Looking for confirmation.

Port Canaveral rules now state that liquid beverages must be brought aboard in carry on luggage only.

I understand in the past we were able to check these items at the Port but apparently this is not allowed now.

Hi, Chris.

I've read on the main boards that folks have been able to get stuff on board in their checked luggage, but that DCL is really wanting folks to bring it as carry on instead.

Hi,
This has probably been addressed somewhere but I can't keep up with this board. Has anyone gotten shots since we are going to Mexico? I called the local health dept today and they recommended Hep A, Hep B, Typhoid. I was going to get a tetanus and called for that and they recommended all the others. Thoughts or comments?????????????? :confused3

Some of my friends have said no it's not needed so I don't know what to do. The health dept. recommended getting them at least 2 weeks prior and that is this coming Sat. I thought I might go tomorrow on my day off and was looking for advice. Figured I could get plenty here. :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Thanks in advance.

You know..haven't even considered shots. My boss has gone to Mexico several times on vacations, I'll ask her when she gets out of her meeting.

dh travels to Mexico all the time, no shots required, just dont drink the water!! :) the one place they recommend some shots are China because of the open sewage and Africa etc.

So with the beverages...a carry on now, can it be a soft sided cooler on wheels? or a true carry on suitcase.
thanks!!

Ok..A) I'm not a guy...and B) at 5 in the morning I didn't even think of another type of waxing....now that you mention it though I should go back and edit that post ;)

LOL......:lmao: , I know you're not a guy....seriously, I think the 'elliott's_mommy' gave it away....I was sending that as a general FYI to all the men...seriously though...that really did crack me up!:rotfl2:

When we went to Mexico on our last DC, we did get shots - esp. for the 'little' guy...just to be safe. Everything was fine, but seriously, we didn't want to take ANY chances....

Is anyone planning on having groceries delivered to their Hotel? We aren't going to have a car and I have read that it can be cheaper to have groceries delivered rather than paying for a taxi both ways. I have read good things about wegoshop.com. Anyone have any experience with grocery/liquor delivery?

Looking at the CDC website, those 3 shots (Heps are a series of shots, actually) are the Summer 2008 blanket statement for anyone traveling to a developing country. Here's the page for Mexico.

You're actually past the deadline for coverage. You needed to get shots 4-6 weeks out.

As for malaria... Seeing we're pulling out of port prior to nightfall, we don't need to worry about the female mosquitoes who carry the Mexican strain of malaria.

Hep A: I recommend to anyone.

Hep B: Don't share needles, don't hook up while in port, and don't get in a car accident while traveling.

Typhoid: Open your own water bottles, don't get drinks with ice, and eat on the boat, if you're worried about it. This shot SUCKS. I was sore for a good 2 weeks, and moving my arm up HURT. I think that evil nurse shot me in the ball and socket joint, but I still remember I got that shot in my left arm.

Hope that helps!!! I got those shots (among others  ) to go to India for a month.

I use wegoshop all the time.

Yep...after the 2nd cup of tea I looked back at it and had to smile myself. :thumbsup2

Yeah...the Hep A vaccine is 2 shots 6 months apart and the Hep B Vaccine is 3 shots in a series spanning six months. There is a combo vaccine available the vaccinates against both...but regardless...if you're not already vaccinated then it's too late to do it before htis cruise with any real efficacy.

Also re: Fizzgig's fabulous Hep tips....

....she's right a Hep A vaccine is a very good thing (that was very Martha Stewart of me)...but if you're not vaccinated then don't drink water that you think might be contaminated, don't eat food that has been handled without gloves, wash your hands after using hte bathroom and touching a toilet of any kind...and avoid contact with other people's er....um...."doody"? (I wanted to make sure I thought of a word that didn't get bleeped! :rotfl: )

....Hep B....she forgot to mention not to touch anything that looks like a body fluid, even dried body fluid (inlcuding blood)...including in public restrooms. The Hep B virus can live for up to two weeks outside the human body in dried fluids.

