"Double Dip Delight" 09/27/08 - Take 2 with Link to Original Thread!

While I was cheating on you guys, I did see someone (Dizzi) who posted on Friday, live from the Mexican Riveria, that she had just left the Character Breakfast. It is once again a picture-taking-at-your-table-type breakfast not the dancing around the room "thing" that it had recently turned into. I know several of you will be pleased to hear that.

Buckeye Gal,

Started to post this on our thread, and realized it makes more sense to post it here, so I'm crashing your meets thread now!!

I just looked at the link you provided, and holy smokes you guys are on the ball! Seems like a great group of dissers. Actually, I'm going to steal part of your link and copy/paste the unofficial Costa Maya excursion info that you have there, if that's okay.

Now that I've logged onto here, I've realized that you already know about our source for the school supplies. Yes - we've also talked about the school supplies idea, and were looking at having it added to an independent tour that we've been exploring with the guys you'e mentioned - David and Ivan. They have done the school visit/supplies drop off before as part of their excursions, and are willing to build it in for us again this time. I am sure that if you're not booking an excursion through them, they would still be willing to take the supplies for you, or hook you up with someone who can. The company is A Native Choice, here's the link to their website.

http://www.thenativechoice.com/index.php

You can e-mail them with your questions, Ivan has been pretty prompt in replying to mine. He told me that they've been told the port will re-open in July, with the first cruisers expecting to be returning by August - so we should all be good to go by the fall!

We will be eagerly looking for your trip reports!! Any hints or useful research you've found would be great as well - feel free to come crash our meets again!

Valerie

I just posted back on the 10/25 cruise Meets thread to thank Valerie! She's already making good use of info we have on Post #6 that they were seeking out themselves! Don't ya just love the DIS?!!

I saw that thread as well...we were going to skip the character breakfast, but now that they are doing it where they come to your table we will do it for sure.

Ok has anyone else been stimulating the economy buying all sorts of stuff for the cruise? I have bought two sundresses/casual dresses and also a few new skirts, shorts, t-shirts, water shoes, my list goes on trust me;) all in preparation for the cruise. I can't believe we are almost in the double digits.

Big changes onboard! Not only this news about the CB but have ya'll heard about the Pirate Night changes? It is now in "test phase". They changed the time to 7:30 and cut back the buffet to desserts only. There is a thread about it on the main board. Reaction has been mixed so far. I guess now it makes it easier for folks on late seating, but may rush those on early seating a bit. Since there is no show on Pirate Night (on the 7 night cruises anyway) there aren't the logistics involved in that. The only issue I have with it is we actually like to make Pirate Night our Palo night. Its easy(easier) to get a reservation and by eating early this one night we had more appetite for the buffet. :confused3 So.....this may not work as well for my planned itinerary.

Anyway, some news all of you OCD planners might find interesting!

So those of us with late dinning will have the dessert buffet then go to dinner (late dining is 8pm right I have so many numbers thought, things in my head I think have OD'ed on my OCVP) Not that I have a problem with dessert 1st LOL. So what will be after dinner later dinner then.. if no show. Im sure they will have some type of activites but I guess I was just used to dinning then a show. then a few adult beverages then hitting the rack (who am I kidding adult beverage AFTER a show.. it will be during before, while getting ready etc etc etc... LOL:rotfl:

Oh I'll take dessert first too!:cool1:

Nah, from what I read they still had the dessert buffet later in the evening 10-12 pm. And they made the late seatings a little bit later to accomodate the fireworks afterward. Something for us to keep our eye on...

Hey All,
I am back from Neverland:rotfl2: We had a great show and big audiences the second weekend and had a balst doing it and are exhausted from it!!!

A couple of quick replies to some of the MANY thigns I missed the past two weeks:

Brandie: I have seen many people wearing dress uniforms on formal night. I think there were a dozen or so on the Tran Atlantic alone.

Crissi: Wonderfully sweet photo. Thank you for sharing.

Kimberly: My short form take on Palo is we would actaully be skipping dinner entirely at this point were it not for the fact that we love the chance to dine with friends we are not otherwise dining with. I always miss my regular servers and have never gotten "better" service in Palo and the food does not apeal much to either of us (I am very picky and this comes as no surprise but Dave is not picky and it is surprising he does not care for it). The pizza and souflee are wonderful though (but now we can make the soufle ourselves so that has lost some appeal). It is lovely there and I do think it is at least something you should try once. Like Erik and Jason, we were totally unimpressed with the brunch and have no desire to do that again at all. Dave is generally not a froo froo kinda guy but he agrees with me that tea is delightful and I am hoping we can snag a ressie for that this trip.

My Disney memories (I have narrowed it to three which is the best I can do) in no order:

1.The transatlantic cruise last May. Wow. I just can't describe how completely magical this trip was from start to finish. A perfect trip with perfect people. It is really a BUNCH of top notch memories all strung together into one amzing, perfect, never to be duplicated vacation:
Dancing at 80s night with Chris and Rob and Sandi and Darrel and Deanna and Greg and Cindy
The pirate party with Erik and Jason
Watching the kids turn it ON for HSM karaoke
Pictionary with Sandi and Darrell
Rio and Erik winning Mickey Mania by a landslide (the photo of them holding up their medals afterwards is one of my all time favourites and hangs on our dinig room wall amid the best family photos)
Winning two Don "Ducky" Williams sketches between the four of us
and on, and on and on. I made my best friends on this trip (and so did Marika--she considers Abby to be one of her two very best friends).

