Don't worry, the INTERNET is here!

:scratchin Interesting timing for this thread. Yesterday at work my hard-drive crashed; the IT department swept in like a crisis-response team with a new one, which took about 2 hours. During that time there was literally NOTHING I could do - not one single function of my job (other than off-site meetings, and I had none yesterday) can be performed without access to our local servers, e-mail and the web. Scary in a way. I started my career in a jr. position in this same industry almost 30 years ago. Back then I accomplished my whole scope with a rotary-dial phone and a yellow legal pad. :p

Oh and don't even mention YouTube and the mine raft videos! Watching other people play video games instead of playing your own game. I still prefer a good old board game.

Aw, that's nothing new! Back in the 80's, I used to go down to the Arcade to watch other people play video games. There's just something really nice about watching someone who can actually play, versus all the stress of trying to play it yourself. Plus, it was free. :)

The only difference these days is that kids don't have to hang over some stranger's shoulder in an arcade to watch people play.

I really like how popular board games and card games have become, btw. There's several stores with huge selections nearby, board game cafes, trivia nights at the local pubs, and we have regular game nights with our friends. Some of the new games are terrific!

Edited to add: This is our latest obsession:

writing using actual cursive no less! (as I type to a chat board, lol :o)

The kids here all still learn cursive, starting in Grade 3. It's a big part of my tutoring.

Though, like most of the rest of us, I expect they give it up as soon as they can.

I used to do genealogy at the Mid-Atlantic National Archives and the Philadelphia City Archives before the internet was widespread. I looked through hours and hours worth of microfilm looking for records, and at the city archives they used to let you look through the actual records and ledgers. That had a sense of discovery when you came across something from your family that is missing in the world of the internet when all you do is click buttons.
