anyone got any tips for things to bring to my dorm or anything related to college life?

I never lived on campus but I hope you have a blast! My freshman year of college was the best year of my life so far.

lots and lots of quarters for laundry! good luck, at least you don't have to worry about a sucky roommate! :teeth:

i actually dont need quarters. at osu they have this thing called the buck id which is your school id but it also has your food swipes and cash on it that either you or your parents put on. so i can swipe my card and do laundry w/o quarters. :)

Bring cold medicine. I moved in yesterday morning and was in Brooks mid afternoon because I've already gotten a cold
Bring a fan. Our dorm room is comfortable only because we have fans going. Some of them litterally feel like saunas.
Milk crate type things work great for storing stuff in your closet/wardrobe. Get the stacking kind if you can so that you can stack them and store more junk.
Pictures of friends/family. It makes the room so much more comfortable.

does your dorm have ac? i think mine does, i might still bring a fan tho.

Bring a small fan just to mute out the noise going on either next door or in the hallway. Bring stackable storage OR bring your summer clothes and a few fall clothes then bring the really cold clothes when you come back from a visit. A nice rug for under the beds if you have school tile. This helps with the cold floor and the sweeping of the floor.

Do you already know the requirements for your computer for internet? Does it require an ethernet card? Do you have a telephone for your room? Have you thought about if you are going to do long distance or a phone card?

Before you start moving stuff into your room, actually go look in the room and decide how you want the setup to be. If you want the beds stacked, do so you can have more room or each have a corner of the room. Do this before having all your stuff in the way. If you can't figure out what is best for ya'll, ask the RA. They know this stuff and how to optimize storage space.

Make sure you have a shower caddy. I don't like shower shoes so I did'nt use them but lots others did. Ohhh bring tacky stuff to hang your stuff on the walls. More than likely you won't be able to use nails. Those things made by 3M are great for hanging stuff then you yank on the end to pull off and it doesn't pull the paint.

This should be enough for now but I'll keep thinking. Have a great time. I loved college and had a great time and met a couple of my best friends there.

As much as you may want too, don't run home every chance that you get.

Hang out at school on the weekends and see who you meet. Challenge yourself to find new things to do and create new patterns.

**collapsable laundry hamper--or any fabric hamper--easy to carry laundry to the laundry room or car

**snuggly pillows and bedding as there is no comfy familiar furniture in a dorm.

**an add on to the cold medicine--a first aid kit with things for aches and pains to cold and flu

**desk organizier--maybe even the apprentice one at Office Depot or Staples (I think)--with a stapler, lots of pens, pencils and other supplies.

**hangers so you can use your closet :)

*HEALTHY snacks for studying---lots o' popcorn (just don't burn it ;)), granola bars, nutrigrain bars and such.

**hallogen light or similar that is allowed--to have alternative lightening from the big flourescent thing on the ceiling.

**desk light

**headphones--just in case your roomate doesn't like the same music ;).

**your charger for your cell phone

**phone for the room (we had to provide our own in school)

**camera--you might wish to document some of that college experience

**bulletin board

**dry erase board for you door--great for friends to leave you a message if you or roomie isn't in.

**dry erase board for the room--to leave each other a message (post each others schedule on it or the bulletin board)

**dry erase markers

**minimal pots and pans--if you have a community stove (we did in our dorms...great when you actually did want to "cook" or "bake" something for once).

if I think of anymore, I'll post again :).

Bring a foam slab to put over your mattress and a good mattress pad. Oh and lots of jello.

AC in NH? Nope. I swear it doesn't exist in any school here.
Shower shoes. The showers are gross.

Make sure you have a good organizer...it's amazing how many meetings you'll need to keep track of.

If the walls are concrete and make hanging difficult, you could buy a big fabric wall hanging like we did. It made the place look better, plus we were able to pin pictures and notes on it.

Does your room have carpeting? If not, buy a $20 roll from Target or Wal-Mart. It gives the room personality and keeps your feet cozy and well when it snows, the carpet will be warmer than bare tile like I had.

Tools! If you have loftable beds and want to lower them you'll need some sort of wrench or monkey hammer to get those bad boys down and apart.

Garbage cans. Saves time from going down the hall every minute to throw something away.

Motley CD's!!!

Our beds at college were not lofts so we made them lofts with cinder blocks from home, perfect!!! Lots of storage underneith. Christmas lights to decorate your dorm or suite is always a nice touch too!

Have you seen them on the recent tour? I've seen them twice in the last 8 months (14 times in total now) -- the most recent just about 2 weeks ago. PM me with your email address and I'll email you pics from my camera phone. We were in the 3rd row!!

At least you have your own bathroom!!

Bring something to clean it with ;)

Bath towels, bathrobe....slippers!

Get there early for first pick of the bed :)

Otherwise--looks like tight confines.

Perhaps a clip lamp or something for your bed to allow for reading in bed while others sleep.
