Hey look Lois--I am doing a multi quote:woohoo: thanks for the tutorial:thumbsup2
Thanks!!

We are starting school on Monday, but I've not gotten books yet. :confused3 One of those things I guess I need to take time for this week. LOL!! We do have stuff we can start with. I just haven't gotten some other stuff. I'm so glad I don't have to report that kind of stuff to the state. :)

How old are your kids?? I have a Senior this year, an 8th grader (but 7th grade age), and a 3 year old (that's learning to read).

We don't have everything we need yet either. Rio (our DS9) is having some testing with the district in September (he is the first kid being tested this year!) and we will not have the results until after the cruise. I suspect he may have dyslexia or something similar and after years of being told "he'll grow out of it" I am finally managing to get some actual testing done. So, I am not getting much in the reading/writing stuff for him until I know what is going on there and what services he may get through the district. Marika (DD11) is going to try taking English, history and math through an online charter school we recently learned about which starts up mid August, so we are just working science, handwriting, and keyboarding at the moment (we'll add in Spanish later on unless she decides to take that through the online academy also).
Marika is in 7th grade now and Rio is in 5th. But, as many homeschoolers do they are working at totally different levels in different areas.

That's fabulous. So you can say "on our cruise NEXT WEEK" :cool1: I guess you have us all beat:rotfl2: Have a fantastic time.

HEY!!! What about ME???

:rotfl:

Brandie--You are our resident geek (and you know I mean that in the most endearing way:hug: )

I have to be honest that I wanted to SO BADLY make a comment about Erik being our resident fairy, but I didnt want to overstep
:rotfl2: Given that Erik said it about himself, I think we are fine sticking him with it;) At least I am willing to take the chance--he knows I love him:love:

Fish extenders are something hung up from the "fish" outside your cabin.
ours has 5 pockets since there are 5 of us. here is a link to see what they look like
We have 50 cabins participating. Each cabin buys a little gift for the other cabins (stickers, candy, etc etc.) while the others are at dinner, you drop off your little gifts. it is just something fun to do. :)

Oh my!!! How fun is that! Wow.

That door is really decorated. Do many folks do that?

Oh, my. ::::hugs:::: to you and your ds for the testing. I hope that goes well, and I hope they are able to do something to help him.

Hmmmm .... maybe we can introduce Marika and my ds (Jonah - I have all 'J' names for the kids). He's 12. He's my 'friend-seeker'. He tends to find friends in whatever situation he's in.

Thanks All !!
I just spoke with Hubby and he is soooo excited :thumbsup2
He thought for sure we would not get to book this late for next Thursday

We did miss out on the Florida Resident rate for it though :guilty: but at least Hubby can now say he is leaving for a Vacation

I am sure Marika would be happy to meet Jonah. She's pretty out going. Her best friend Abby is sailling with us also (they pretty much only see each other on DCL--it is where they met and Abby lives in Florida). Abby is being homeschooled for the first time this year:thumbsup2 Anyway, Marika is my reader (goes trough 10+ novels in a typical week). She is also very into karate (has an advanced brown belt at this point), is begining to enjoy doing some work both on stage and backstage in theatre, and loves to play all kinds of games.

I am sure things will be good for Rio. He is really excited to be tested finally. He does great in most areas--he just struggles with handwriting (he TRIES and WANTS it to look nice and it still looks exactly like it did when he was 4) an spelling (spells and reads--if out of context--STOP and SPOT or FROM and FORM, etc. interchangeably and can read well but doesn't like it and gets really tired doing it (but will listen to stories or books on tape, etc. for hours and hours). So neither he nor I is worried or stressed about the testing--just glad to finally be getting it:thumbsup2

Seriously?? Jonah was into karate for several years and almost got to his blue belt. My older son, though, has his 2nd degree black belt in Tang Soo Do. Both of my boys are voracious readers. Jonah was just the lead in our church's Children's Musical this spring, and he loves, loves, loves games (and anyone that will play with him!!). Both of my boys take piano. Jared (17 yo) is the keyboard player for our contemporary service in church. He's the only youth allowed to be in that band. He's also the drummer for the youth praise band. He's been taking piano for about 10 years. Jonah has only been taking for 1 1/2 years, though.

