Since we are getting a little closer to our cruising date :goodvibes , there's another wonderful idea that we've discussed over the past year that I think should be brought back to life.

Costa Maya School Supply Mission

OPEN TEAM LEAD & TEAM MEMBER POSITIONS: With all the tragedy last year from Hurricane Dean, I think the idea that was presented by Tammie (MAGICFOR2, who is no longer cruising with us) to this group last spring is an even more important mission.

Check out page 16, posts 233 & 237 (and probably a little beyond) in our first thread to learn about the concept of donating some school supplies for the children in Costa Maya. If you would like to be our coordinator and have the satisfaction of delivering our gifts in person, please make yourself known here!

Tammie, as I'm sure you are still lurking, if you have any other thoughts to share, please do!

We are just home from rehearsal and the production T-shirts are in. Dave never orders one for himself (none of us are big T-shirt wearers but he is the least likely to wear one of all). They are a perfect shade of DIS lime green:woohoo: with the Disney Peter Pan and Tink on the front. The kids and I are soooo gonna wear them at WDW in Septmeber:goodvibes

Very very cool. Can you post a picture please? Lois

Thanks Hadley! :cool1: That's a great idea to buy a pass from our town then get into the Fl. museum free. My kids love all that science stuff.
Tonya

Hi All,

Tonya--Another hint on the Orlando Science Center. They are still a part of the Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC). This means if you belong to a local museum which is also part of ASTC you can get free admission there throug the reciprocity/passport program. It is a fabulous deal. We alwasy belong to a local ASTC museum and then use the passport program heavily when traveling as well as visiting locally several times. Here is the link to the list to see if you have a museum near you that also participates (sometimes memebrships at your local museum will be less expensive than tickets for your family at the museum where you are traveling to would be!):

Kimberly, how did you know? From what I read, even paper and pencils are much appreciated. Maybe those who want to participate could choose between bringing packs of pencils, notebooks, cheap folders, pencil sharpeners, colored pencils - of course they would probably love a little treat, too. DDIL was going to bring toothbrushes and toothpaste, too. Maybe someone knows a dentist who would donate some? :confused3 I so wish we were going...I was looking forward to meeting those little faces.

Happy planning, everyone - you are getting close! :dance3:

Kimberly I am happy to make a donation however the excursion I have planned is going to prevent us from assisting with the delivery. They might benefit from just a little cash as well. That is as long as we have an honest person accepting the donations. Does anyone belong to a church that has a mission or contact down close to Costa Maya? I really thing this is a good idea and know that the kids will enjoy anyuthing we can bring. Lois

Oooooooh! :goodvibes Great idea, Lois!

Maybe some of our teachers can check to see if they can locate a contact person as well. Maybe we can arrange to have a group meet us at the pier or close by so we can do this and still do our shore excursion. Maybe there is someone at DCL that might be able to help. I see that finding a contact person in Costa Maya to be our largest issue in this project. Lois

Count me in for donating supplies :)

Now, another question: I read that on the regular Western itinerary brunch is served on both sea days and Key West day. So, what day besides the 2 sea days on our cruise is brunch served?

I think we will give up our third Brunch day for our 2 days at Castaway. We really won't know until the ressies open up. Lois

We're also in to donate some school supplies of some sort. Sorry I can't be in charge. I am, however, going to send out an email to our neighborhood to see if anyone has a contact in Costa Maya. In our neighborhood, we have a big handful of global voluteers, church leaders, etc so maybe I'll have some luck!

Excellent! Thank you! I think Lois is right on this one. If we could get someone to meet us at the port, that would be perfect!

Count us in for some donating! I think My dh and Crissichef Dh are going to do a mayan ruins tour but they would not be able to handle getting the stuff to where it needs to be:lmao:

One of my neighbors replied & suggested contacting the Rotary Club. She said they had done a school supply donation event in Guatemala, & they found a donation person through the Rotary Club.

Cool, Maybe several of us should make contact with our local clubs to see what we can find out. Lois

Now let's get this summer rolling!

On another note, when you return Brandie, know that on Tuesday, I was thinking about Fiona in all her new princess princess: dresses. I can't wait to see her! Then, this morning, sadly I was thinking about you and the fam getting off the Magic today. I'm sure you're glad you have only 20 weeks until you return!!

When does our Hawaiin suntanned girlfriend and Bunnypod come back from the girl's getaway?

Are you back this weekend, Tiffany?

I was looking up our itinerary today and noticed this:

01 Cape Canaveral, Florida --- 4:00 PM
02 Key West, Florida 11:30 AM 7:30 PM
03 At sea --- ---
04 Riviera Maya, Mexico 7:30 AM 4:30 PM
05 Cozumel, Mexico 9:30 AM 6:30 PM
06 At sea --- ---
07 Castaway Cay, Bahamas 9:30 AM 5:00 PM
08 Cape Canaveral, Florida 7:30 AM ---

Didn't it used to say Costa Maya?

Sorry all. This is from the website we booked our cruise with, not DCL. DCL still says Costa Maya

:confused3 Interesting.

Kim, congrats! That's awesome. I was just looking over at my budget spreadsheet, because that is what kind of nerd I am, and noticed that my cruise will be paid in full in FOUR WEEKS! I'm so excited. I know, I won't be able to book anything yet, but it takes a load off my mind. Also, we have approximately 1/3 of our WILD AND CRAZY GEEK TIME spending money, most of which goes to booze and the spa. Excursions? Bah. I need a massage and a pina colada!

Ok, I should get back to writing so I can get this cruise paid for.

Oh, and PS - I'll be starting my pre-TR as soon as my current project is done. You're all invited!
