Doreen's New Way of Life (comments are welcome)

:grouphug: to all of you!!

I made it 4 days but that was it for my sugar-free / low-carb marathon. I had 1.5 cups of ice cream Friday night. Saturday I had 1 cup ice cream. I WAS feeling really good but I now know that ice cream makes my stomach feel bad! This is valuable information because it will make resisting the urge easier. Laurie, your comments were right on the money, too. A little sugar just makes me crave more and the more I eat, the more I want.

Therefore, today will be the first of many sugar-free days for me!! There really aren't too many treats that are worth it when my stomach feels horrible for days afterward. This could be a big turning point for me and I'm excited about it! I actually WANT to be sugar-free, not because I want to be thin and I have to temporarily give up sugar and deprive myself, but because I love the way I feel when I feed myself food that nourishes me instead of making me sick.

DD's recital on Friday night was wonderful - the girls all did a great job! Yesterday was a lazy day. Last evening was dinner with my brother and a movie. We saw "Day After Tomorrow" - my brother's choice - I give it a C with an honorable mention to Dennis Quaid who is pretty easy to look at, if you like that distinguished look. ;)

Today, I've spent the last 3.5 hours working on our 2 home computers. This one is up and running now, but the other one is still being fixed. Then it's on to cleaning, laundry, etc. Since I was lazy yesterday, I need to get the chores done today.

Now I'm off to check on the other computer and to find some breakfast. :D It's going to be a good day! :sunny:

I am so excited for you and your turning point. It's strange how little things can change us. A little change in though can give us a whole new attitude. Here's to the new sugar free you! :bounce: Have a wonderful day and stay happy! :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

Congrats on your turning point. I feel the same about sugar. It just doesn't make me feel right and totally not worth it. That's not to say I will never eat another piece of cheesecake again but the times I do will be few and far between. Have a great day.:D

We went and saw "The Day after Tomorrow" last week ( we got a sneak preview) and we thought it was only okay. The special effects were great but the story line was a bit weak.

Glad to see you are doing good on giving up sugar! Way to go! I may have to give that a try once I get myself remotivated. Have a great Monday before it is back to the grind tomorrow!

~Amanda

Doreen- You sound like you have a renewed commitment to being healthy- that is great. It is wonderful to hear how excited you are to be sugar-free- I know you will be successful.
Yes- I agree with the statement about - If your body has sugar then your body just wants more sugar-
You will do great!

Happy Monday....er....Tuesday!! It feels like a Monday at work. :p I'm at a different location helping with a training class so I can only WISH over lunch for the next 3 days. The training is going well so far - I'm only support staff and I have about an hour that I must preside over each afternoon, so it isn't too bad.

I've been battling a sour stomach over the past few days. I'm living on water and Wheat Thin crackers - not exactly low carb but it's what my stomach will tolerate. I'm doing some research to figure out what the problem is and have a dr. appt. next Monday. If I need to reschedule for sooner, I will. I keep hoping I'll feel better on my own.

The good news is that I've been sugar free - since I really can't eat much. :p

I'll check in later.

:wave2: Hi Doreen,
Feels like a Monday around here today too ;) . Sorry to hear you're feeling under the weather. Hope you feel better soon. Good luck with the training :D  .

hi Doe,

Looks like your training this week isn't too bad, except WISH withdrawl. I hope all goes well. You have been battling that sour stomach for awhile. I hope you can get some answers at your appointment next week. Have you tried any yogurt? It might help coat your stomach.

Have a good afternoon,
Beth

Hey, Doreen. I hope you start feeling better very soon. Don't worry about what you're eating, just eat what you can. We're all thinking of you and hope you get well soon. Take it easy and take care of you. ::yes::

:wave2: Hey, how are you doing? I hope you're feeling better or at least getting some answers from your research. Hang in there and know I'm thinking about you and praying for you. Love, Erin

The training classes that I'm helping with are going well. My stress level is no longer sky-high, just moderately high now. :p I have one more day of training to help with tomorrow - I'm enjoying the laid back pace.

