Doreen's Fresh Start & Success Story! (Welcome Friends!)

:grouphug: for all my WISH friends. I've been terrible about getting around to all the journals lately but please know that I'm thinking of and praying for each of you. :grouphug:

Smilies yesterday = devotions, pills and water. All went well until late in the afternoon. My DS gave himself 2nd & possibly 3rd degree burns yesterday in the chem lab when he tried to pick up a piece of hot glass tubing. Of course he used the hand he writes with, so he burned his thumb and forefinger. The areas are small but the doctor knew it was painful and gave him Tylenol w/ codeine. Even so, he slept with his hand in a bowl of cool water. He's off school today.

Needless to say, this derailed my plan to go straight to the health club after work. I had to go home and tend to him, make the doctor's appointment, etc. Dinner was ice cream. I didn't get my exercise in and I didn't get to bed on time.

Today, though, I'm hoping to get back on track. The scale was back to 155 this morning.
1. Devotions - God never intends ill will for us.
2. Pills - taken.
3. Water - 4 mugs, I'm almost finished the first.
4. Healthy eating - B = ham, egg & cheese on croissant (25 carbs), L will be yogurt w/ walnuts, snacks will be a pear and a sf chocolate pudding cup.
5. Exercise - I'll head to the health club after work, barring any other major issues at home.
6. Bedtime - I'm tired. I really must get to bed on time at 10 PM.

Yesterday, someone at work put out the box of fundraiser candy bars. They are within sight of my desk as I sit at my computer. They call to me all day long. I'm sure that craving chocolate was my main motivation for eating ice cream last evening. Today I have come armed with my sf chocolate pudding! I'm going to resist that candy all day and I'll celebrate right before I leave by having my sf chocolate!! ::yes:: I simply MUST have chocolate in my life on a regular basis. :flower:

Another stressful day of work is at hand and I'm feeling weary. I'm taking time to pray and ask God for the strength I'm lacking. I can do this.

Onward, hoping to move downward, constantly looking and praying upward.

 and love to you this morning, Doreen. :flower3: How's DS doing? You're a strong woman to have had the day you had yesterday and then come to work with your game face on, ready to take on the challenges of the day. You WILL take on the challenges, step by step, and you'll see the good that's in the little things (like that yummy s.f. chocolate pudding).

WISH princess: law #1: Chocolate is a necessary part of life.

Anyone willing to second the motion? :teeth:

Love you, honey--
Erin

Good morning Doe!

I am so sorry to hear about your son's injuries! :earseek: How is he feeling today? I'll be sending prayers and :wizard: for both of you!

Have you ever heard the song, "His Strength is Perfect" by Steven Curtis Chapman? (I think I may have posted this in your journal before.) Some of the words of his song came to mind when I read your post and I'd like to share them with you:

"His strength is perfect, when our strgength is gone. He'll carry us, when we can't carry on. Raised in His power the weak become strong. His strength is perfect... His strength is perfect."

I pray that you will have a blessed day, full of God's peace and strength, my friend.

Take care Doe!

Can you ask your co-worker to move the box? I know how difficult it is to look at something all day long that you can't have.

I'm so sorry to hear about DS! That had to hurt and hopefully will heal very quickly. Sending lots of good vibes his way.

I wouldn't beat yourself up over ice cream. You've got a lot going on and the added stress of DS's hand would have sent me over the top as well. Look at all you did accomplish yesterday. Drink some extra water today and exercise and you will lose that water weight that came back!

~Amanda

Hi Doreen!! That song Amanda just posted is excellent...I love Steven Curtis Chapman and the song "His Strength is Perfect" is on of my favorites. I am praying that God will give you that perfect strength as you face each day!

Afternoon Update:
3. Water - halfway through my 3rd mug, a bit behind so I'll have to drink up.
4. Healthy eating - L was as planned - yogurt w/ walnuts and a pear.

In about 30 minutes, my co-worker will pack up the box of fundraiser candy and head home - YAY!! I have not been too tempted today. Knowing that I have my sf chocolate pudding waiting for me has helped sooooo much!! I'll eat it after the candy is gone.

DS has spent the day sleeping, because of the codeine. He did go out to the store to get his prescription filled and to pick up some extra strength Tylenol. I talked to the school nurse. She felt he could make it through school tomorrow if we dose him up with 1000 mg of Tylenol and then he takes more in her office at lunchtime. I'll let him try it but told him he can go home if he's in too much pain. Fortunately he's a kid that likes school and wants to be there, so he won't go home unless it's really painful.

Work has been busy but productive. Thanks for all your support, encouragement, and prayers! :grouphug: I've bowed my head quite a few times today and I do feel God's presence. I also have my OC half marathon medal on my desk for inspiration.

All in all, things are going well and I feel better as the day goes on. :sunny:

The next challenges will be getting to the health club and figuring out what's for dinner that is quick & tasty AND the family will all eat.

