"Double Dip Delight" 09.27.2008 - Take 3!

I have read a a few pages to get caught up. I cannot beleive how close the cruise it.

I am so excited I found a formal dress Yeah and it was only 60 even better. Now I have to get something for Zozo. No luck at the mall I am thinking ebay is my best bet.

What do you ask for in your kids gift baskest from Perfect gift? What are the options?

This is the first time I have heard of wristbands for the kids' clubs. Are the kids expected to keep the wristband on for the whole week? My kids don't like wristbands, especially when going to bed. If they were to "fall off" every evening, would we be able to get new ones the next day?

They won't fall off...they are that very durable plastic. They have to be cut off. Like everyone said, YES you can get a new one daily but you might not want to do that.
On our last cruise we saw many folks having to get new wristbands each time they came to the club...what a pain!:headache: Not only does it take a few minutes to do and really backs up the check in line a the club, hte "replacement" bands are not durable and are handwritten. So you can imagine how loooooooooonnnnng it takes the staff to go through all the verifying and then writing up the bands, etc. One time we were dropping, had Palo res and did not want to be late...behind THREE families, yes THREE all of them with more than one kid all getting new wristbands. It took 20 minutes.
I can sympathize as I don't like "stuff" on me either...our kids got used to the bands and then forgot they were there.

On an unrelated topic, can anyone help me out with details on the size of the room service chocolate chip cookies? For a bedtime snack should I order one per person, two per person, or two persons per cookie? And can I get milk with that?

I am the party pooper around here...I think the cookies are waaaaay overrated. They aren't bad or anything...just not as awesome as their reputation may imply. (Meaning the hype may make expectation unrealistic). They are at least 3 inches across and at least 1/2 inch thick. Ours came cool (as if out of the fridge). :confused3 I'm sure I'll get flamed for this but I prefer a fresh baked toll house anyday...

(not that I won't eat any..I'm sure we will! )

I believe the wristbands have like a scan type bar/chip thing in them for when the kids are signed in and out etc. (Never seen one personally just seen pics and they look larger then just a kind you would get at a fair or amusment partk) If they are lost there might be a charge..... can anyone clairfy that one.

No..they do not have the electronic chips anymore..just plain 'ol plastic. No charge for lost ones.

Diane your FE's look great...I don't see the boo boo at all!:thumbsup2

Hey just 'cause i don't post much doesn't mean i don't read the boards. I have a tan....from last cruise... *snicker*

Well, I had to say SOMETHING to get you out of hiding! :rotfl:

Great pics Kimberly.

I am happy to announce that I was finally able to find Ginger Chews at World Market today
Just thought I would let you know, because I am sure you were all losing sleep over it :rotfl:

:woohoo:

Hello Everyone,
I have been lurking around for a while. You guys are so funny. I can tell this is going to be a great cruise!
I know that this is kind of random, but I have to ask. As one who will never in my lifetime be able to afford to stay in a cat 1 cabin, I am dying to see the inside of one of these 2 suites. Is anyone staying in one of these 2 suites who might give DH, DD and me a quick tour of the suite on our upcoming cruise? We'd love to see how the other half lives!

Hi there! I don't think any of us are booked in a 1 or 2......unless someone is keeping very quiet about it! That would be the PERFECT party cabin! DIS meet in the Walt Suite!!!!! :upsidedow

Lionel and I are looking forward to the SYTYCD finale last night. In fact, my mom just called to talk about it! :rotfl: I have no idea who America is going to pick, but we voted for Josh and Katee. :thumbsup2

Hi all. Just a quick catch up.

we will be one of the families who aren't super dressed up for formal night. I hate dresses but I will (grudgingly) wear a skirt & top for formal/semi formal night. My DH & DS will be in nice pants & shirts. Now my DD will be the best dressed out of all of us. She is thinking of wearing the dress she wore as a flower girl in April (if it still fits  ). Luckily it is very light so we shouldn't have too much trouble packing it.

Erik - thanks for setting up the message centres :thumbsup2 .

Hadley -sorry to hear that your summer visitor isn't coming. I think it's a good decision though, if there is the possibility he could get sick.

