Dontyou just hate/detest......

One of the last things on my mind, been there 8 times in August and spent approx 400 days total in Orlando, apart from keeping us in our hotel room 1 morning we have not been affected by TS or Hurricanes. Even cruised while one passed but the Captain just skirted around the edge, a bit of wind and rain but we get worse in Yorkshire than anything I have experienced in Florida.
Maybe lucky, maybe we will get caught one trip but certainly don't lose sleep over it.

Wyndham was good for us, they set up camp in the convention centre, and put meals on for us.
We had a curfew imposed on us.

Disney cruise at first was cancelled then it was changed to a different port which we were unable to get to.
I was climbing the Walls :rotfl2::rotfl2: three days before I could hit the parks. Other than that I have been lucky :thumbsup2

Actually I quite like it...obviously not the destruction it causes to homes etc. but I have done 3 hurricanes now and it was quite exciting - especially when we were at the Poly on our honeymoon - they really looked after us there!

Hurricane season, there is a tropical storm brewing EMILY!!

Oh joy, I still remember Tropical Storm Fay or Kay (or whatever her name was) when we were both stopping at the Caribbean Beach Resort a few years ago Ginette. It rained constantly for a week

I hope it doesn't affect anyones holiday ::yes::

Yep I remember that too :thumbsup2 you had this strange woman approach you at the drinks fountain :rotfl2::rotfl2:

That was the most rain I had on our trip

I had never seen rain like it at WDW before, and I hope I never see it again :thumbsup2

I used to feel exactly the same Wayneg, until we went through hurricane Charlie a few years ago. Roof of house partly ripped off, pool area completely wrecked, and no power for 10 days! Always wondered what it would be like to go through a major hurricane, and now I know, it's not very nice....
That said, apart from stormy weather on occasions, we too have spent something in the region of 44 weeks in the Orlando area (all in July/August), and only had one serious problem ;)

Wow we must've been lucky! We were also there for that year and our house and electricity were fine, and so was most places! I saw a few trees fallen down here and there, but maybe some places were worse affected than others.

This isn't a major worry for me currently, as they are so well prepared and informative out there. However, when I'm out there and if a tropical storm is on the way I can hinder a guess that I will not be as cool as a cucumber :scared1:

I would never want to feel the full force of a bad storm but you can't worry about getting caught up in one, the chances are so small there is no point worrying about it, you have one problem in 44 weeks, we had no major problem in about 60 weeks over there.
Exactly same as Ash clouds, Pilot strikes, Baggage handler strikes, terrorism etc if we worried about it all we wouldn't go anywhere, the chances of any of these happening are tiny.

Yes, some areas were badly affected, down Ponsiania (I never can spell that!), the trees were down all over the place, and guess where all the power lines are! Yes, right next to the trees! We left Florida 10 days after the hurricane hit, and the house was still powerless. Our friends were in a condo off 192, and all that happened was their electricity flickered momentarily. I say friends, after they didn't bother to make any offers of help with anything, once they knew the pickle we were in, I struggled to speak to them after that!!! Anyway, it was fate, it led us to our first stay at Fort Wilderness, and that was FANTASTIC!

Absolutely!:)

We were In Miami During hurricane Andrew when it hit and that was rather scary!

The hotel was great, got everybody into the reception and lower levels, put food and entertainment on for us, they were amazing.

The aftermath is almost so hard to explain. The beach at the hotel was literally washed away. Where there was maybe 30 ft of beach until you reached the ocean there was now maybe 10ft at the most.

When we returned the following year they were "rebuilding" the beach buy pumping sand in from sandbanks further out in the ocean, which is an amazing sight, until you get stung by a portugese man o war hehe.

I think to be honest, I'd rather be in a hotel during a hurricane (apart from maybe in a log cabin at Fort Wilderness!:rotfl:) as when you're in a house, you do feel a little on your own....
Fingers crossed it's a quiet hurricane season for all this year!:cool2:
