Don't touch that! I need a picture first! TR - **NEW 04/17 PTR IS UP

We left off with us ending our evening EMH at Epcot and were now on our last day of the trip. The time has to come when a Disney trip must end. It's always a sad occasion and the whole day is spent trying to absorb as much of the Disney magic as possible. This morning I had made an ADR for Donald's Safari breakfast for 8:30am to get us in through the gates a bit earlier. The plan was not to actually go eat there but to get in the park early. I know, I know. Bad Disney karma. But my plan was foiled anyway.

We slept in a bit longer as neither of us could drag our butt out of bed. Being out late the night before and being on the last day of a busy Disney trip was finally taking it's toll on our bodies. We had packed up everything the night before as we wouldn't have a chance to go back to the room before check out time at 11am. Everything was thrown into our tiny little Toyota Yaris and we were rolling up to the AK parking just passed 8:30am - already late for our ADR.

I knew they would still let us in even though we were running late. The only thing I forgot was the opening show that happens 15 minutes before the park opens to everyone. We get to the front gates and I explain to the CM that we are already late for our ADR and need to get in ASAP. The CM goes to talk to another CM and then comes back to tell us that they can't let us in right now because the opening show is about to start. My plan totally backfired. Oh well. No early entry for us. That'll teach me for messing around with the Disney system!

We watched the opening show

And then headed to Kilmanjaro Safari with the masses

We got on the ride right at 9am and were one of the first trucks to get out onto the savannah. The animals were pretty active and close to the track on this lovely morning.

I would love to go on that new tour Wild Africa Trek just to be able to go beyond the boundaries the ride has. I can't justify the $130 price tag though. Maybe it's the lunch they serve along with the tour?

After our safari, we went over to FOTLK to catch the first show

Again, and I know I've said this lots of times before, I wish I had a better camera for low light situations. I want to be able to capture this show in all it's wonderfulness. It's honestly my favourite live broadway style show in WDW. Speaking of my camera, I need a new one. When I got back from Vegas, I noticed when I shook the camera something rattles inside. I guess it's from dropping it one too many times. Can anyone recommend a point and shoot camera? I'm going to need to get one before my next trip!

I forced Bubba to ride Dinosaur with me again.

I absolutely love this ride photo.

I know it's super blurry but you can kinda make out me giving a thumbs up with a huge smile on my face while Bubba is burying her head on my shoulder. I just love how freaked out she gets on this ride. Yes, I am the evil little sister.

This being our last day, we didn't spend much time in AK. I really regret not staying there longer because there's lots of stuff I want to visit next time I'm there. I had left this afternoon open to do whatever we may have missed or wanted to revisit this trip. Bubba wanted to go back to DHS to draw some more so we hopped in the car and were there in no time.

2vj75uv.jpg

By this time we were getting a bit hungry so we devoured the School Bread we had bought the night prior.

126epu8.jpg

We tried to get on TSM again but the wait was already up to 60 min or something crazy like that so we just went to drawing classes. Please forgive me but my memory is very vague of anything else we did that day at DHS. I know based on my pictures that around 2pm we headed towards GF for our Afternoon Tea. The earliest ADR I could get was at 3:40pm. We needed to leave at 4:30pm to get to the airport in time for our flight. This didn't leave us much time for our tea. We would have to rush through tea in order to have any hope of being on the road at 4:30pm. We decided we'd try to see if they could get us in any earlier. Our fingers and toes were crossed, which made walking very difficult, as we walked into the GF lobby.

Continued in next post....

I sweetly explained our situation and asked, okay BEGGED, to get our tea for an earlier time. The CM kindly explained they would do their best and gave us a beeper. We took a seat in the lobby and munched on Bubba's candy apple she bought the night before.

Within 10 minutes, the beeper went off. I was shocked how quickly they were able to accommodate us. I guess someone didn't show up! So at 2:30pm we were seated for our Afternoon Tea.

The menu was pretty extensive. I never knew there were so many different types of tea to choose from. Eventually I decided on the Buckingham Palace with Mad Hatter tea. Sounds like good times doesn't it?

Once we ordered, our server brought out teacups plus some other tools I had never seen before.

I never knew these strainers existed for tea! All this time I could be preventing bits of tea leaves getting into my teacup. It all felt very civilized.

Without much wait, we got our tea sandwiches.

vga6g.jpg

Even I needed to slap my hand for touching these before I took a picture! Sadly I can't remember what each one was but I know there was a curry flavour, pear and something, and obviously salmon. All were very good and some I would never consider making a sandwich out of!

Then came our second course of tarts and scones with jam.

r8t1q9.jpg

Bubba took over the camera at one point and we started to get very giddy. Must have been something they put in the tea because Bubba could not take a decent picture of me. I tried to keep a "civilized" smile but just could not do it!