Diana - love the FE. You will be our message centre too. I think we will be around your cabin a lot as my DD & your oldest DGD are in touch. Glad to hear DGD's cake made it to her in one piece :lmao:.

I.Am.Freaking.Out.

I finally organized myself enough to make a list of what I need to sew for the cruise... and I have a list of FORTY-SEVEN garments to make. :faint: Granted, most of those are elastic-waist shorts/capris/cropped pants that don't take too much time and effort, but still... YIKES!!! Methinks I might have been a bit ambitious. :rolleyes1 And how is it possible that I booked this cruise SIX HUNDED AND FIVE DAYS out, but now that I'm leaving in less than fifty days I'm rushing around like crazy to get everything done??? :sad2: I haven't even started to think about things like door decorations, FE/SM gifts, prepping a box to ship ahead... :scared1:

Please tell me I'm not the only one inexcusably lagging behind in the trip preparation department...

LOL!!! I think that I started out lagging behind ...... :confused3

No you are not the only one. Everything I plan to sew (much less than you are thank goodness) is still not begun (I bought the fabric for Rio's costume for MNSSHP--does that count for something?;) ). We just did FE gifts today and ONLY becuase it was something the kids could do and kept them busy on the fourth rainy day this week:rotfl:
I always figure the extra panic now makes the vacation seem that much more relaxing by comparison next month:rotfl:

I keep looking at the clock to make sure I don't miss it!!!!! :)

Anybody excited for the Olympics? I personally can't wait! I was at the Olympics in Sydney in 2000 and it was just amazing. :)

Thanks everyone for the nice compliments!

The girls and I designed my FE today......tackling that one early next week.:lmao: :thumbsup2

Diane--Awesome FE! And what a neat idea...having a FE that is reversable. So cute :)
Also Diane--my 14yo step daughter is anti-doll too! She was always about horses, basektball, soccer...NEVER had a doll. I remember for her 4th birthday, a friend gave her a Barbie at her birthday party. My husband's ex was so good at teaching Jessie to be gracious...without even batting an eye, 4 year old Jessie's reply was "Thank you! It's beautiful." Once we got home, of course, they figured out a person who would like it more. Isn't it funny how everyone is wired different?

YEP! She loves animals, especially horses. One year she got a pigmay goat for her birthday. It is black & white and she named him Oreo.

Yes, she told me she has an email pal from the cruise and can't wait to meet her. :flower3:

DOUBLE YIKES   47 things to make.......

Need to sign off....youngest granddaughter wants to play a game before getting ready for bed.

What is the latest on carrying beverages on board.
Last time I checked you had to bring them in your carryon. You could not check them in your luggage...any updates???

The water on the ship is Evian - and last time I checked was $36 (or something like that) for a 24pk :scared1: . They will charge this right to your room as soon as you get on the ship...trust me, you will see crew members on every hall by the elevators (and other places) that you can order this package from on your boarding day. If you don't order it then you can order it from your steward and they will be happy to take care of it for you.

Now, what we've done for our last 3 cruises is to take 2 LARGE black garbage bags, lined the bottom of a small suitcase (25x20) or something similar and stuffed 46-50 12oz. bottles of water in there then we pack all the extra goodies we bought while on vacation (this is also going to be helpful since this is our first time participating in the FE/SM. :woohoo:

We've always checked this suitcase in once we get to the port...never carried it on and we've never had a problem...never. I have not read anywhere that we are unable to bring our own beverages...someone please correct me if I am wrong. :rolleyes1

Maggie--I have read several times (but of course cannot find it now) that Port Canaveral (not DCL itself) changed their rules in the past year and that you may no longer check botteld water nor other liquids beyond basic tolietries and must now carry any beverages on board yourself. However, I have not crusied since reading this so hopefully someone else can confirm (or find where it is written at least)

Oh good! I'm not the only one!! I hear ya about being a woodwind. It's a shame that those like us can't play in TBDBITL (the OSU Marching Band of course!). My boyfriend in college played in the OSU Marching Band...so I got a little taste of the life, but it would have been very cool to have been a part of the band!