That's great!! At least he has a great attitude going into it. I really pray for the best with it.

That is so cool that your son plays for your church's contemporary service. DH & I are both very involved in our contemporary service (DH drums & sings some; I play flute & sing a little). We have some very talented youth in our church, but they just don't want to get up early enough to make it to our service (nor to make it to our practice times) - our service is currently at 8:30, but we're trying to get it moved a little later.

Anyway, kudos to your guys - my hat's off to them. :thumbsup2

BTW, welcome to the boards!!!

Great news Stacy. Say Hi to Andy from us. Bud said to ask Andy to get him an Artist Choice Pin from the cruise if they still have any left.

Our contemporary service is at 9:15. We'd much prefer it take the 10:30 spot, but we have a good group at 9:15. I'm actually surprised that we have as many as we have. The band has to get there at 7 that morning, and that's really early (and one reason that I don't sing in that service....). My son feels very honored to be in that band, so he gets himself up to practice. Oh ..... and his girlfriend's dad is the band leader.....

Thanks!

It sounds like our kids will have a lot in common. None of us has any ability to play an instrument unfortunately:sad2: It is fabulous that your both play. Rio is my serious perfromer. He lives for chances to be on stage. He is a dancer (tap, jazz, ballet and this year adding tumbling--Hey Erik did you see that: Tumbling:thumbsup2 ) and he is responsible for pulling the entire family into (or back into--Dave and I were involved in high school and college) the world of theatre.

Hi All,

Looking for some suggestins on disney type books. I "thought" it might get E and the boys into the spirit. Not that they arent hyped up but well more so LOL.

So looking for suggestions on books, something along the lines of the bio of Walt, or the making of movies, or the ship.... etc. So what do you have in your collection that you LOVE.. or that you would like to have that looks good LOL. As I have no clue where to start.

We're working on (eventually) getting ours moved to 9:30, but I get the feeling it may be a while. We usually start showing up about 7:15-7:30ish to get set up, run through everything before service. Its early, but worth it. Still, to be able to sleep in an extra hour would be great!

Ah, I'm betting that last bit clinched the deal. ;)

Hi, Drea.

Sorry can't help w/this one, my collection consists almost exclusively of sf/fantasy. :) I can recommend some of those if you like, but didn't sound like it fit into what you were looking for.

Yes, it sounds that way.

We have always been in the middle of theater in one way or another. I direct children's choir at church (my older son played for that choir for several years), and we always do a musical in the spring. We had season tickets to Theater of the Stars and the Broadway in Atlanta series at the Fabulous Fox Theater for about 5 years or so. My boys have grown up knowing musicals and theater. :) They definitely have their favorites and their opinions. My oldest loves Phantom. He comes home after seeing it each time playing the music. :) He plays way too well by ear.

I can't wait to see the shows on the ship. It is just an awesome extension to our theater love.

Drea - You may already have this, but the book that we love is about the cruise. It's called 2008 Disney Cruise Line and is by Birnbaum Guides. It's small, but all in color and very informative. It has been great for helping us get even more excited.

FYI - my oldest does PT with the Marines here and is enlisting as soon as I can get his transcript and required papers ready for the recruiter. He's so excited about his future.

Well surely you already have the Passporter. It is the one everyone in this house reads over and over again. If I think of anythign else I'll post it but right now I am drawing a blank on others.

Good luck! I hope that you are able to get that moved. It would be really rough for us if we had ours that early. Our Contemp. service just began in June, so they have extra practice time at the moment.

LOL! Yeah, that didn't hurt. He, actually, was so thrilled to be asked to play for them that nothing would have kept him away from it. It's quite a big deal that they are allowing him to play with them as a youth. Our youth are talented, too, but they are notorious for not having the commitment that they need to have.
