I was a middle school teacher for a year before I found my current profession.....and one of the things I remember was most challenging was that the tight budgets of schools often required that I buy many supplies for my classes myself using my own money (like stuff for bulletin boards, decorations, classroom activities, etc.). I don't know if this is also the case in your school district.....but, if so, then a gift card to a local teacher's supply store would probably be a welcome gift.

With this being a private school its probably even worse. I hadn't thought of that one. I know that they go through ALOT of manipulatives with it being a pre-K class. I think this is what I'll do instead of a basket or in combination with a basket.

Our 3rd one was a .... surprise, too. We refer to her as "proof God has a sense of humor." LOL!! We never expected another one. I was almost 39 when I had her .... and she's a girl! Heck, I had no idea (and still have no idea!!!!) what to do with a girl!!! LOL!!!!
