I forgot another problem with levers. My dogs are able to open doors with them, and sometimes when they're busy pawing at the lever, they end up locking themselves in the room they're trying to get out of.

I have that problem too. Smart dogs. We had to switch out the levers for knobs!

Did you know that in England they have a door knob tax for doorknobs inside houses (not for front or back outside doors.)? That's why 99% of homes have lever handles.

I am from the UK and that is absolute nonsense. Sorry. I have a feeling that whoever told you that was making fun of you! Known as "taking the (unsuitable word for the DIS)" out of someone. In most modern English houses lever handles are preferred, but there are plenty of untaxed inside door knobs!
