Hello!!!

What do I do? I'm an Occupational Therapist at the rehab hospital connected to ORMC, which is Orlando's only level 1 trauma center. I'm sure Grandma4ever is about the only person who knows what an OT is ;)
.

I work on a med/surg floor and we get a lot of ortho patients, so most are ordered PT/OT, so I also know what it is;)

Hello!!!

I'm sitting at Starbucks drinking the biggest gingerbread latte that they would make me. I'm SUPPOSED to be writing.......but I'm taking a little DIS break.

What do I do? I'm an Occupational Therapist at the rehab hospital connected to ORMC, which is Orlando's only level 1 trauma center. I'm sure Grandma4ever is about the only person who knows what an OT is ;) In a nutshell, I teach people how to do their basic living skills again, the things most people take for granted. Like putting on a shirt or shoes. Or learning to cook from a wheelchair. Or relearning fine motor skills so they can hold a fork and eat without help. That's what I do Monday through Friday.

On the weekends, I write. I'm a wanna-be writer, so I work on articles and projects and am currently participating in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) - my goal is 50,000 words by the end of November. I have about 36,000 right now. Crunch time!

I would love, love LOVE to earn a living as a full-time writer, but it takes so much patience and energy that I know it will be a long time before such a wonderful thing could happen. But it's a nice dream......might be something to do when my body wears out from picking up spinal cord patients all day!

Lionel is a teacher at Full Sail, which is a local tech school turned college. He teaches the students how to use web publishing and design programs for their projects. He fixes my computer when I mess it up ;)

Is everyone getting in the Christmas spirit yet? We bought our first present today, finally.....and more lights for the house. One day we might have time to put them up! Going to the Candlelight Processional at Epcot tomorrow night, that should help boost my holiday spirit. :thumbsup2

I'm babbling, which means I am avoiding my book. :rolleyes1 Back to work.

Does it count if I watch TV & know what an OT is? :)

We went yesterday to see Enchanted and really enjoyed it. it is very cute and there are some very funny parts as well. Really good for raising the Spirits.

Happy Holidays to all. Lois
:lmao: :thumbsup2
The movie was VERY cute. Disney's laugh at Disney and we joined in at many parts.. The princess stops singing and there is a NEW chipmunck ..

Hi all just dropping by..

Hope you all had a great holiday!

I made a huge contribution to the US economy on Black Friday as well as today. I did very well with lots of true bargains as well as many uses of coupons!! Today, The Disney Store had quite a bit on sale at 25% and 40% off, btw.

So I was at Hobby Lobby today to get an accessory for a Christmas gift project. I passed the Thanksgiving and fall items that were 80% off...then the Christmas ceramics that were 50% off...then the Valentine's merchandise. :scared1: Yes. Valentine's Day decorations before we're even sick of eating the Thanksgiving turkey leftovers! I literally had to turn around to ensure my eyes were not tricking me!!

Anyone have any good holiday stories to share that evolved over the past few days? Our's was quite and uneventful. How did your first Thanksgiving hosting go Heather?

There is one very memorable Thanksgiving from my childhood, however. My mom was hosting Thanksgiving dinner for several of my dad's siblings and their families. This itself was non-traditional as we always went to my mom's family Thankgsiving dinner at Grandmother's house. So, keep in mind she had "the in-laws" over. We were sitting at the large dining room table....a whole turkey all nicely toasted brown sitting in the middle of the table as if it were a view from Martha Stewart Living. We were about to say a prayer, but we had an unexpected visitor that showed up. Suddenly, a bird flew through the living room into the dining room. Where did it land? Well, let's just say birds eat birds. :rotfl2: It turned out that a bird had gotten in our attic, and the entrance in the ceiling to the attic had been left open. Needless to say, there was no turkey for us that year!

LOL.. that's what I call myself too. It's much more then "just" staying at home. Very tiring, yet rewarding.

Great Question!

I'm a Domestic Engineer. Also a chef, seamstress, teacher, mediator, cleaning service, entertainment organizer, chauffeur, nurse, hair stylist, housekeeper, gardener, toy mender, landry service, banker, sleuth...

Pretty much "just" a stay at home mom. :rotfl:

Kudos to those of you who work AND get everything around the house done! I could never get it all finished :)

I thought I wanted to be an RN, that's why I am going to school. It's just taking forever with 2 small kids. I would love to work in maternity, ultrasound or NICU.. not sure if I could do the NICU though.

Thanks everybody for answering my question. Sounds like everybody has interesting jobs.

Sorry for all the posts. I will stop for now. LOL

I am a registered nurse on a med/surg floor, graduated nursing school in May 2006, and I worked the past 2 nights hence the reason I saw NO ADS LOL
Dh is a data center supervisor for Marshall's. Unfortunatly we work oppostie schedules:(

Do you go to Walmart for the merchandising? I can't stand the back room... aughh. It's a nightmare at my store. :confused3

I have to go back there to get my shipment. It's crowded, but not too bad. The worst backrooms are Dollar General. I do some mystery shopping too, but I really don't like that as well.
I, too, am homeschooling. I homeschooled all 5 of my kids and now I have a DGD who is now in kindergarten. I just love ABeka Books for phonics and reading. She's already reading sentences and she's only 5.
My husband is a pastor and he's home most of the time, so I can get away to merchandise. Our church was flooded in July, so he has no office to go to.
Right now I'm busy packing. We're going to WDW and then on a cruise and then some more WDW in December. I'm not decorating for Christmas, we'll get our decorations fix at the World. We leave in a week and I am so excited.

