back in October, being silly:


My daughter was well over 48 inches on this trip, probably around 65 lbs. My son was around 35 lbs.

While I'm not suggesting you use a stroller if your children are over the weight limit, I will say that my two boys were definitely over the limit and we didn't have any issues. But that's our experience. If I had restricted myself to the exact weight limit my boys never would have ridden in a stroller!

I have a joovy caboose ultralight. The front seat doesn't recline that much, but the older child can sit or stand while the younger child is in the front portion. Just note when folded it is LONG. It does fold relatively flat, but it is long and this cumbersome to carry. Does push like a dream though for a double!
