I was just wondering if anyone has experience in getting a camera fixed. I have a cannon A720 IS that was working great. I went to use it yesterday & noticed that my battery door wasn't shutting all the way. Since it won't shut totally, the batteries aren't making the connection & therefore I cannot turn on the camera. I am wondering if it is worth getting it repaired or should I just purchase another camera? This camera is less than 3 years old. I know it is outdated now too..
any suggestions.. and if to purchase a new one, I really do not want to go over $200, but want something where I can capture fast moving images (such as my dogs ;) ) TIA :goodvibes

Check with Canon customer service. They have a trade-in program. You receive a refurbished camera (like new) for a reasonable replacement cost. They usually provide a choice of three models based on the model you're turning in. We have taken advantage of it twice with our P & S'.

We have a similar canon camera that did the same thing. But we noticed that it's not the door part that's broke, it's on the camera body where the door hook latches on. So we can't even have them repair it. Might have to look into the trade in option if it's still under warranty.

The trade-in program is NOT a warranty program. The first time I called for repairs on my daughter's SD 500, it was out of warranty and cheaper to take advantage of the trade-in program. One of my other daughters, did the same. We traded up to the SD780 IS. I recently called about my daughter's camera and the program is still in effect. They had three cameras available for trade-in. Obviously, the more advanced the camera the higher the trade-in charge, but not outrageous compared to purchasing a new one from a store. They are very accomodating.

thanks for the replies. I am away for the weekend now, actually in Orlando. When I get home, I will try the duct tape and see if it works. I will also contact Cannon to find out about their trade in program. :goodvibes

We had an old Nikon Coolpix for our first digital camera, when the battery door broke we did the duck tape thing for quite a while. On this Canon though, we can't seem to find a good surface to stick a big enough piece of tape on to, there are buttons and stuff in the way.

But yeah, it may have been said as a joke, but duck tape worked for us for almost a year on our first one.
