Dooney & Bourke Disney collaboration ~ part 3

Yep, they were/are so popular I don't understand why Disney doesn't just officially collaborate with LeSportsac. I think they should.

I have a LeSportsac bag that is one of my absolute favorite choices for park days, so I'd love to see that collaboration too.

But I think Disney might have burned that bridge with their Mickey doki fiasco a few years ago. Those bags were so popular, but got pulled so fast, I have to believe Disney got called on licensing issues of some sort. I don't know the whole story though.

A picture of the Mickey doki bags, obviously inspired by LeSportsac Tokidoki bags, that were released and then quickly pulled from the shelves:

I think it's a really cute bag but at the risk of sounding stupid; What was the great "Mickey doki fiasco"?

At the risk now of me getting the flames, that bag doesn't do a thing for me. If they did those I would save money:) Please don't hate me, but I will stick with the Dooneys.:upsidedow

I agree; I'll stick with my Dooneys! ::yes:: I'm patiently waiting for the 40th anniversary wallet to return. :rolleyes1

All I know is what I posted above. LeSportsac Tokidoki bags were quite popular at the time, and the Disney bags were incredibly similar.

Here's a Tokidoki bag for comparison:

Disney even called theirs Mickey doki bags. But they were not a LeSportsac product.

The bags created quite a stir when they were released, kind of like the first Disney Dooney bags. ;)

But they were quickly pulled from the shelves, in fact IIRC it was within just a few weeks of being released. Like I said, I assume it was due to licensing issues, but I don't know that for a fact.

I'm a LeSportsac fan, but I didn't really care for the Mickey doki pattern, probably because I don't particularly like the Disney Cuties. I would have liked them better if the design had used more traditional Disney characters. I wish I would have picked up a few Mickey doki's though. Like grumpycd posted, some folks are willing to pay big bucks to get them now.

LOVE this!!! I have a LeSportsac Tokidoki bag, and I would have grabbed (more than) one of these in a heartbeat!!!

so I um, well, fixed the whole "bad wristlet placement" problem. In the process, I got a new medium sketch tote and two princess wristlets- black and white; I think they'll actually make great "wallet" type bag within a bag for my larger totes. I'll post pics when I find my camera (DH borrowed it for a trip with the kids.) Turns out that the Dooney factory outlet 50ish miles away from me got a bunch of Disney dooneys yesterday, and by 5pm when I got off work they were already over 1/2 gone according to the salesperson I talked to. Totally worth the trip in rush hour traffic though- good thing my B-day is next week:lovestruc

I like the light weight material and the ease of cleaning that particular brand.:cutie:

Yep, and while I would never take one of my Dooney's to the parks on a rainy day, I have no problem grabbing my LeSportsac and enjoying a soggy day with low/no crowds.

Different bags for different situations... thus what I tell DH when he questions why I need so many different brands, styles, sizes, types, etc, etc of bags. ;)

It sounds like you did alright for yourself. Well worth the trip. Congratulations and enjoy your finds:cool1:

No flames please but I wish Disney would come out with some edgier high end handbag styles. It's nice that Disney has partnered with Dooney but Dooney has always been my least favorite handbag designer. Maybe something like B. Makowsky, Tignanello, or Michael Kors. LeSportsac would be a great parrtnership. Their bags are so versatile and they had some great design collaborations with Tokidoki and Stella McCartney.

No flames, everyone has different tastes...but I would not buy a B. Mak or Tignanello (it is owned by B. Mak) because the man skeeves me. :rolleyes1 Not a huge Michael Kors fan either.

So we got back yesterday and no Minnie Bow wristlet...

Tren-D was the only store that carried the pattern and the had both in the handbag and the tote. No wristlets and we checked everyday since we were at OKW.

Also, no 40th messengers or wallets to be found anywhere...

I have to admit that I really like the Mickeydoki pattern that was posted, though the bag itself I'm not sure about. It would be nice to have an alternate brand that was more of a "go bag" brand. I'd never take my Dooney into the park because of the weight. I have one of the Mickey plaid mini-backpacks for park days, but I'm always on the lookout for other cool patterns for a park bag.

So I am guessing (and hoping) there were 40th wristlets around :rolleyes1

Just got back from the AP sale at Disneyland. Select Dooney's were 40% off.

I'm not sure exactly what they started out with, by the time I made my way through the crowd they had a few colored sketch wristlets, lots of green and yellow letter carriers, denim erica bags in pink, balloon drawstring bags, and some pink Minnie faces domed satchels.

I think I saw a few people with balloon satchels and balloon wristlets in their shopping bags, but I headed straight to the Dooney's the minute I got in the door, and those were gone before I got to them. Darn!

The last time I went to one of the AP sales I swore I'd never do it again, but I dragged my fanny out of bed at 4am and braved the madness once again. If I ever mention going to another one, please remind me how insane they are and tell me to stay home!

Wow! what a mental picture! :scared1:

Congrats on your finds! If you don't mind sharing, how much was the medium sketch at the outlet?

We just got back on Thursday and there were plenty of 40th wristlets at WOD, TrenD and Uptown Jewelers. They even had them at the SSR gift shop :thumbsup2 I managed to see one messenger at Mouse Gears on Wednesday night but I'm sure it didn't stay there long.