(and also....needles CAN transmit Hep B----but are usually more linked to Hep C infection---and there's no cure OR vaccine for that one...so Fizz is right...DON"T SHARE NEEDLES!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 )

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Can you tell what I do for a living?!?!;) :lmao:

:rotfl: Yeah, I couldn't figure out how to say certain things, so I just linked to the page. :rotfl: Hep A is a good thing to have in your back pocket, even here in the US. You could get Hep A just from eating out.

Make sure to open your own bottles of water. :thumbsup2 It's great to drink bottled water... just make sure the seal is actually sealed when you get that bottle.

One thing I wonder, though... If you don't trust a place's water, how do you wash your hands after using the restroom? I just used a ton of soap and diligence. 'Course, I came home with cholera... :rotfl: Do you suggest Purel, after washing your hands for 20 seconds?

Hi,
This has probably been addressed somewhere but I can't keep up with this board. Has anyone gotten shots since we are going to Mexico? ...

A year ago I had set a reminder on my electronic calendar to follow-up in Spring 2008 with my doctor to get a shot for Costa Maya since I planned to go inland. However....well....ya know the rest of the story.

Thanks for the education nonetheless, Erik and Brandie!

Hi friends! I can't catch up with the past 10 (!!) pages right now, but I was just checking in before dinner finished cooking :) 'Cause I'm in the kitchen, with the laptop, looking like I'm working on dinner :surfweb:

I had planned to not tag our FE gifts, but then found a cute picture so I made tags. Then I was just going to attach tags to the gifts but not really assign anything...just sort of choose as we go along.

But then I started looking over the list, & thinking of things that some people have commented, and I ended up tagging & room-labeling all the FE gifts! I don't think they will fit in the suitcase as neatly as before (because now they have tags & none are exactly the same!), so I think we'll pack an extra small bag for the FE gifts. I'm so excited to pass them out now! Not that I wasn't before, but now that I've thought out who is getting what, it made me all that much more excited :hippie:

We've had a rainy day here, with much more rain to come our way. In the Dallas area, we won't see anything damaging, but we're expecting some good rain from the hurricane.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of anyone in hurricane's way...but I know some of us are. So I'm sending out prayers for all my Double Dip friends in hopes that you stay safe!

I use wegoshop all the time.

Just had to chime in too...we've used WeGoShop for years, and Marge is amazing at customer service!!! I would recommend them always!

We didn't get shots last year and chose not to this year. We are only on land a short time and really only eat on the ship so the precautions already mentioned well be followed. I don't expect any problems as long as we are careful. Lois

Charlie - Glad you are doing well.......we missed you.

I asked the Pediatrician about the shot to go to Mexico and she said as long as we were not staying at a hotel in Mexico or going really inland, nothing was necessary. She also reinforced the "Don't drink the water." Sealed and bottled only. I plan on bringing my own just to be safe.:thumbsup2

Erica - Congrats on the book!

Time is ticking away.....before we know it we will all be cruising along with the drink of the day......Boy do I need this vacation!

I'll never catch up with all the chatting you all have done since I went AWOL. Since we were close to not going, I decided to wean myself off the board... But doctor has given the okay to leave the country. No more surgery for Alex at this point, just the scheduled surgery when we get home. His drain is still draining, but they gave us waterproof bags so he can go to the beach and get wet (so the new splash area is Godsend to us), but not submerge in water. However, there's a good chance he'll be all better by the time we leave.

I think the drainage is lessening (of course it could be wishful thinking), so hopefully we'll be drain free in 13 days.

Either way, in two weeks, we'll be in the Magic Kingdom!

Thanks for all your prayers, pixie dust, good thoughts, etc.

:cool1: Julie glad you all will still be joining us!! :) Heres to Alex getting better every day. :yay:

OH JULIE!!!

I can't tell you how happy I am to hear Alex is doing so much better! It's wonderful seeing you here again! Earlier this week, you were the hot topic of the day as we were all worried that we hadn't heard from you. :grouphug:

We'll continue praying for a fast recovery and for you to get some sleep!

Julie, I am so glad you got the OK from the DR. and everything is OK. We will continue to pray that the draining is all done before you leave! If you need anything we are all here for you........that's what a DIS family is for right?

If there is anything I can do for you, please don't hesitate to ask! I'm not that far away!

When is your flight? I think I remember you saying that you are flying Southwest, right?
