Doreen's New Way of Life (comments are welcome)

Amanda, thanks!! Your explanation is great! Now I'm hungry for mexican food - YUM!!

I'm feeling like my old healthy WISHer self today! I got up early this morning, made egg custard & tuna salad and cleaned up the kitchen. I think I'll set some familiar goals for today - I'm feeling up to tackling them!

1. Meds & vitamins - just took 'em! :D
2. Water - 5 mugs at work (60 oz) + more during the evening. I'm working on the first mug now.
3. Food - I'm ready for a true low-carb day. I'm having tuna salad on fiber rye crackers for breakfast and egg custard & an apple w/ PB for lunch. Dinner will be a jerk chicken salad at a local restaurant - my vanpool driver is retiring and the riders are having a surprise party for him. If I have any in between meal cravings, I'll have a piece of Trident gum.
4. Exercise - Tried to walk the puppy last night & she didn't want to go. I've got to stop taking my cues from her and get my walk in no matter what. I think I'll walk 1 mile during lunch today.

I'm headed toward the D-Zone - I'm at Day 21. I avoided the scale this morning - afraid of what I might see. I'm going to try to have a healthy eating & exercise weekend and then get on the scale. I do want to weigh and take measurements this weekend because I want to compare the numbers before and after my Disney trip. I really think I'll come home thinner but I want hard numbers to prove it. :p

I'm ready for the day! :sunny:

Good morning Doe!!!
You sound bright and :sunny: this morning! I hope you have a wonderful day today!!!:Pinkbounc

Wow! Your WDW trip is right around the corner. I hope you have a wonderful, relaxing time where you are treated like a princess:.

Take care!

Tracy:wave2:

Doe I was reading through journals last night and I just HAD to point out to Brian that you and Todd are leaving in a little under 10 days. :duck: I told him we have to get the DVC to which he replied, "Amanda I think you and the DVC would be a dangerous combination." LOL!

I'm glad you are back to your princess: Wish-sis self! Just be ready to :moped: through that D-zone!

Hi Doreen, sounds like you've got a great plan going. YOU GO GIRL, You go girl, you go girl..... Have a great day.

Hey Doreen- you do sound ready to tackle the day! You have a good plan so half the battle is over. I hope there really is a possibility that you can come home from WDW lighter. (I am not holding my breath on that one though) We will have to compare notes when we get back.
Have a great low-carb day.
:sunny: Mary

It was a good day yesterday!! I met ALL MY GOALS!!!! What a nice change from the slacking I've been doing! :p OK, I really wasn't slacking - just giving my stressed out self a break from some of my "shoulds". It's time to get back to putting me at the head of the list and resuming those healthy habits!

It's always harder to meet my goals on the weekends. I miss the routine of my work day. That routine reminds me of my healthy habits - get to work, eat breakfast, take the pills. Without that routine, I tend to let things slip. Maybe I need a weekend routine? I'll think about that one after vacation! :p

1. Meds & vitamins - gotta eat breakfast soon & take them.
2. Water - need to keep a mug with me all day. If it's with me, I'll drink it!
3. Food - low-carb! Egg custard, tuna salad - these are made and waiting patiently in the fridge. Such a relief to have food available & ready! ::yes:: I'll have to make a store trip for dinner food.
4. Exercise - a tough one today. I'd like to walk but it's cold & rainy here. I either have to brave the yuck with an umbrella or do my Pilates. Gotta get this bod movin' again!! ::yes::

My other goal is to pack for Disney. That will definitely reduce my stress! I'll be in my jammies for a while til all my clothes are clean. Then I'll put the clothes for Disney aside and hope I have enough other stuff to get through next week. I've already warned people that I may wear the same outfit 3 days next week! :teeth: ;)

My tummy's a little queasy. I was feeling good yesterday - eating small meals of low-carb food. But last night's dinner - a big salad with jerk chicken, walnuts & a little pineapple - undid it. It was good and it was pretty low-carb, but I just ate too much at one sitting. I've gotta learn when to stop. I should have asked for a take-home box and put half the salad in it before I even started eating.

It's gonna be a good day!! :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

Hi Doreen,
I hope you're recovered from your dinner last evening and can enjoy the weekend. I'm a little late sending the Margarita recipe from my new low carb cookbook, but here it is...I haven't tried it yet because I don't normally keep juices in the house.

" Although it's not super low in carbs, it's considerable less sugary than the commercial stuff" or so says the author.

1 1/2 cups lime juice, fresh or bottled
1/2 cup lemon juice, fresh or bottled
1 1/2 cups Splenda
2 cups water
1/2 teaspoon orange extract

Combine all ingredients in blender for 1 minute, and pour into a clean bottle. Refrigerate until ready to use.

*To make a margarita, combine 2 ounces of tequila with 6 ounces of margarita mix, and either put through the blender with lots of ice, or simply serve it in the rocks.

YIELD - about 1 quart. This whole recipe has 54 grams of carbs (SO DON'T DRINK THE WHOLE THING!), so figure about 10 grams in each 6-ounce serving of the mix.

This sounds easy. I hope it's better than the ones MeMe has tried.

NancyJ

Nancy, thanks for the recipe! I'll have to get the ingredients at the store and give it a try, for the sake of all the WISHers! I'll experiment for all of my wonderful friends! ;) :teeth:

I actually weighed and measured this morning. It wasn't pretty. I'm going to post it in spite of my embarassment.

Weight = 137 down 5 pounds from 142
Bust = 39.5 the same as when I started last August
Chest = 33.5 the same as when I started
Waist = 32.5 1.5 inches less than my start
Hips = 40 the same as when I started
Thighs = 40 1 inch less than my start

There it is, the ugly truth. There's no denying it - the numbers speak for themselves. I can beat myself up over those numbers or I can choose to move forward and work to change them. I have the power to help myself feel better instead of the heavy bloated feeling I have now.

