"Double Dip Delight" 09.27.2008 - Chapter 4!

I'll never catch up with all the chatting you all have done since I went AWOL. Since we were close to not going, I decided to wean myself off the board... But doctor has given the okay to leave the country. No more surgery for Alex at this point, just the scheduled surgery when we get home. His drain is still draining, but they gave us waterproof bags so he can go to the beach and get wet (so the new splash area is Godsend to us), but not submerge in water. However, there's a good chance he'll be all better by the time we leave.

I think the drainage is lessening (of course it could be wishful thinking), so hopefully we'll be drain free in 13 days.

Either way, in two weeks, we'll be in the Magic Kingdom!

Thanks for all your prayers, pixie dust, good thoughts, etc.

Julie

EXTRA prayers and Pixie Dust, Well Wishes for a Super Speedy recovery to Alex.. So glad you will still be maiking it on the ship!! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Julie, I am so glad you got the OK from the DR. and everything is OK. We will continue to pray that the draining is all done before you leave! If you need anything we are all here for you........that's what a DIS family is for right?

If there is anything I can do for you, please don't hesitate to ask! I'm not that far away!

When is your flight? I think I remember you saying that you are flying Southwest, right?
Crissi
Thanks all! Good to be back. I'm EXHAUSTED. With the constantly changing clothes, sheets, towels, etc (because he was soaking through dressings twice a night and freezing), then worrying about the trip, I got maybe three hours a sleep a night since Friday. Plus- the minivan's power steering blew last week, and I just today got to take it in. Been driving a tiny little Ford Focus that can't fit everyone at once. We're like a calamity family.

Being so paranoid (due to husband's job), I'm pming flight details.

Now, I have to pack, buy shoes for the kids, and make all the final arrangements to get to port at 10:00 with the rest of y'all. First in line should get Tea for everyone!

Julie

I am HOPING but, not a very positive attitude, to get a reservation or High Tea at Palo.. and now that we don't have the party room, I doubt we will even get a dinner at Palos either for 9 adults at once.. :sad1: We even offered to pay for the extra 2 or 3 chairs to get the room :guilty:

thats a bummer!! what time is dinner? we can join you. :lmao:

Julie, so very glad you'll be able to make it after all. & most important that Alex is doing better.   Bless your heart, you've been through a lot lately. & now w/the power steering going......oi ve! Here's praying things will start going a bit smoother very soon.

As far as the shots go, we did have to get Hep A&B & tetanus when we went to China in '04. The combo Hep A&B is called Twinrix - my company makes that one.

Well, in my Faxed request we originally had 11 adults and was told Yes, the room would be ours.. Then due to College Professors, 2 people had to cancel their reservations with us.. Then came the we are sorry but 9 people doesn't qualify so the room will not be ours :sad1:

We requested either Thursday or Friday at 6pm as first choice.. Sunday or Monday at 6pm as second choice, and the 3rd choice was Tuesday or Wednesday at 8:45

So now we will need to see if there is any way possible to get 9 adults a dinner in Palos for the same day and time.. but.. it does NOT look promising..

I am sooo Bummed :guilty:

We got all the shots mentioned to go to China, and I think I got one other to go to Kazakhstan, or it might have been the second hep A. Our pediatrician never mentioned shots for Mexico since we weren't really staying, just going to be ashore for a day. We took a lot of insect repellent, but forgot to use it.

Julie

Also, there are no page numbers :confused3 but should you pick one up and try to find me, my story is approximately halfway through the book and is titled "The Day Rowan Flew Away"

Oh, and for those of you who would prefer a summary of the story instead of buying the book, he came back ;)

Short and Sweet!!!! :rotfl:

Julie - so glad to hear that you will be able to make it with us. Again, prayers and :grouphug: for little Alex and hoping that he is getting better and better each day!

There was a post on the main board about calling to find out what movies will be showing.

Here are the movies for our cruise:

College Road Trip
Enchanted
National Treasure 2
Swing vote
Wall E

Possibly Miracle at Santa Ana

YEAHHHH!!!!!! so glad to hear he is doing better! We missed you! Ill keep ya all in my thoughts that he keeps on the good road to recovery! :cool1:

Just wanted to drop in a send a big THANK-YOU out to everyone who wished my good luck on my knee surgery:grouphug:

Everything went fine and now just getting around with the cruthches is my biggest battle:sick:

Sooooooo glad that you are doing well. We've been praying for you and wishing you an easy recovery.

Does anyone know for a fact if we can bring our rolling coolers on board....We plan on making a stop to purchase some wine on the way to the port and my one friend said she heard no coolers:confused3

It's my understand that NO coolers are allowed unless they are for medical supplies, baby food, etc.

It's friggin 44 degrees right now.

I was in shorts on the weekend!!!!

Gotta love Chicago weather in Sept.

Expecting snow flurries in October as usual

Yikes. Not here. It was another HOT day in Georgia.

I hear ya...it's 48 here. BRRRRRR. I left windows open overnight. I was freezing :cold: when I woke up. It will be back up to 82 today.

The snow has to start somewhere, so you can take the trophy as far as I'm concerned.

Snow??? I will take it. I LOVE snow. But ..... we don't get very much here. :(

Sorry I skimmed through this and did a double take since I did not know exactly what ya'll were speaking of waxing.....

