dorm tips

Wow. If I had your dorm, I may have stayed more than one semester! After that, it was apt. living for me!

My advice is the same as Karel's. Meet people, get involved and try to stay and hang out on the weekends. I was too busy missing home and being involved with my boyfriend to make friends and I regret that.

Have a lot of fun!

i actually dont need quarters. at osu they have this thing called the buck id which is your school id but it also has your food swipes and cash on it that either you or your parents put on. so i can swipe my card and do laundry w/o quarters. :)

Oh, that is sooo cool!

:cool1:

It's kind of nice that you have a while 'nother room for desks - but we always did homework on our beds. I had a top bunk for a semester in college - hated it - always got in late after roomie was asleep and she would get mad if I woke her up. So get there early for a bottom bunk!

i actually want a top bunk. i figure i will feel less clausterphobic. i mean if you look in the quicktime thing you notice how cramped the bunks are. i want the top.

a lockable foot locker or trunk.
great for secure storage and can function as a table

Christmas lights to decorate your dorm or suite is always a nice touch too!

Oh, thanks for this one! DS's two best friends just left for PSU main campus and I'm getting a care pkg together for them. The Xmas lites will have meaning for BOTH of them, coming from me!! I buy them compulsively, and it was a running joke among the trio!!

My DD first year, she ended up needing warmer clothes sooner than what she thought she would! Don't take to many summer clothes, as Fall is right around the corner! She ended up wanting comfy clothes from Old Navy, sweats, hoodie's, etc.

Also warm bedding!

My DD said a wooden dryer rack was great for things she didn't want in the washer & dryer...mittens & scarves in the winter .

Clamp on lamp for your bed (since you want the top bunk) and 12 foot extension cord. We took a surge protector with her. Make sure you have the proper cord hook up for your computer and long enough to reach your desk or into your bedroom if you are going to use it in there. Those stick on hooks for the xmas string lights (or other string lights-DD got flamingo ones-REALLY cute). Microwave popcorn. Don't forget ibuprofin or tylenol in your drug kit. The locking storage is a great idea.

Have a good year. Do you know the other two room mates yet?

ive talked a bunch with one of them. she likes disney alot, i told her about the DIS. :)

The only thing I can add is trying to figure something out for privacy for changing. Looking at your floor plan I can't really think of anything. When I was at UMass we had this little walk in area right inside the door to either side that had a dresser, mirror and hanging bar. We would use a tension rod and hang a "curtain" there so we could have privacy for changing and getting dressed.

Get organized the first day. Set up your desk and notebooks and stuff right away. My roomate was all set up with notebooks and everything in its spot on her desk the first day and was always soooo much more organized then me!!

I don't have anything to add, but have lots of fun!! Your dorm room looks cool!

Going back to top or bottom bunk... I always got their early to claim the top bunk. I felt I had a little more privacy up there.

i finally got a chance to talk to my other roomate gina. shes really nice too. i set up a 4 person chat last night and we all got a chance to talk together. we all feel pretty lucky that we all got eachother because we are all studious and not interested in participating in ahem, late night extracurricular activites.... we were all scared we were going to be stuck with girls we didnt like but we all seem to mesh well.