16blzes.jpg

2z823wj.jpg

Honestly Bubba can't you center me in the photo??

xgcpyu.jpg

There we go!

I then turned the camera on Bubba. At least I am capable of taking proper pictures

34e7rc7.jpg

For our last course we got to choose between a caddy of a la carte treats or strawberries and cream. I chose the strawberries while Bubba chose to choose from the caddy.

The whole experience took about an hour. Everything was delicious and fresh with extreme attention to detail. I am very glad to have tried this. I can see it being hard to fit into a busy itinerary since it occurs in the afternoon when an afternoon nap or break in the pool is usually scheduled. I wouldn't recommend it for small children unless they are doing the tea with a princess. The Afternoon Tea is better for adults. I didn't see one child while we were there which did not surprise me. I could see kids having a hard time sitting through this kind of civilized dining experience. If you're looking for something new to experience in WDW, I'd highly recommend this! It was a bit pricey but the service and food is top notch.

We still had a little time before we had to head to the airport so we took a walk around the GF. Bubba found a nice spot behind one of the GF buildings facing the lake. We sat down and watched monorails go by and listened to boats sound their horns as they took guests back and forth to MK for another fun filled day. Oh how we wished we could just spend a few more hours to take in that last bit of Disney magic.

But sadly our time had come to go home. We dragged our feet back to the car and said goodbye to WDW until next time, which that day, I didn't know when I'd be back. It had been a great trip, seeing and trying new things. Although there were bumps along the way, we still managed to have a magical day!

Now to announce my next trip! Since I probably won't do a PTR for this trip, I will lay down all the details here.

In less than 3 months, I'm going back! At first I didn't know who would be able to go with me because Bubba already went back in February. She won't be able to come with me this time because of work and finances. So I had to find someone else. Yes, my mom was always a good candidate but I've been to Disney with her a few times over the last couple years. I was looking to see Disney through a new pair of eyes. When I worked as a travel agent, I met a girl (AKA Stitch since she loves him) around the same age as me who booked a couple trips to Disney. I found we really got along well and she might be the perfect person to try and plan a trip with. When I moved to my current job, I decided to reconnect with her since I wouldn't be seeing her anymore now that I wasn't a travel agent. Stitch was ecstatic at the idea so without much trouble, I had a new buddy to go to WDW with!

We have booked July 28th-August 4th at CSR in a standard room. We chose CSR because when I stayed there in 2009 for 3 nights, I hardly got to see the resort and enjoy my time there. Stitch was happy with the decision too because she was there last summer 1 week out of the 2 weeks and really liked the place. You can't beat the queen size beds!

I've already reserved a car with Enterprise. I saw a really good rate and jumped on it. We can still cancel it if we decide not to spend the extra money. I know Disney transportation is wonderful but whenever I think about the multiple bus stops around CSR and the summer crowds, I start getting panic attacks. I'm willing to spend a bit more for convenience. Plus, we have some ADRs that will have us resort hopping or even theme park hopping. It'll just be easier that way. I've convinced myself, so there!

I will have a 7-day Park hopper with Waterpark fun and more. This was the only ticket option offered with my discount. But I'll take it since it's less than the cost of a 7-day base ticket. I don't know if we'll do any waterparks since Stitch will only be getting a park hopper. I don't expect her to spend the extra money to go to the waterparks which, for the meantime, we're not planning on going to.

All food will be OOP. Now with my AP expired, I no longer have my TIW discount either. I figure it's not a big deal since this way we won't have dessert forced down our throats to get our moneys worth. I've already done the whole waking up at 6am to get our ADRs so I'll lay them down in a lovely list format.

Raglan Road
California Grill
Le Cellier
O'hana
Crystal Palace
Whispering Canyon Cafe
Sci-Fi Dine in
Via Napoli
Chef Mickey's
Boma

We might not keep them all but there are a few I definitely want Stitch to try.

That's about it for trip plans for now. Thank you all for following along on my Oct TR. I am really looking forward to sharing a trip to WDW with a new friend in July. I hope you will all join me for that TR this summer, premiering August 2011. Cheers!

As always, great trip reports, Jen!!!

I got back from WDW about 4 weeks ago and it's been so busy with work, etc, since then that I didn't get a chance to comment.

My feelings about Vegas are in 100% agreement with yours!!! Whoever equated it with our national zoo, was so right!!! LOL!!

The national parks, both in the US and Canada, to me are like heaven on Earth. Just breathtaking. I used to go to a couple every summer, but it's been awhile. It's SO cool to be able to stay overnight at them and stay in the lodges or cabins run by the Parks!! You can take it all in then! Just to take one breath of fresh National Park air this weekend would be heaven! Glad you enjoyed that part!

