double dipping on fp is gone

We are arriving in about a week to WDW. We were part of a previous test and therefore we have a MB (linked to an AP) and the traditional AP in our hands. We also have a KTTW card (just a room key) from about a year ago.

So................want to know if my plastic AP can be used to pull paper fastpasses and if my 2012 room only key can be used to pull paper fastpasses. I have not surfed the boards lately and could not read all 24 pages.

That boils down to pay-per-ride, and I seriously doubt Disney would do that, especially if Universal does not. It's just...kinda tacky, like a carnival. I seriously doubt that is going to happen. VP

Ah, but when DL opened, it was pay per ride, and it was tiered. I'm sure it was cumbersome, but it happened.
I, for one, would actually welcome a tiered system based on if you are staying on grounds and by resort level and a "pay if you want more" system with a cap. It would be like an added amenity as you move up in resort categories - just like the current ones of having pools with slides, separate quiet pools, CS at your resort, and multiple methods of transportation instead of being at the sole mercy of the dreaded bus. And before I get flamed on the "based on grounds" thing, it's the same as having ME and EMH ... it's an on-grounds perk.
I'm sure many will disagree with me and be more than vocal about it, but that's just my hope.

Yes, old room-only keys and APs can each pull FP-. I confirmed this first-hand on our trip a few days ago.

I would welcome a pay-by-the-ride system if they lowered their ticket prices though. I would love an option where I could just walk around on some days for a reduced rate. Unfortunately, the way they price the tickets (high!) means that people want their fair ride portion out of their days, and that's a different number for everyone.

If that would happen, I would think Disney would reserve a percentage of FPs for those days for those guests based on crowd level predictions, thus keeping the new system close to the old for those using it.

Just arrived home this morning. I have to say that the information that started this thread is not accurate according to our experience last week. We did have Magic Bands and were able to pull fast passes using our tickets every time we tried. We were unable to book a morning time slot for Toy Story so we arrived at the park prior to opening and I went and pulled fast passes using everyone's tickets while they took the grandsons to sign up for the Jedi Training. Also pulled passes for BTMRR using tickets to get an earlier time than we were able to book using FP+. No problems pulling Legacy Passes from our experiences.

I think you are going to be very happy then. It seems at least from my POV that this is where they are headed as well. They have been very upfront about the fact that the intention is to get guests to stay and spend more time on property and not go to US. Seems like they are repackaging FP and will offer it as a perk to give the resorts more "value". Stay at a value get 2 more FP's. Stay at a mod and get 3 more plus and extra tier 1. That kinda thing. Some will love it, some will hate it eventually it will just be "the way it is" and everyone will move on to something else.

If I understand it this only applies to expired room-only cards? I can't for the life of figure out why the system would take those. (And no I don't have any so I won't be trying this.)

As for pay for fastpass, I expect that too. I don't think that it will be widespread initially but I have a feeling that we can expect a test for this someday too. I also believe that FP+ in general will involve some type of extra fee eventually. It might be worked into resort stay prices but it will be there IMO.

I guess if that's how it turns out non-resort guests will access FP (same-day), that would be a huge takeaway for offsite. But it doesn't seem like Disney is going in that direction, I don't think they can. My prediction is that somehow the pre-booking windows end up being the onsite perk.

I think it's because they haven't really changed the change they made back when testing started...the change where a KTTW/AP card could be used to pull a FP- even if it hadn't been used that day for park entry (because testers would have used their MBs to enter). So they didn't fix the core loophole, this is just a way they are just trying to limit the number of FP+ people using FP-.

If they sell them, I think that the price will magically end up being about the price of a value room/divided by four people based on 3 a day

I agree, I don't think it will be same-day either. I think there will be prebooking for everyone, they will just give onsite a jump with the +10, just like ADRs.

Same day could also crater the wifi at the parks at opening - I can just imagine everyone on the buses in the morning screaming at the driver to speed up so they can get connectivity

Did you get a chance to observe how things were at the kiosks while you were there? Were they being utilized, how were the lines, did people seem to be flowing at a decent rate? I'm curious if you think these will be a bottleneck...

Definitely - how are they at Park open vs. later and do they need staffed with a CM to guide the technology challenged. As more and more come on-line, how the kiosks are managed and distributed will be interesting to watch.