EDIT: 9:15 PM
Evening Update
1. Devotions - :)
2. Pills - :)
3. Water - :)
4. Healthy eating - D was chicken parmesan w/ spaghetti, and, I confess, 3 small pieces of garlic bread. No it wasn't low-carb but it sure was good and I was careful with portions. I don't think I deserve a smilie, but I did good today.
5. Exercise - 30 minutes on the treadie (2 minutes run / 6 minutes walk) and once around the weight circuit. I bumped up the weights on almost every machine. It felt great! :)
6. Bedtime - 10 PM for sure! :)

:sunny: Good morning!! :sunny:

I'm feeling sunny today! It's Thursday and it has already felt like a long week. We're in the homestretch though, on our way to the weekend!

Yesterday was a 5 :) :) :) :) :) day. I did good with food but I didn't eat a very low carb dinner so I'm not claiming the smilie. The scale was down a pound to 154 this morning, so that was a positive start to the day.

Today:
1. Devotions - Our faith is most evident in our love, care, and respect for others. (from the Upper Room devotional)
2. Pills - taken.
3. Water - another 4 mug day. It's amazing how much easier it is for me to get my water in when I use a straw. Of course, I splurge and buy the "bendy" straws! It's the little things that amuse me, ya know? :p
4. Healthy eating - B = yogurt w/ walnuts, L will be a burger or a Subway wrap, I have a banana for snack. D???? I'll worry about that as I'm driving home. I have a feeling I'll be stopping by the grocery store.
5. Exercise - My workout bag is in the car. If I do go by the health club, it will be for cardio only, since I lifted weights last night. I may just give myself the day off though.
6. Bedtime - 10 PM.

My work calendar is totally clear of any meetings today and tomorrow! :Pinkbounc Maybe I can actually sit at my desk and accomplish some work! :teeth: My goal is to get enough done that I don't have to come in on Saturday.

Congratulations Doe! :Pinkbounc

You are doing a fabulous job!! 5 :) is wonderful!!! Keep up the good work and have a great Thursday! :sunny:

OK, girlfriend, get your nose to the grindstone. You went into work LAST Saturday. . .do everything you can to avoid it again, OK? You need some extended time to regroup. I know, I know, I'm bossy, but I'm just telling it like I see it! :p

You're doing fantastic this week. Keep it up! Did you feel good after the weight lifting?

The Friday party starts early tomorrow morning--only a few more hours! :p

Erin

:cool1: :cool1: FRIDAY IS HERE!!! :cool1: :cool1:

I wasn't sure this week would ever end, but here we are!

Yesterday I earned 4 smilies for devotions, pills, water and bedtime. I gave myself the day off from exercise. Food, again, was good. Dinner was a burger and a baked sweet potato from Outback. However I did eat 5 pieces of chocolate and had some of Outback's bread, so I can't claim the smilie. No binging though, so I'm happy. The scale is steady at 154 so it's all good!

Today:
1. Devotions - I ask for God's help and guidance but don't notice the quiet, unobtrusive ways in which God is working in my life. I am learning to give God credit for the "coincidences," the "chance" meetings, the "unexpected" phone calls. - from the Upper Room online devotional.
2. Pills - meds will be taken with breakfast and vitamins will be taken with dinner.
3. Water - 4 mugs = 64 ounces.
4. Healthy eating - B = ham cheese & egg croissant (25 carbs), L will be yogurt w/ walnuts and a pear, PM snack will be sf chocolate pudding after the evil candy is put away for the day (this is working very well!), D????
5. Exercise - a trip to the health club on the way home from work for the weight circuit and 1/2 hour on the treaddie. My bag is packed and in the car.
6. Bedtime - 8 hours of sleep.

Work - yeah, more stress. :p I've got my OC medal and my prayers to help me get through the day. I didn't accomplish nearly enough yesterday so today I've got to buckle down. ::yes::

:rockband: Since we all know that we CAN party and work hard at the same time, let's get this party started! Let's all yell "BOO YA" with Ron Stoppable as we dance to the Naked Mole Rap!! This is from the Disney Channel series Kim Possible for those of you who are scratching your heads. :teeth: In honor of Amanda's impending Disney cruise, all of today's music will be Disney related! ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

Good morning, girlfriend! :flower: You've made it to Friday! Can we do a little limbo to "Under the Sea" this morning? :rockband:  Soon we'll all be living vicariously through Amanda and we'll be at sea with an umbrella drink in hand! Can I have a pina colada?

This afternoon I want you to take a minute to look at your medal and to remember us looking at that bridge, thinking it was almost impossible to cross. We went forward, though, step by step, and even though the wind shook us and rocked us, we kept walking, step by step, until we crossed that dang bridge and made it to the other side. That's all you have to do at work today, Doreen: keep walking step by step. It'll all get done and victory at work will soon be yours! :p

Have a good day, dear WISH-sis. Let's make some plans to get together soon!