I know I'm late for the party, but I do IT from home for a major bank. I do the paper pushing for the software that runs websites. I support about 10 different types of computers, which is the interesting part to me. *wave*

Hubby does project management and computer security for a huge engineering company.

Well, we survived Thanksgiving at the in-laws! :thumbsup2 Kiddo was thoroughly spoiled (like she's supposed to be), and the travelling wasn't too bad. We left out too stinkin' early each day, though, so we're recovering today.

Oh, and googles111, you aren't posting too much--no worries! :rotfl: I don't think "posting too much" is possible on this thread!

Just checking in after the holiday rush. I was one of the crazies out on Black friday also. Got 90% of my shopping completed! Saved a butt load and even got money back to spend at the stores we shopped at. So that will help with the other 10% lol.

To answer the question of occupations, E is a Marine his MOS (job) is wire communications so he sets up all the wiring for computers, phones etc so that planes can talk to the ground, and they can call over to different units. So he can install a new wire in my house if I want but If I need my computer to be fixed I should have married a DATA guy LOL

and ME, Im an admin for a workers comp business... basically if you get hurt at your job. Your insurance for that company will call me to order us to subpoena all your medical records to either pay the bills (or figure out if your faking and just abusing the system... sadly we see man that are abusers that ruin it for those that really need the help and are truly hurt!)

And now Im back off need to get the boys some food. I have to say it was so nice when they were gone to Texas for the last 2weeks and I was home alone :scared1: lol. But now that vacation is over and back to the "real" world.

OH 1 more thing. I ordered from CafePress. My order went through, then like some I got an email that it may be held for copyright issues... then a few days later I got it in the mail. LOL It looks great... My only issue with them is they burnt E's shirt so I need to send it back. I got an XL cuz I remember Kim saying they ran small but his is HUGE.. wonder if I can get it in a L instead.... AND dumby me I got the boys 3/4 sleeve shirts (like under shirts that baseball players wear and then thought OH crap its going to be so hot in FL when they wear them.. oh well right. Live and learn!

I knew what OT was.....all through college I worked every summer at a camp for kids with different physical challenges. We had lots of kids with a very wide array of issues ranging from being blind or Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing to kids who were in wheelchairs or used braces & crutches...or some combination of all of those. PT and OT (physical and occupational therapy) were a very big part of our campers' lives. I specifically was camp counselor and interpreter with the Deaf kids (I've signed fluently for most all of my life and originally went to college, actually, to go into Deaf Education...so I have a degree in that...but after a year of student teaching and then a year of teaching I decided that public school education was not the world for me!

i don't suppose you would like to make a quick trip up here to ontario, canada, my daughter is learning some christmas songs in sign language for her church and we could use some extra lessons.
today we went window shopping to get some ideas for christmas and my dd told me nobody needed any windows lol:rotfl:

It took me 5 years to get a 2 year degree, Matthew was 10 weeks when I started Rachel was 3&1/2, it was LONG road, you can do it

Oops, missed the what do you do for a living question!

I worked as a Medical Technologist for 30+ years. Way too long! I sort of gave up on the field 2 years ago this coming Feb. I now do volunteer work for 3 different areas: an organization that helps families that are about to become homeless. I do database stuff (easy things) and help with one of the families. And a cat shelter. Poor kitties. I clean their areas and love on them. And I help out with an ESL class. Those ESL ladies are a hoot to work with. I just love doing that.

My husband is a software engineer. He works for a very large software company. Yeah, you probably guess which one.

I do...my SIL is an OT out in the Pittsburgh, PA area. That's a VERY important job!

That's actually how I met Drea. Our husbands were in the Marine Corps together :) I miss it!

Oh man, back to reality with the boys again huh? At least you had a little break.

Oh and what did you order from Cafepress? Do you have the link?

I took an ASL class and loved it! I learned a lot of things that I didn't even think of. It's been a couple of years, so now I can't remember much. I didn't think I would like it, but it was so interesting. There is a deaf lady I see sometimes when I doing merchandising and I always want to go up and start a conversation, but I can't remember much.. just bad words..lol Okay, that's bad! I have signed to her a couple of times, but she goes fast and I have to end up writing and saying what are you talking about.. lol

Oh and Denise, thank you for the encourgaging words. I am going to keep going to college. I only have a couple more classes for an AA, so I am almost there! :)

YOU CAN DO IT Tonya, I have an AA and hopefully will be starting back for my bachelors in Sept:) Both kids will be in school full day:banana: If you have any questions feel free to PM me

That's so awesome that so many of you guys know what OT is! Usually I face the standard questions.....

"Is that like on the job training?"

or my personal favorite,

"So you can tell me what occupation I should do?"

:sad2:

I love this informed crowd! :woohoo:

Speaking of holiday shopping, we managed to get a start on ours though not on Black Friday. I can't deal with the crazy crowds. We did, however, get my mom a few lovely things from Epcot last night when we went to see the Candlelight Processional. My Dad's school was singing in it, so we met him and my stepmother there as well. It was a lovely, lovely night.
