Do you have/prefer the round or lever type?

I like the look of the lever, but the security of the round. When my kids were younger they could use their fingers to unlock the lever, but they have to hunt for something to unlock the round. You never know when you may need a few extra seconds. ;)

My previous employer moved into a new building, and we had to have the lever handles to be ADA compliant. I frequently hurt my wrists opening the doors with those levers, I really think of them as a safety hazard. And yes, I too have gotten my clothing caught on them.
Give me a knob, anytime.

We have had both round and lever. My thought is at some point I am going to be old and I may get arthritis in my hands. The lever would be much easier to handle. So if I get a choice, I choose lever.

Lever, because you can open it if your hands are full. Or if you don't have hands - hence the ADA compliance someone mentioned.

We purposely put a lever knob on the door to our laundry area. LOVE being able to open the door while holding a basket(s) full of clothes!

In doing some cosmetic changes to my house, I plan on eventually changing out all of my doorknbs to the blackish/dark bronze egg shaped kind, however until this thread, I conpletely forgot about the lever kind...now I am rethinking if some of the doors might be better served with levers.

Our dorrknbs right now are round and gold in color. I don't like gold colored fixtures -- lights, faucets, cabinet knobs.....but what I don't get is that all the doorknbs in our house are gold, while every other fixture (except in DD's bathroom, exclusing the shower and sink faucets) are flat silver. What gives?

We had a locksmith come to our house when we moved in and he had us get rid of the lever on the front door because he thought they were too easy to break into. Yeah, well the round knob is impossible to break into -- we can't use that door because it won't open. :lmao:

Anyway, I prefer round.

We built a house a year ago and after having levers in my old house (I changed ugly knobs to levers) I chose round door knobs in that blackish/dark bronze color. My doors are white and man does it look good! :thumbsup2 I was cleaning house the other day and thought how pleased I was that I went with those knobs (there are a million to choose from, who knew!)

I have one lever and that is from the garage to the mudroom so when I carry groceries in and have my hands full it is easier. :)

Simba 20, I'm betting someone probably changed the knobs out at some point and never thought about matching all that stuff. I have brushed nickel in my bathooms (faucets) and kitchen along with brushed nickel knobs and handles on the cabinets. I went with oil rubbed bronze door knobs, shower door handles (frameless shower) and lighting. I really did not want oil rubbed bronze faucets etc. though so I mixed a bit and it looks great.

Levers are easier for those with limited grip strength or little or no grasping ability to operate. We are going to be changing our knobs over to levers as we replace doors in our home.

That's the problem I have with the levers. It takes less strength to turn them, but they have to be turned more to release the latch than a knob.
I actually find a knob easier to use with my hands full too, because I always seem to drop stuff while trying to open a lever handled door because you have to turn them so far.

That's it! Brushed nickel, that's what we have, except in DD's bathroom, the light fixtures and cabinet knobs are gold (WHAT????) Kitchen, master bath, living room, bedrooms.....everything else is brushed nickel. I do like the brushed nickel/silver look, but once I saw that blackish bronze, my heart went "pitter-patter." Oh, I may check out the local Habit for Humanity re-store to see oif they have any of the dark bronze knobs in stock to start my collection. I plan soo to re-do the kitchen (cabinet knobs and sink faucet).

As, I stated before, I want to change out all the knobs (doorknobs and cabinet knobs) to the blackish bronze, and eventually get to the plumbing fixtures (sinks, shower knbs, tub faucets). We bought our house last year and could have bought a new ne with all of that in it, but we got such a steal on this house -- short sale for $139,000 versus all of the new homes in the neighborhood for $160,000-$170,000 :thumbsup2

Did you know that in England they have a door knob tax for doorknobs inside houses (not for front or back outside doors.)? That's why 99% of homes have lever handles.

Yeah, the oil rubbed bronze made my heart go pitter-patter also, lol. :thumbsup2
Mine aren't totally round--like those that look like a ball. Mine are like a ball that has been flattened somewhat. I'll try to post a pic. They are a bit vintage looking but also simple and nothing ornate. My first house was OLD and had the crystal door knobs. They were so pretty. :) My grandparents house had the white porcelain knobs.

You got a steal of a deal on that house! You can put a lot of hardware in there for 20,000 dollars!!

Have and prefer round knobs. We have gold ones but I want to redo the house with solid wood doors with glass knobs. I miss my "old" doors :(

 That's wild! Why?!