2. Many years ago, when we had Annual passes to WDW Nestle had made their corporate lounge in the Land Pavillion available to annual passholders to use. It was a quiet and cool place to escape on a hot day. Located above the Garden Grill it contained many comfy couches, free fountain sodas, several TVs and some board games. It was gret palce to take the kids and just chill out. One day we were in there and the kids were playing Chutes and Ladders (they were probably 3 and 5 at the time). Chip and Dale came up from their rounds at the Garden Grill and sat down and started playing with the kids (on the floor). Chip only stayed a moment (As I expected) but Dale played with Rio and Marika for about 20 minutes. :) It was just so sweet and unscripted and fun. Nothing like standing in line for autographs. I loved that time for the kids (who were still little enough to believe) just getting to PLAY with Dale.

3. Last September. We were at the Comedy Wharehouse's first show of the night. The audience was only about 1/2 full and we were all the way down front. During one of the games Rio was pulled up on stage and drawn into the action. He was told by the comedian playiong a crook to pretend he was said man's son. The girl playing the police officer asked Rio "What's his name?" It was clear she was expecting Rio to say he didn't know and then "capture" the crook red handed, etc. (sorry I know I am not being clear here). Rio--my little performer--threw his arm around the man;' shoulders and said "I just call him DAD" while fluttering his insanely long lashes. The girl nearly broke character and the otehr people on the edge of the stage as well as the audience, lost it. I know I am a mom, but it really was funny and he was so natural up there and it was fun to see that. They ended up keeping him up there about 3 or 4 minutes and ahnding him a mike. I truly think he did a good job of rolling with the punches nad being funny without upstagine anyone or just being a "cute kid". Taht is something I could never do. Needless to say Comdey Wharehouse (along with Adventurer's Club) is high on Rio;s list of must visit agains.

Hi Peter:) One of these days I will actually meet you:thumbsup2
--there were MANY awesome people we met on that trip who I left out on my post. I just was trying to avoid typing a novel:rotfl2: Everyone you just mentioned was/is fantastic. We had a lot of fun with the grass skirts and dancing the evening away at the Margatritaville party with that lot:goodvibes

WHAT'S THIS????? I'm I reading this right? They are doing away with Pirate Night?? I also look forward for those Turkey Legs. What will be in it's place? Pirate Night was the climax of the cruise:(

Technically, they are not doing away with it but moving it between the two dinner services. From what I read, the buffet is still held later up on Deck 9 but just desserts.

I'm a bit confused by what people are writing about the pirate night changes, too. So now there are two dessert buffets? so that it's after each dinner seating? Or there is just one long buffet that starts at 7:30pm? Jason and I are on late dining, too, which I am sure starts at 8 or 8:30pm...so I can't believe that DCL would schedule it so that the party happens entirely during a dinner rotation so that people have to choose to EITHER do pirates on deck or have dinner?

And when you say there's "no show" does that mean the deck party with the dancing characters, Captain Hook, buccaneer Mickey and the fun fireworks is done away with?

Erik,

According to the thread, they are trying something new with the time. The pirate party takes place around 7:30 with the fireworks going off around 8:20 (at which time everyone says is dark). They apparently have been extending the late dinner for that night and starting at 8:30. After the party/fireworks, the late seaters head to dinner.

It looks like the pirate buffet takes place later (around 10) and does not include the turkey legs.

It's posted that this is just a trial for now. We'll just have to wait it out and see what happens.

I have mine from my last two cruises so I want the new one. BUT I want the Costa Maya Excrusions. I e-mailed DCL to ask when they might have them posted and I got this nothing answer that said they were working feverishly to finalize the details but gave no idea when they might be finalized. So be it. Lois

Funny cause I got that same exact answer about 4 months ago when I called DCL and asked for Costa Maya excursions :confused3

That sounds like perhaps it's the same thing. Mine, however, came directly from DCL, not my TA.

In addition to the cover letter, there's brown file pocket that states on the outside "My Cruise Travel Kit". Then inside this pocket is a booklet named "Ship and Shore Vacation Guides". Inside there are mini-booklets bounded together by an elastic string. These mini-booklets include the following sections:

  • Shore Excursions/Special Cruises
  • Quick Tips for Smooth Sailing
  • Gifts
  • Setting Sail - Disney Magic
  • Vacation Protection Guide
  • Formalwear
Is that what you're familiar with?

Here's a picture.

We got ours too.. I was disappointed when the cover of the first part says shore excursions.. and yet.. no excursions were in it.. :worried:

I got my travel kit also on Thursday. Its just a welcome kit and it give me the date that I can book online reservations..June 29th

Hi Aunt Michele :yay:

We got ours too. We actually got 2 of them.. One is for Big Andy.. and their date to book is July cause they aren't special like us.. :lmao: I guess it doesn't matter what theirs says cause I will be the one Booking them anyway
:surfweb: Counting down til midnight!!

Well, I guess one positive thing about the Pirate Party and fireworks being at 7:30 is that a lot of the younger kids won't be too tired to watch the show........more of them will just be falling asleep in their plates at late dinner seating :rotfl:

Congrats Maggie! Will they let you sail? I just read if you are 24 weeks or farther along you can't. Do they really ask?
Tonya

Hello everyone!
When we set sail, I will officially be 26 weeks along with our second child - our son Avery will be almost 4. This will be his first time in the clubs...hopefully AFTER summer camp and the start of K3 he wont be as apprehensive about going somewhat solo...anyone else have little ones around that age?

Well, I hope all is well with everyone - I would love to hear from just about anyone...it's always fun knowing people BEFORE you meet on the ship.