My tummy is starting to feel better. I've graduated from Wheat Thins to potato soup. I hope to be back to low-carb by Friday. I'm sure the stress had a lot to do with how I was feeling.

Tonight DD has an awards ceremony at the baton studio. It will be long but I'm going to eat a snack before I go and skip the refreshments. Not many kids are brave enough to start dance and baton lessons at the age of 14, so I'm very proud of her accomplishments this year!

My days are getting sunnier!! :sunny:

Did you just say potato soup? Did you? I love potato soup - now the stomach is growling! MUST RESIST! ;)

Hi Doreen,
I'm glad you're feeling a little better. There seems to be a lot of "blahs" going around. Your soup idea sounds great. I'm going to check my new low carb cookbook and try to find one for me this weekend. DH will be away on a golf outing.

When you and Erin feel better I'll post my low carb Margherita recipe so we can all have a virtual one at least.

NancyJ

Last night's awards ceremony went well. They gave out trophies for everything! DD is old enough to know that a trophy isn't as meaningful when EVERYONE gets one or if you get one just for showing up. There were no special awards given out - very politically correct.

I haven't been eating low-carb and the scale is definitely showing it - I was greeted with 137 this morning. I know I've been sick but I don't want to lose my 5 pound clippie! This morning's breakfast was a couple saltines and a handful of almonds. At least I've been able to take my anti-depressant today and yesterday - I think I missed 4-5 days with my tummy out of whack.

Gotta run - training starts!!

:sunny:

:wave2: Good morning, Doreen. How are you feeling today? I hope your belly handles those nuts and crackers OK. Did you know that tomorrow is Friday?::yes:: I think Nancy should post her Margherita recipe so that the celebrating can begin!:Pinkbounc

You went 4-5 days without your meds? Can your body really handle that instant withdrawal? Hmmmmm, just concerned about you, WISH-sis.

I hope training goes well today. Thinking about you. . .

Erin

Good Morning princess: Doe! I'm glad to hear you are starting to feel better and that the scale is moving in the right direction. I hope your training goes well today!

~Amanda

Hi Doe,

So hows the last day of training going? I'm glad to hear you are feeling a bit better. Don't worry about what you eat at the moment. Stay SF, and your body will thank you for taking good care of it.

Whew!! Training is over! It was a success, as far as I could tell from talking to the participants. My stress level is decreasing now that it's over.

I'm back in my office and am going to catch up on email & phone messages and try to bring some order to my desk for the rest of the afternoon.

Tonight the family heads to the chiropractor for our monthly adjustment. The rest of the evening is free - YAY!!

I had a turkey sandwich and a little soup for lunch. I'm trying to cut back on the carbs and add in proteins at each meal. Hopefully I'll be back to low-carb tomorrow - under 60g for the day. I need to make some tuna salad & some egg custard tonight so I have food to bring to work tomorrow.

I also need to walk the puppy tonight - I need to get back to exercising. I think it will help me feel better. My asthma (which has been acting up the past few weeks) and my tummy are feeling better so it's time to get back in the groove with lc eating and exercise.

Now I have to get some work done. I'll try to stop by journals tonight or tomorrow.

Okay the difference between a taco and a fajita:

Tacos are typically made with hamburger meat in taco sauce or seasonings and are in a hard shelll although you can also put them in soft shells. Toppings include cheese, sourcream, and refried beans (if you are my dh).

Fajitas are made with grilled steak or chicken with fajita seasonings. The meat is grilled with green peppers and onions. Then you load it all into a tortilla wrap - or in my case you just put it in a bowl. Toppins are sour cream, cheese, and salsa.

YAY! :Pinkbounc It's Friday! :Pinkbounc Nancy, bring the margaritas to Doreen's--we're all waiting here!:Pinkbounc

I hope that you have a great Friday and a relaxing weekend, Doreen. Take care of YOU, ya gotta it?

:flower:,,and :sunny: --
