Sorry for *another*question! Discussing DVC w my dbf and he wants to know (theroretically) if you can get 150 points at SSR for example and then another 150 points at WL and then have 300 points to use every year. Thanks!

That's called an add-on. We have added on four times. We started out with 175 at OKW. Added on another 75, then another 50 to make 300 at OKW. Then we added on 100 at VWL and then 100 at BCV. We have 500 points each year, but the 11 month advantage at all three, but only with the points at those resorts. So we can use up to 300 points at BCV and VWL if we bank our 100 points one year, then use the banked points, the current points and borrow the next year's points. Same at OKW, but we could have up to 900 points there with banking and borrowing.

But at 7 months out, we can use all 500 at any DVC resort.

We usually wind up using our points each year and never bank, but sometimes borrow.

Yes. ::yes::

I am a new DVC member w/ 400 pts but I actually have 2 contracts. They are both 200pts each and were purchased at the same time and both have the same use year. This was suggested by my DVC contact Gib. His reasons...1. It is easier to sell 200pts then a 400pt contract. 2. I could sell one contract and keep the other if my pt. needs change. 3. I have 2 seperate contracts to leave to my 2 sisters in my will. :earsboy:

To repeat what the 1st responder said, but to make sure you got it:

You'll have:
- 300 points to use every year
- BUT only an 11 month priority window for only 150 points for VWL and 150 points for SSR, unless you've banked or borrowed
- at 7 months, you can use all 300 points for any resort

In addition:
- you won't be allowed to make an 11 month reservation and then at the 7 month mark "switch" which account you want to use to pay for the stay

He steered you in the right direction but you might have been even better served with two 150's and a 100 or one 150 and five 50's, etc.

Adding to what others said: We bought BWV direct from DVC in 1998 and then bought another contract at OKW resale. We have two membership cards and numbers. One for each resort.

Yes. Many of us own at more than one resort. Some of us even have more than one use year.

Be sure you understand how this works!!!! JeanJoe is correct !!! :goodvibes

Example...
If you needed 200 points for either the VWL or SSR. You can borrow from the upcoming years contract for that resort... or.... wait for the 7th month window and hope to use the other resorts points to make additional ressies attached to your original.

You can't borrow one to the other for any 11th month window!!

Swimming against the current here, it's also feasible to buy all your points at the resort you like best. Then you can always book at the 11 month window right up to your full number of points, or you can hold out and use them anywhere within DVC at 7 months. Simplicity has its value, too.

Adding on to JoePoe's post - I have added on three times (all through Disney) but I have one membership card and four contracts under that card.

So this begs to be asked - Is it usual for someone like JoePoe to have two membership cards and two different contract numbers since he bought through two different routes?

Thanks

Cyn

It's likely Joe has different use years. If you have a single use year you will almost always have the points under a master contract. There are advantages both ways but, IMO, much of the simplicity of a single use year and contract goes away when you are dealing with more than one resort. If you are an owner and buy the same use year it is DVC's goal to include your new purchase under the old contract as a sub account. But I understand they have missed a few over the years as well.

We have four add-ons. Three of those four are the same contract and member number, only an extra digit in the contract number. Like 1234.5 and 1234.3. Our other add-on is a different use year, so it is a separate contract number.

If you bank your points, can you choose which account to put them in? If you have 2 contracts, can ALL of your banked points go to one or the other? :confused3

I am in the process of purchasing and trying to figure out the best plan for us. I know SSR is the only resort available, but do not want to buy all of my points there. Was hoping to do the membership at the 150 points at SSR and buy additional points at WL.

Banked points retain the same use year and home resort. The only way around that issue at present is a glitch in the system that they could correct. That is if you had two completely different and unlinked contracts, you could transfer points to yourself. That will not work with contracts that are linked together.

We have two contracts with two different use years. So we have two member numbers and sets of ID cards.

I purchased 220 points at HHI and then added 50 points at the Beach Club about a year later.
