Doorway to Dreams

We went to the DTD event today on Long Island. We arrived at about noon. The place was crazy all day long. The characters and DJ were on the main level while the DTD store is on the second floor of the mall. We were asked to check in downstairs for the tour. When we went downstairs, the next available time was 5:00. I have been wanting to add on some points at BLT and thought the incentives might be good enough to persuade my wife to agree to adding on.

Well after waiting about five hours, we took the close to an hour tour and spoke with a guide. The incentives for add ons for existing members was as follows:

From 50-159 points $5 off per point and for 160+ it was $8 off per point. This was off the current member price of 112.00

My wife was a bit angry because the woman downstairs said that the incentives were better than those currently available through Disney. While this is the case for 160+ points, we could have gotten the same incentive for our planned 100 point add on through Disney. When I mentioned this to the guide, he didn't really have much to say.

The quesiton I did have for the group though was that we have a March use year. The guide told us that with our use year we would get 2009 points. I asked him how this was possible if they did not open till the summer and he said it was possible. Can anyone else confirm this is true?

Thank you in advance.

We bought in as new members at the DTD location the first week in October and did in fact get all of our '09 points. I know for a fact b/c I've got 'em banked already. Didn't think to ask why this was possible since the resort wasn't open for half the year....just took what the guide told me at face value.

Considering the price for new members is $120 right now and the price for existing members to add on will raise to $120 on 11/1/09, the deal you were offered isn't terrible. I would have definitely been upset if the people downstairs led me to believe the incentives were better though and can understand you being frustrated after being in the mall for 5 hours. It was a darned zoo there today. We went at 12:00 and left b/c it was so mobbed. Went back at 7:30 and the crowds were much much thinner....actually enjoyed ourselves a lot....got pix with the characters and the kids did the dance party for awhile.

You are right nu2dvc. The deal we were offered was not terrible at all. It was just that we came here with the hopes that the incentive would be better than what we could get by calling our guide and just adding on. We asked specifically if there was any additional incentives being offered for this event when we arrived and they all said that yes this would be special event pricing. They would not share any special details before the tour, but we thought that maybe it would apply to a 50+ add on instead of only 160+.

Glad to hear you went back later and had a great time!

iirc something about it being within 6 months to BLT opening. and it's still currently March 2009 UY ( 3.1.09 - 2.28.10 ) so they can still offer those points if they have the inventory.

We too were hoping to hear of better incentives at DTD.....we thought they may have offered something very tempting for AKV & SSR to move these 2 resorts to sell-out point. ETA: posting link to another thread on DTD - in post#10 DeeCee735 said AKV incentive was better at Garden City pre-opening event couple of weeks ago....at yesterday's event she was told $10 off per point on 100 pt AKV add-on http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2310253

( :confused3 this surprised me - - idk, thought yesterday's event would have been better offers ).

Best wishes on your add-on plans :goodvibes

Congrats to all who added on!!!! And WELCOME HOME to new members!!!

We live a few minutes from DTD and just stopped by for the Grand Opening yesterday just to get our BLT fix before our first stay there in Feb. We are done with all our add on's (we did 2 BLT add ons already) so we just figured we'd do a quick walk through of the model. No way. The greeters told us very nicely that we had to go downstairs were the characters were, put our name on a list, etc. Since we had no intention of adding on, we didn't want to waste our time or theirs. The line was still quite long at 7 pm and they only had the last tour available to book. I looked like everyone was having a great time at the party. It is nice having the DTD stores in our mall. Hopefully, when the newness dies down, we'll just be able to do a quick walk through.

"From 50-159 points $5 off per point and for 160+ it was $8 off per point. This was off the current member price of 112.00"

I bought my 200 points last week. I am a new member. I was not given this price. My husband was there on October 3, 2009 and was unable to get the incentives that they because of the problems they had. The place is off to a really bad start.

The reason you didn't get the same pricing (base of $112) is b/c you were purchasing as a new member, and the new member price went up Oct. 3rd or 4th. The current member pricing doesn't go up until 11/1.

How come your husband couldn't get the incentives they were offering as of 10/3 if he was there that day? I would complain to the district manager if their shortcomings prevented you from taking advantage of the incentives that were being offered at the time. That's not right!

Just came back from Doorway To Dreams. I was there a little after opening today, and there already were a few people waiting for tours. I told the young lady that I had sent in my check Friday, and just wanted to look at the model rooms. She said that I must have bought at BLT. I said no, OKW. She was a little perplexed, so I whispered to her "Resale," at which point she repeated that louder, to my surprise.
In any event, I looked at the model rooms, which looked just great, and even though before I had minimal interest in BLT, it does look like a nice place to stay. I especially liked that in the Studio, the kitchenette had its own room.

We were there yesterday afternoon and my family had a great time. I was impressed by the cast members there, they were super friendly despite the huge turnout that they had. They must have all been exhausted!

I don't understand the complaints about the incentives. They DID in fact have special event incentives, just at specific levels. No different than some of the incentives offered on the cruises or even WDW itself.

I am sorry, I did not mean to complain about the incentives. I just thought that the incentives for less than 160 points at BLT would be better than what was already being offered by Disney. The cast members downstairs certainly gave that impression when they encouraged me to wait around for five hours for our scheduled time by saying that they don't pack up "Mickey, Minnie and the crew for just any event. The incentives you'll be given today can't be found anywhere else."

My frustration was not really the incentives being offered, but more the idea that we waited around for no real reason.

I totally can sympathize with Paulie 656....I don't know what I would have done with myself for 5 hours in the mall. Especially with kids in tow....only to find out that the info I had been given (which led me to stay) was inaccurate. Bummer for sure.

We stopped by--it was a lot of fun. We ended up doing a small add on.

It is not a temporary display. It is built into an actual store so I would imagine as long as they are able to sell they will be there....

Out of curiosity....how long has the store in Chicago been open?