Sad :( but moving on. Please pass the margaritas! :p

Doreen, you are so brave - getting out the tape and getting on the scale after tummy trouble all week.

I climbed on the scale today too - knowing all too well that my tummy trouble wouldn't have made it move in the right direction either...you'd think it would, but instead I think it just makes me the "incredible human sponge." (BTW, I'm blaming bad take-out BBQ and a full moon for all the distress...I can't blame hormones, even though my skin is sure acting like it.)

Congrats on getting through your training week and all that stress - and staying away from the sugar!

Thank you so much for all your prayers and positive thoughts for Jeff - hopefully he'll advance through the hiring process (and I'll lose my personal 24/7 chef.)

Enjoy your weekend - I'll still waiting for mine (and some good weather!)

-Laurie:sunny:

Well, I ate low-carb for MOST of the day yesterday. I even ordered a bacon cheeseburger w/ no bun at Ruby Tuesday's - it was delish!! DH wanted a margarita - so we got a very large blue one  and I think that started me on the wrong path. I was picking fries off DS' plate & DD's plate and then we ordered one dessert for the 4 of us to share. At least I limited myself to about 7 bites. So today the tummy trouble is back. I know better but I was just so disgusted with the weight and measurements yesterday and I'm in the D-Zone - just another weak moment for me!

Today's a new day. Do I dare set goals?? Will I just blow them off like I did yesterday - forgot meds, didn't drink water, blew low-carb food at dinner and no exercise.

The weekends are tough without a set routine to remind me when to accomplish my goals. I suppose I should set the same goals and try, try again. If I never try, I'll never succeed.

I'll half-heartedly set the same four goals - meds, water, low-carb food and exercise. Today might be the day I actually meet them, right?

Onward and possibly downward! :sunny:

Hi Doreen :wave2:

I just finished reading your journal (ok, I split it over two days, I mean .. 105 pages .. lol!) All I can say is 'Wow'. What an amazing journey you're on. Your honesty and candid entries throughout are so inspiring. I feel I couldn't just 'lurk' away without giving you a hug. So .. Hope that's not over the line. ;)

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences online. I hope you have a wonderful trip to the World.

Cheers,
Caroline

Caroline, thanks for the hug and the encouragement! They mean a lot! I think I'll go back and re-read my journal - it might help to see where I've been.

I've taken my meds & vitamins. I've had 1 glass of water. I've eaten tuna salad on rye crackers, and some egg custard with blueberries - definitely low carb so far. I've walked a mile with my DS and the puppy. That means I've met 2 goals and am on the way to meeting the 2 others.

Now I'm off to pack for my trip! :sunny:

Here's a hug  for you, dear WISH-sis. You were so brave to take your measurements. My hat is off to you. Your goals for today are achievable and I know that you can do them! :drinking1 and :drinking1, Doreen. You know it's good for you and you'll feel it's positive effects.

Doreen, I think Caroline's post was well-timed. You DO need to go back over your journal, to reflect and to regroup and to see how far you've come the last several months. It's been quite a journey, and I feel so blessed to have been on it with you. Maybe next week, when you're sitting and relaxing in the hot tub, you can take a few moments to just think about it all.

You asked what my training plans were for this coming week, and my plan is to keep it small. Five 2-mile walks between 6/7-6/13. The following week I'll go back to a long walk 4-6 miles on one of the days, and the week after that I hope to go to 5-7 miles. That's the plan. . .

You're going to meet those goals--unless you have another blue margarita.:p Oh, when I was talking about :drinking1 , I meant WATER!!!:teeth:

Lots of love,
Erin

Hi Doreen-

Just checking in on ya, I don't know how you do it all, reading your journal makes me feel tired!:hyper:

Get that tummy all better, you gotta feel good on your DW trip! Sick is for work. (just kidding-well maybe not!;) )

Hope you have a great time, probably won't be relaxing :teeth: but maybe you can shoot for stressfree?

Thanks for checking in on me- I appreciate the support :D

Have a great week.

 Hi Doe,
I hope that tummy of yours has stopped giving you trouble. Doesn't it know there is a :mickeybar in it's near future :teeth: ? This week is going to fly right by, I'm sure. Have a great night :D .

I hope your stomach is feeling better. You are very brave to weigh/measure and then post. You are doing a great job, don't forget that! Have a wonderful trip.:D

Thanks for making my morning journal visit a good start to my day. I can feel the love and warmth in each post and I am truly grateful to be surrounded with such wonderful people. :grouphug:

I have discovered simethicone!! My digestive troubles have led me to try many over-the-counter remedies and none seemed to help until now. Simethicone is the active ingredient in Gas-X and many other anti-gas over the counter meds. Being cheap, I bought the store brand but the ingredients are the same and it has truly helped get rid of that bloated feeling. I can highly recommend it. I still have a drs. appt. tonight for a check on my other meds and will talk with him about it, but at least I can relieve the symptoms!

DS & I went to see the new Harry Potter movie yesterday and I had popcorn. Believe it or not, it settled my stomach and I felt much better! This was before my Gas-X discovery! :p

Today is a new day! I'm ready to take it on! I met 2 of my 4 goals yesterday but today I'm hoping to meet them all! I've already taken my meds & vitamins. I'm working on my water. I'll be eating healthy and I'm going to try to get 2 miles of walking in during my work hours today. I can walk a mile during morning break (if I get one) and a mile at lunch.

Wishing :sunny: to all!!
