Welcome aboard LuvtheEars, My DD is 9 now and DS will be 5 in a few weeks, we hope to get a kids "meet" online before the cruise!

I would love to contribute to the lanyards and would like to take someone up on a Fish Extender, I am sewing challenged:rolleyes1

I love planning...this is so much fun

I had the same problem. So....I rented him a tux...it was 100 dollars and then when formal night happened....he was very glad to have it onboard. We had the very best family pictures it was so awesome. He thanked me.:rotfl2: I tricked him good.

I was thinking about doing the same thing. I think it might be easier than finding a suit that he would never wear again. Do very many men wear Tuxes?

Unfortunately DH thinks he would have a better time in a beer joint. Honestly I thought he was going to pass out when I told him that he was going to have to dress up for formal night. He is a software engineer and thinks dressing up is putting on a clean t-shirt. Good thing we have 15 months to work on that.:scared1:

My DH, Jason, is software engineer, too....and he's not used to having to put on clothes that are even remotely presentable (although I force him to when he goes to work....but he's the only one in his office who does!). He hates dressing up, too, but on the ship we are always well dressed and have a different Disney tie for dinner EVERY NIGHT! :thumbsup2

There were a number of men that wore tuxes on our cruise. We had such a wonderful time and the suit was in the room when we arrived. It was only 100 and I really loved how wonderful he looked in it. :goodvibes

No not all the men, do...but I'd say most do. Jason and I rented tuxes on the repo and it was fine. We are probably going to buy tuxes before the Double Dip, though, because at just over $100 a piece we'd only have to take two cruises before we've spent as much renting as we would owning....and since we cruise generally at least every 16 months...and maybe more frequently...we figured it's a better investment to just go ahead and buy tuxes so we have them even if we only ever wear them on cruises.

My DS will be 8 on the cruise and I think he will love the idea of getting to know other kids before the cruise.

Let me know how I can help with your Fish Extender. I'm not sure how to send a PM.

OK - Who did you rent from? In the room already. Is there a link I can get to for more information? I think I might just suprise DH with this also. I wonder if I should look for one for my DS too? Although he is a lot better about dressing up than his Daddy.

Dressing for dinner is going to be interesting! I'm going to have to find some Disney ties for him. I'm glad the DCL is very clear about what is allowed at dinner. I'm hoping he will not get sent back to the state room to change. :sad2:

Took half an hour off and look at all those posts:)

rkandmjsmommy you are on the lanyard list!

Tuxedos--well, I for one LOVE men in tuxes. On our previous double dip we did notice that more people tend to really dress than on the standard 7 nighters (we chalked it up to the high percentage of repeat cruisers but may have just been luck of the draw) David owns a tux with tail coat that he will be in. I am hoping Rio (my DS who is 8 now but will be 9 on the cruise) will still fit his tux by this cruise. I wil probably break dwn and gethim another if he cannot fit this one. He looks GOOD in it and likes to dress up.

Kids group--on our last thread someone set up a invite only google group just for the kids on the sailing. It was really nice for the kids. Maybe someone on this thread knows how to do that and wants to take the project on? hint hint.

Thank you!

I am a planner and was told that planning for a Disney Cruise was not as much work as planning a trip to WDW. I felt lost and confused to hear this, but I am better now that I found you guys!

I will have to work on my signature and those great door decorations! Where do I start?

Welcome, and as overwhelming as it might be to start planning the trip, it is also the MOST fun! A great book that many of us started with is called PassPorter's Field Guide to the Disney Cruise Line. You can get it at any Borders or Barnes and Noble, or online. Also, you already got the answer, but yes MANY men wear tuxes. Personally Rob and I love dressing up. Like Erik mentioned, we also rented for a couple of cruises, but with the frequency we plan to cruise, we just bought some before the last one since we will clearly get use out of them rather than paying $100 every time to rent. You can rent them through Cruiselineformal.com, although you probably don't need to start looking just yet at that.

