Don't understand this (car rental)

How come if you see a car rental price for 11.95 a day, and one for 14.95 a day, the 11.95 a day rate comes out more money in the end. That is just crazy. I have been looking for a deal for May 12-16. The lowest I can find is around 95.00. If any of you have some codes I can use, please let me know. I usually am pretty good about finding these, but am having some issues in our lives and just do not have the time to deal with it. I am hoping the closer we get to the date, the better the price will be. Thanks guys.

Are you renting from the same company? Same pickup and return times? Are you comparing each individual cost? Those factors should explain why you're getting the odd price differences.

If you are looking at Hotwire they sometimes add additional fees. Therefore their $11.95 could be more expensive. Also, some sites may quote rates that are from $11.95 therefore making the possibility of it being more expensive.

$95 is not too bad a rate. I did find a rate of $71.94 for an economy but it has to be for a rental of four days or more (e.g. 4 hours 30 mins. minimum) as it is a weekly rate.

So far I have found a compact for $83 for a week including taxes and fees ( pick up Sun am and drop off Sat pm ) at the end of May/beginning of June using Costco codes, and it doesn't even include a Saturday night keep, which will generally help. When I started looking about a month ago there was nothing less than about $160. Lately I have been finding a lower rate about every other day.

You do have to be persistant and check often, I have seen base rates ( before discounts ) change 3 times in one day.