Doreen, The Kim Possible CD is in may car right now set to Naked Mole Rat. I'll mellow things out a bit with Katie's new favorite. Kelly Clarkston from Princess Diaries 2.

I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly
I'll do what it takes til' I touch the sky
I'll make a wish
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway
Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won't forget all the ones that I loved
I'll take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway

Doe, It is almost the weekend, and you can make it. I love Outback bread by the way. I hope you have a wonderful weekend, and that you get pampered all day Sunday. Happy Mother's Day.
Beth

Doe:

Your weekend is almost here! You seem to be tackling the added responsibilities and challenges with real grace and energy. I'm so proud of you.

I hope the burns on DS's hands heal soon. I had the most difficult time in science classes...always squeezing a beaker too hard and crushing it or spilling something I shouldn't. I did much better with bookwork. Fainted when I had to prick my finger to draw blood for our bloodtyping exercise and threw up when faced with the disection of frogs and fetal pigs...No wonder I didn't become a nurse like my sister.

I love to hear that your son loves school and wants to be there. I hope I get a classful of students just like him someday!

-Laurie

:wave2: Hi Doe!

Sorry I missed the TGIF party. :( The DIS was down for maintenance or something when I tried to post earlier. :badpc: Can I still add a song? How about Hakuna Matata from the Lion King? That is one of my favorites. :goodvibes

Happy Mother's Day Doe! :flower3:

Yesterday = smilies for devotions, exercise and bedtime. I didn't drink enough water. I ate healthy all day and then raided the kitchen for a snack before bed. I didn't eat a lot but what I ate wasn't healthy. I forgot to take my vitamins.

Today will be better!
1. Devotions - The beauty of creation is reason to praise God the creator each day.
2. Pills - meds yes, vitamins not yet.
3. Water - on my first of 4 mugs.
4. Healthy eating - B = yogurt w/ walnuts. AM snack = banana. After that I'm really not sure.
5. Exercise - a rest day for me!
6. Bedtime - 8 hours of sleep.

I'm putting in a few hours at work. I feel so much more relaxed and confident when the office is empty of ringing phones and people stopping by. I can focus on one task at a time. Even the really difficult tasks seem easier in the quiet and calm. I've got Live365 playing Disney music. :p I'm getting a lot done.

The rest of the day I'll be shopping and prepping food for tomorrow. We're celebrating Mother's Day with my parents and grandma at my brother's home. I'm bringing all the food.

Hi Doreen!! :flower:

I hope you're having a fabulous weekend and that you're doing grgeat with your choices today! :cheer2:

Yesterday I blew off all of my objectives. The scale and my clothes reflect that choice this morning. :p No worries - I'm back to the straight and narrow today.

I did have a nice Mother's Day, marred only by my constantly itchy eyes & nose - pesky spring allergies. Antihistamines, even in small doses, put me to sleep. I've been using Zicam nasal spray to combat the itchy nose and it does seem to help some. The kids got me a card and a small frame that holds some of my daughter's artwork. It was a good day.

Today it's back to work. I can feel my depression trying its best to weigh me down. Work is just overwhelming at the moment but I continue to fight to make it to work every day and be productive. It is a battle. At this point, I'm just not allowing myself to crash. I'm sure it will all catch up with me at some point, but until then I'm going to try to push on and keep my sunny disposition. I cannot do this on my own but relying on God's strength will see me through. I'll pray often today.

The usual plan:
1. Devotions - Be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." -Hebrews 13:5 (NIV)
2. Pills - took my meds and some Tylenol. Snorted my Zicam. Will take the vitamins with dinner tonight - my bottle at work is empty & needs a refill.
3. Water - on the first of 3 20oz bottles.
4. Healthy eating - B = ham, egg, cheese croissant (25 carbs), L will be yogurt w/ walnuts, snack will be sf chocolate pudding, the neverending question of dinner has yet to be solved. :guilty:
5. Exercise - the workout bag is packed but sitting on my bed at home. I'm going to do my best to get to the health club for the weight circuit and some cardio on the treaddie. I made it there 3x last week and I'm going to try for 3x this week too.
6. Bedtime - definitely by 10 PM, if not earlier, assisted by some antihistamines.

Onward into my day, one small task at a time, using my color coded to-do list spreadsheet to help me keep my sanity. :)

EDIT: 1:30 PM
3. Water - on the third of my 3 bottles, making good progress.
4. Healthy eating - am following my plan but oh, the cravings for chocolate and caffeine/sugar-laden soda!!! :guilty: Not sure if I'll make it through the afternoon or not. I'm doing my best. I've already scarfed down my sf chocolate pudding but this craving monster has almost got me. :bitelip:

I've got to run and pick up Mickey from the beauty parlor, but I wanted to let you know I'm thinking about you, dear friend. Move on one step at a time, knowing you're in God's hands. You're a brave cookie, Doreen.

Aren't these allergies the pits! :p

Erin