Yes, Secret Mickey was fun. A $20 limit was a good idea, and it was fun because it could present itself at any time during the trip. I know Rob gave his to Cupcake in the middle of Karaoke one night in Rockin Bar D, and I gave mine to Hadley when I knew she was in the cabin. I leaned it against her door, knocked, then hid around the corner. (Sorry if it was too early in the morning for you though Hadley!)

As for organizing Secret Mickey--I didn't realize Cupcake had a bit of difficulty with it. Let's wait a year, see what happens, and we can bring it up again to see if someone would like to volunteer. No worries at this point.

I don't know if I was supposed to email anyone, I probably have confused some posts with others. Yes, put us on the lanyard list and we also have a Fish Extender.

In my handy dandy database, I've noted that Denise (rkandmjsmommy) mentioned she would be happy to pull this Pre-Cruise Kids' Meet together as we get closer to the cruise date. :)

I belive Chris and Robert's Fish extender matches ours. That is because the same crafty angel made them both for us lucky ducks. And Chris, thanks for confirming that I should add you to the lanyard list--you're on it now:thumbsup2

Go Kimberly with the data base:woohoo: Denise, whenver you want to set something up let me know. Marika would start posting now and again even at this early date if it were there (and it would be a good place for her to catch up with Hoagie Pie's daughter too). Which is NOT to say you need to deal with it now (or even this year)--just letting you know "if you build it they will come."

WHERE DID YOU GET A DISNEY TIE????? I want one.!!!

"A" Disney tie? MUWAHAHAHAHAHA :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Oh my dear......we were on a 14 night cruise...and Jason and I both wore a Disney tie to dinner every night (except for Tropical night and Pirate night)....and the same tie never appeared twice (with the exception of the one night when we wore the matching Tinkerbell ties that I made myself so we'd have a matching pair). So we actually wore TWENTY-FOUR Disney ties...and had 3 others with us that didn't "make the cut" :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: (And only 4 of them were Mickey ties....we found ties with all kinds of films and characters represented).

I had set out with the plan that wearing disney ties to dinner every night would be a fun and festive way to both dress up and to celebrate our favorite way to vacation....WITH DISNEY!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes And the fun thing is that when I actually BOOKED that cruise...we owned one mickey tie and one tigger tie...so i spent the better part of a year hunting down ties...and even MAKING some ties. It was fabulous!! You'll have to ask some of my fellow TransAtlantic cruisers but I like to think Jason and I's ties were a highlight of our dinner table each evening! :lmao: :lmao:

....but never fear....Jason and I have decided that we have officially started a tradition for ourselves and the Disney tie collection will be taking every cruise we do...so some of those ties will be appearing for an encore performance during the Double Dip...and we've already starting looking out for other new ties we can bring, too.....we wouldn't want our "old" DIS friends to get bored with our dinner wardrobe, now!!! :rotfl:

And their ties coordianted with one another every single night!!! But only the custom Tink ties were exactly alike. It was so fun. Yes, I had to stop by their table each and every evening to check out the ties.

Welcome to the dis and the cruise LuvtheEars :wave2:

I'm getting so excited for this cruise I wish we were all going this September already!!

Hi, Disney uses Cruise Line Formal. My Tux was in the room waiting for me and it fit well and looked great. I don't think there's any price difference between booking it with DCL or directly.

Sorry - my family (well the guys) do not dress up - just a tie on formal night (and I am lucky to get that! We girls dress up and love it.

On another note, this is the hardest thread to keep up with. Evertime I check, several new pages to read through!!! WOW

How funny!! Chris (Scoobypop) and I were just emailing back and forth and saying how EASY it was to keep up with this thread because the posting is at a more reasonable rate. I swear in the 2 months right before the repo cruise....you could leave the screen for just 2 hours and you'd come back to 8 or 10 PAGES of posts.....and god forbid you go away for a whole weekend...you'd NEVER catch up!! For a time there we all thought we were gonna have to ask for DISBoard leave (very similar to maternity leave I'm told! :lmao: :lmao: ) from our jobs so that we didn't fall too far behind!!
