Don't trust Toy Story Mania wait times!

Just got back from a 10 day trip.

One day TSM was posted at 60 minutes. We decided to give it a try and the line was only a little way back from Mr. Potato Head and only took 20 minutes.

Wednesday we were back in the morning. The posted wait was 60, but the line was outside so we got fast passes. An hour or so later we came back and it was listed as 50, but we went in and the line was only up to Mr. Potato Head. That time it took, at max, 10 minutes.

It made us suspicious of Soarin's waits, and we almost tried it at a 60 minute wait, but it's harder to judge that line because it's so wide and we chickened out.

Yup.

This has been the exact subject of several recent threads.

I agree. We were just there a week and a half ago and about 9:30 the wait time was posted at 120 minutes. We have waited in an hour long TSM line when the line was winding way out past the entrance and that day there wasn't anyone even waiting outside. My ds11 and I walked in and it was moving fast and half the wait area was empty. My son timed it on his phone: 12 minutes to the point of boarding. When we walked outside when we were done, he told them that the time was off by a 0 but it was never changed. With it being only 2 of us that day, we were able to go to the right just past the area that they take fast passes and avoid the line on the stairs. However, I think that only added about 5 minutes wait time to those guests with more than 2 people.

Hahaha this is something I would totally do! Your kid needs a big high five or at least a dance in his honor :dancer:

On Wednesday at Splash Mountain, the posted wait was 60 minutes. It ended up being about 20.

We were carrying the red card that lets them figure out the wait time. I started talking with the family right behind us and they had one too. :scared1:

That's a well-oiled machine of wait time estimation. :)

Disney overestimates their times (especially at park open and close) rather than underestimating them and having a lot of cranky customers.

I think so too. We asked before getting in line if the posted wait time was accurate and of course they said the 120 minute posted time was indeed correct. Even though they said it was accurate, I really didn't think so with not a single person in sight of the entrance to standy by. Usually with over 100 minute waits the line snakes back and forth outside.

.....UNDER-Promise. OVER-Perform.

.....

I totally agree with the above experiences. We just returned last night from a trip where we brought a 14 year old relative to WDW for her first visit. Since we were checking out yesterday we had more to do and didn't make rope drop. We got to TSM at 9:30 and the standby time was 30 minutes. We were on the ride in less than 20. As mentioned above, Disney does ascribe to the adage "under promise and over perform". We were very pleased.

I am super glad to hear this.

I always arrive the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and while that day is still busy, I don't remember waiting more than 45 minutes for any of the popular rides. By Monday, it is way down.

But next year, I will be there this week with a whole entire group, including 4 teenagers. I didn't know what to expect, but I figured it would be busy with school being out.

I had been checking UG daily to see what the ride wait times were like during certain times of the day. It seemed good in the morning, but by evening it was surprising some of the wait times. One was 120 minutes for TSM. I am glad to see it may not be as bad as I expected.

Now, I am sure the weather will still be hot; nothing will change that.

But the reports of this have been much more common lately. Couple that witht the comment from a CM posted in another thread that Disney was experimenting with something in this regard......

I think they're trying to nudge people into the FP line (appointment riding) to to experiment with how far they can push that system before rolling it into FP+.

I don't think it necessarily is just because they are encouraging Fast Pass/reservation use for attractions like TSMM and Soarin', it's likely more a product of the horrible hourly capacity that both of these attractions have. From an operational standpoint, it's healthier for high capacity attractions to absorb the masses.

60 minutes in a fast moving line (like Star Tours or ToT) versus 60 minutes in a slow moving line result in two very different guest satisfcation levels.

For the life of me, I can't imagine how Tokyo Disney Sea is going to deal with the masses for their TSMM. I would've figured they would've added another track to double capacity.
