Any tips for traveling with our 13 month old? We are going to Disney world for 4 days from July 4. I know it will be very hot. Any tips for keeping cool and things for our 13 month to do?

We're in the planning stages for bringing our son, so here's some of the tips I've found in other threads:

  • Froggy Towels - 1 large towel can be cut into smaller towels
  • People debate back and forth about whether to keep the napping schedule and return to the room or to nap in the stroller - I plan on seeing how he does and playing by ear.
  • Definitely bring a stroller fan and possibly a mister as well as some light cloth to help create more shade.
  • Make sure you bring good sunscreen. Re-apply often.
  • Bring swimmer diapers so they can get wet in the play areas.
  • Put a change of clothes in a zip-lock bag each day and bring to the park - if you need to change out of an outfit, dirty clothes go into the ziplock.
  • Lots and Lots of breaks
  • Check out the other threads, people even have lists of which rides are great for taking a baby into to nap. Off the top of my head, I can think of Ellen's Universe of Energy and Hall of Presidents.

Bring frozen water bottles with you. You can use them on your skin/pulse points to keep cool and drink the water as it thaws to stay hydrated.

As for things to do, make sure you have something for attaching everything to the stroller. I love my BooginHead SippiGrip velcro strap for my DS sippy cup. I got it from either Babys R Us or Buy Buy Baby. I can't remember which. I know Amazon has it but I think I paid less at the store.

I've tried the Baby Buggy Secure-A-Toy straps for toys and they are ok but not nearly as good as the velcro. And tossing toys is a game DS never seems to get tired off. Much easier when they don't get left behind by accident.

So to bring for entertainment:

  • Those frozen water bottles mentioned above - DS LOVES playing with a frozen bottle. Nice thing is, when it's empty, you can add a few small colorful pebbles or mints to the bottle and let them have a rattle (note: to make this permanent, use hot glue under the cap, but it's great as a quickie toy when you have nothing, just make sure the cap is on TIGHT).
  • Small toys that can be attached to the stroller
  • Snacks
  • If you have your cloth for shade, it's also a great peek-a-boo towel. I use napkins at restaurants for this as well.