(Your honorary Fat Cat moment of the day broght to you today by nenner1. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming)

ROTFL!!!!!! Unfortunately .... I had to do the SAME thing. Wow. What does that mean? Yikes.

Here's what was on the first package I pulled out of the box, exactly as I saw it...no kidding!

Is it just me, or can I say maybe Kellogg's should have chosen a different hat for that character? :confused3 :rotfl2:

Oh my gosh!!!! That's too funny. I can tell you that my family got quite a laugh out of that one.

SNOW??? oh yeah..that's the white stuff I've heard tell falls from the sky. *Sigh* that would be nice now and then.

Yeah .... I hear ya on that.

Hi,
This has probably been addressed somewhere but I can't keep up with this board. Has anyone gotten shots since we are going to Mexico? I called the local health dept today and they recommended Hep A, Hep B, Typhoid. I was going to get a tetanus and called for that and they recommended all the others. Thoughts or comments?????????????? :confused3

Yeah...the Hep A vaccine is 2 shots 6 months apart and the Hep B Vaccine is 3 shots in a series spanning six months. There is a combo vaccine available the vaccinates against both...but regardless...if you're not already vaccinated then it's too late to do it before htis cruise with any real efficacy.

Oh my. Wow. I didn't even think about this, but I have been to the doctor twice since we decided to cruise. He didn't mention anything about getting shots. Of course, we booked late, so we may have missed the window of opportunity completely. Man. Now, I'm going to be paranoid.

I had planned to not tag our FE gifts, but then found a cute picture so I made tags. Then I was just going to attach tags to the gifts but not really assign anything...just sort of choose as we go along.

But then I started looking over the list, & thinking of things that some people have commented, and I ended up tagging & room-labeling all the FE gifts! I don't think they will fit in the suitcase as neatly as before (because now they have tags & none are exactly the same!), so I think we'll pack an extra small bag for the FE gifts. I'm so excited to pass them out now! Not that I wasn't before, but now that I've thought out who is getting what, it made me all that much more excited :hippie:

I'm excited, too!!!!! I think I'm going to have a separate bag for FE stuff, too. I don't think I'm going to have much choice.

I am SO glad things are going ok for you guys, Julie. I was so worried about you and Alex. I breathed a sigh of grand relief when I saw that you were going to get to go after all. Woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so, so glad. (can ya tell that I'm glad? :) )

I'm thinking Beverly Hills Chihuahua will be on our cruise also starting Oct 3 (the day it opens in the States).

The coolers/no coolers issue has been discussed many times on the main boards. It doesn't appear to have been an issue for anyone to bring a cooler, rolling or otherwise, onboard as long as it fits through the security scanners.

Don't stress about the shots. You shouldn't really have need of them as long as the precautions mentioned earlier are followed, you don't go 'inland' in Mexico & don't stay that long. Now if our itenerary had stayed the same - Costa Maya, I think shots would be in order for those touring the ruins that are way far inland. But we aren't going there afterall..........

MagicMe will be excited that Wall E should be playing because she wants to see it!

The only movie I haven't seen on that list is Swing Vote and of course Miracle at Santa Ana. Guess they aren't going to premiere Beverly Hills Chihuahua, it comes out on the third. Excited about the movies though, I LOVE Enchanted...it's such a classic Disney movie and I know Walt would have loved it!

Julie, I'm so glad that things are getting better with Alex. Sending some good thoughts and prayers your way.

My mom and I are working on my FE...well, mostly my mom since she's the sewer. Well, I actually sewed the one pocket tonight! I am so proud of myself...I'm going to make it Dave's pocket since I made it. :lovestruc

Down to 7 days of work only before vacation! Yay!!!

It should still be shown - just not until the 3rd. That's been done before on other cruises. The movie started showing at 12:01AM on the day it premiered. I may call DCL tomorrow to confirm about BHC.

Got it. I was going by my Passporter's book, I think. It doesn't really affect me, but I noticed it for some reason.

Ok. We're just doing the dolphin thing there. Now, though, I will refuse to let anyone in my family even LOOK at food or drinking water. :confused3

**cough** Post 1 **cough

Thank you!!

Glad you had a nice family moment! :rotfl:

ROTFL!!!!! Yes, thank you very much! We enjoyed it. :) :lmao:

Thanks! That would be great!

I was looking through my Photobucket pictures and I found this one that I thought you guys might like. I have this fear of birds and pigeons so this is quite appropriate for me! LOL!!!!

We just had a freaky car accident. We were backing out of a parking space in a lot in Manalapan NJ and the front bumper caught on the stand alone concrete on the ground and pulled off the entire front bumper of our 2000 Nissan Altima. Scared the H__L out of us. No one was hurt, but we filed a police report, and we had to tie up the bumper so we could get the car home.
Aunt Michele & Uncle Bud
Update:
Took the car in for an estimate today. Not as bad as I thought. The bumper was not damaged, only the PLASTIC clips that hold on the bumper. Total estimate $197.00, and we have a $100 deductible.
I'm going to process it thru insurance, we have NJ Manufacturers and they do not surcharge for accidents. They called it an incident, not an accident.

ROTFL!!!! I need to show that to my oldest ds. He got attacked by the crows at the little McDonald's place in MK one day. He was taking fries to our table and the birds attacked. We laughed ...... but he didn't. :confused3