DCI had a competition here in Columbus last week that I went to. It didn't have the greatest guards, but it was decent. I enjoy watching it, but I'm not obsessed like my friend Peter is. He so badly wants to be a judge, and I don't doubt that he could be!

Ahh...yes those were the days! I love and appreciate all my HS memories around band. One of the highlights was getting to go to WDW and march in a MK parade! Another was to compete on the artifical turf (at the time) of the OSU Horseshoe. Those were the days! *sigh*

Kimberley-I wanted to go so badly-but no one to go with!

Dan

To all:

Sorry I ahve been absent-been busy with ork and stuff!

Dan

AQW--that's hillarious...you have so much to do, have had your cruise reserved for so many days...and it's only 50ish days until you need it done. :lmao: You are JUST like me! I remember when I was in the 8th grade, and we had a Texas History Fair (like a science fair), I chose to cross stitch a Texas flag. It was about 8x10 size. And I waited until the NIGHT BEFORE it was due. I was in tears, crying all night long as I cross stitched that stupid flag. I ended up doing the last few lines just straight stitches, no cross stitches, because the SUN was coming up! I won a blue ribbon after all that. As a parent, I can't imagine letting my daughter stay up all night to learn that hard lesson. I am soooooo feeling your pain. At least you're not at the dead-end-last-minute crunch yet ;) Now log off & get to work. tee he he

NZMUM--would you be willing to PM with me about a trip to NZ? We are in the beginning stages of planning a family trip to NZ in December (a few years down the road) and it's been hard to know where to begin. We've got two kiddos, so if you would be willing to talk with me I would love you forever

All the talk about formal night...I don't think I"ve chimed in. Actually, we're skipping formal night :3dglasses We're not big on dressing up, & Reese hated the restauraunt rotations (can you believe it?) so we're not doing any seated dinners this trip. Which is fine by me. Less to pack & plan for I guess. I could go either way with dinner rotations....I thought they were novel, but with a young one, who is usually VERY well behaved and patient at restauraunts, the looooong service for dinner was hard. On all of us. I guess, as a family, we don't do long sit down dinners. Jeff still eats like he's in the Army. Takes all of about 5 minutes to inhale dinner. So we'll be doing the various other meal options at dinner times. Odd man out, we are.

That being said though, on formal night last cruise, we hit the Mickey Pool & it was EMPTY!! Reese had glow sticks we brought from home, & one little boy did come swimming and the two of them had the best time, with the pool all to themselves, in the dark, with their glowsticks.

We're bringing glowsticks again....so you'll find US at the Mickey Pool during formal dinner time  With glowsticks to share...

(not that I won't eat any..I'm sure we will! )

I feel the same about the cheese platter, but the kids love it, and the cookies. I think it's because we never order room service anywhere (the only time we stay in places with room service is at Disney and when we went on our China trips), so it's more the room service than the food quality.

We started on some of our shirts and door signs. We tried on some clothes (Pirate costumes, Chinese outfits for semi-formal night, Mad's formal dress, Sadie's formal dress, I'm afraid to try on my gowns:scared1: ). Wow, I'm making more progress than I thought. Yay me!

We start school on the 18th. Anyone else start in August? No break for me though, only the little ones are leaving the house for school to provide a break for me, and speech therapy for Alex.

Julie

We start school on Aug 21st. A week earlier this year. We are done June 3rd and have tons of days off in between. :)

The NH schools start right after Labor Day, but I know my nieces in Colorado start this comming Monday the 11th.

Do you watch Suite Life?? That's one of our fav Disney Channel Shows. Brenda's character on there is so funny.

Emmie starts kindergarten on the 13th - next Wednesday! :scared1: Its only about 1.5 hrs that 1st day, full days starting the 14th. Can't believe its almost here.

Wwweeeelllll.............the suspense is over. A new champion of SYTYCD has been crowned. A bit of a surprise, but not as much as it could have been. Wonder if the way the results were announced was in the order of votes they actually got. The 1st one out got the lowest votes, etc. Ok, back to your regularly scheduled board discussions.......... :happytv:
