Don't understand split stays

I did it (only) because I could only afford 2 nights at a deluxe--my first time ever staying at a deluxe! The other 4 days were at a value.

I love split stays. I usually do a value then deluxe. I could never afford a deluxe the whole time. In the past I've done: Pop to BCV (renting), Pop to Swan, Pop to Dolphin, and BCV (renting) to Dolphin. Usually it was 1 or 2 nights at Pop before switching.

My next trip is in late September, but with my dates and the summer discount I have to do the value resort second. It's going to be YC (4 nights), then AoA LM (3 nights). I'm a tiny bit nervous about transferring to a value, instead of the other way around, but I'm sure it will be fine.

Also, Disney is so good about transferring the luggage. I never unpack anyway, so it's really easy. I just go to the park in the morning and my luggage arrives at the new hotel in the afternoon. I don't do the dining plan and I buy my park pass separately, so those things don't matter to me either.

We're staying one night before a 4 day cruise at AK Jambo and then 3 nights after at BCV. So excited because I want to see AKL, but dont want to commit to a long stay there - yet!

Not knocking anyone, at all, for doing a split stay. But, I don't understand it. I would think that you'd want to pick your favorite resort and stay put. Not pack up and change in the middle of the vacation. Just out of curiosity - what's the appeal?

....but it's hard to pick just one favorite resort! If I can't decide, then I split.. and usually I can't decide. I honestly don't mind packing and unpacking.. it doesn't take but a few minutes. It's not like it's your initial packing where you are still deciding what to pack.. Everything you need is already with you and all you have to do is just throw it back in the suitcase.
Done! It's not painful at all..

I'm with you. I do understand wanting to see and try all the resorts. But more than that, when we get to a resort we like to move in and make it home so we aren't living out of the suitcases. We put our clothes in the dressers, hang things up on the hangers, put toiletries on the shelves, etc. I just cannot imagine unpacking, repacking, and then repeating in only a few days, and then again when it's time to go home. Just too much work for me. That said, our trips are only one week long, so I would truly be in each resort for just a few days. If I had the luxury of vacationing at Disney for 10-14 days, I might consider a split stay since I wouldn't feel like I was packing up again, and again, and again, after just a few days.

We almost always do split stays. We usually have most of our trip in a Deluxe but on our arrival night that seems like a waste since we tend to get in around 7pm. Even if we stay in a moderate with a package deal we usually don't need the extra nights worth of package so split stay helps out then. We tend to pack pretty light and keep our things in suitcases after a thread on the disboards about the nasty things people find and/or store in the dresser drawers Our Fall trip is most likely Pop, Poly, and Hard Rock Hotel Club level. If we end up not needing DME then we will probably switch and do Shades of Green and Hard Rock Club Level. Right now the rental car prices are ridiculous because we are just shy of a week but another trip like this the rental car prices dropped dramatically about 6 weeks out so hoping. The only down side to hopping is if you end up homeless for part of a day when you wanted to spend time at the resort but we've always gotten lucky on that and had our room ready.

Let me start off by saying I really don't like to do split stay but sometimes you have to. One time we did three resorts because we went down a day earlier so we stayed at one of the All star resorts because it was last minute and we needed two rooms. Then we moved to Boardwalk Inn because my husband had a 6 day conference to go to. Then after his conference we went to fort wilderness cabins for our family vacation.

This time we decide to do another split stay.
We are staying at fort wilderness cabin because at first there were going to be 6 of us. I had my sister back out, so then I asked my son who is in the Air Force if he want to go, then he had to back out.
So now there wil only be 5 of us for the first 7 days of our vacation, then my daughter' friend will be flying home.

My daughter was able to get another 4 days off from working, making it a total of 16 days off. We decide that when her friend leaves we will wash clothes and move to a smaller resort .

So we will go to Caribbean beach, save money and add 4 more nights to the 5 nights we had left.
So we are able to save money by moving and the total cost to add 4 more nights was another $50 each. Plus side is we get to try out a resort we have never been to.
So I would say most people do split stay because they like to try out new resorts or because they need to..

Having done the parks and attractions many many times, enjoying the resorts is the most important part of the trip for us. A strategic packing job takes care of a lot of the hassle. For example, I only unpack the clothes that I need for a particular leg of the trip and put those dirty clothes in a duffle bag for quick resort transfer packing.
Another reason is to minimize transportation hassles ... when we stay at an Epcot area resort, we choose to go to those parks primarily and can walk to Epcot and DHS so there are no bus issues. Same with MK area ... if you stay close to the park you are planning on visiting, it minimizes travel times.

This exactly! For example, we stayed 3 nights in the Contemporary because we wanted to experience the hotel and the theme park view. But we prefer a villa/suite/cabin with a full kitchen, two TVs, etc. So we moved to OKW for a week after. While at the Contemporary we concentrated on MK and monorail resorts. One day we took the monorail to Epcot.

It was a great experience and we would do it again.

we've done many split stays, and love them.

our next trip we're doing mommy/daughter (while dh/ds go fishing in the keys) for the first part of the trip, and staying in the Poly (dd's choice). Then when dh and ds join us, we're going over to the BCV.

I love having a 1 bed villa for the 2nd part of our trip, for laundry and having more space to relax in the room.

We'll also do tons of MK while at the Poly, (and walk over to TTC for Epcot once), then do Epcot and DHS at BVC. Gotta fit in AK somewhere in there.

My 2 favorite things about Disney are being near MK/castle view, and I also love, love, love walking around the countries in Epcot late at night, then strolling back to our villa. I like getting both of those things in my trip.

I love split stays. We do them every trip and try to stay at new places whenever we can. It makes the trip feel longer and we can never decide on just one hotel.

Disney makes it so easy that I never felt like I was losing vacation time switching rooms. Just take your stuff down and they'll take it to your next room for you while you're at the parks.

We love split stays when we arrive on a Friday/Saturday as these are usually the two more expensive days when booking a resort reservation. We'll do a Value until Sunday and then we'll check-in to our other (usually AKL) resort. Last month we did AoA/AKL split and had a blast...as always.