I didn't have a good experience with Dollar where I rented from one of the hotels outside the DTD area either a couple of years ago and I had to try a couple of different cars before I got one where parts weren't falling off! I always use Alamo or National from the Dolphin with special coupons and codes.

Just wanted to comment on what you said about wishing you could do the Wild African Trek at AK. I did it the first weekend in March. OMIGOSH!!! It was quite an experience. I just loved it and got tons of terrific photos. Wish I had time to post a report, but I don't right now. The cost is now $189.00, or at least it was when I went. It went up on Feb. 26 and they were talking about increasing it to something like $249, which is way too high. You do get a free photopass CD with the Trek and you can add all your other photos to the CD from your trip as well. So, it is a $99 value (price if you had preordered the PP CD) or $149, depending on how you look at it. They serve a breakfast or lunch "snack" and are careful to say it is not a meal. There was quite a bit of food and it took the place lunch for me.

And, the Gardenview Tea is one of my very favorite things to do on every trip!!! It's so peaceful. I try to schedule it on an afternoon where I have plenty of time to relax, but of course I tend to still fight hurrying! I usually get the Buckingham Tea, too, and I LOVE the Harmony tea. I want to order some by mail. It's kind of a sweet, spicy herbal tea. I feel nurtured when I leave there.

Oh, I was going to mention, when I got back, my impressions of the "Inspiration Through Walt's Eyes" tour. I was not impressed. It was advertised as going to 3 parks. It left from outside Guest Relations outside Epcot and bussed to the Studios, to MK, and to one of the warehouses. Did not even go into Epcot. I thought it could have been a lot better, but maybe it will evolve.

Glad you have another trip planned in July!!! Sounds like fun. I love Coronado Springs! Beds are so comfortable and it's a very pretty resort. Kind of between a moderate and deluxe resort in feel. My next trip is the last week of Oct.

Again great job!

Very nice last day activities! You didn't take any pictures of your Animation Academy drawings?

You're going back already? Lucky bum! Your ADR list looks great.

Your Vegas trip looked like fun. I love those pictures of the Grand Canyon. Someday, I've really got to go see it.

I'm sad to see your TR come to an end, but your new trip sounds really fun. I'll be looking for the TR in August. :)

It's sad the trip is over but fun that another trip is coming soon!!

I got the exact same thing at the tea! I've done the tea once with friends and another time with my mom. Both times we went there were kids at it but they sat very proper and enjoyed it! There was a baby shower group there the last time we went so a few kids were there too and were very well behaved!

You two really monopolized some great stuff on your last day!! Tea is wonderful, and your'e right, really not for kids unless they are very patient and well-behaved.

I"m so glad you found a good companion for your next trip! It sounds like you 2 are going to get along great- I"m anxious to read your TR in the summer! You could name it something like "Like... They're Going With Strangers?!" :lmao::lmao:

I've not had any experience with Enterprise, but, I would have EVERYTHING IN WRITING!! Everything!!

As always, great trip reports, Jen!!!

Thank you! The readers are what keep me going so thank you for following along.

I got back from WDW about 4 weeks ago and it's been so busy with work, etc, since then that I didn't get a chance to comment.

I know that feeling. Only recently did I find time to actually sit down and finish up this TR. I've been meaning to write that last installment for over a month!

My feelings about Vegas are in 100% agreement with yours!!! Whoever equated it with our national zoo, was so right!!! LOL!!

That would be the quick witted Liesa. I'm glad we see eye to eye on Vegas :thumbsup2

I've never really been camping so the idea of staying out in the remoteness of the Grand Canyon sounds a bit scary. I guess if you're inside a cabin it would be okay. I wouldn't be able to handle outside in a tent though

I didn't have a good experience with Dollar where I rented from one of the hotels outside the DTD area either a couple of years ago and I had to try a couple of different cars before I got one where parts weren't falling off! I always use Alamo or National from the Dolphin with special coupons and codes.

I'm definitely axing Dollar from my car rental companies list. That's now two strikes against them. I guess all companies have their hiccups but wow. This experience with Dollar takes the cake. I've always had good experience with Hertz. No complaints there! I was going to look at Alamo as an option but Bubba has used Enterprise a couple times in the past and has had good experiences with them. Let's hope those experiences pass on to me.

There was quite a bit of food and it took the place lunch for me.

I hope you can find time to write a TR! I'd love to see pictures from this tour. Raising the cost to $249? That's insane. I love Disney and all but come on. They are really pushing it now. I know the Photopass CD is included, which is a nice perk but if you take that out of the total price, it still leaves the cost of the tour at around $100 each. It's the same with the Disney cruise line. I was hoping the Canada & New England cruises were going to finally be reasonably priced but nope. Once again, Disney has nearly priced themselves out of the market.

That Harmony tea sounds yummy. I can't remember if they use a specific brand of tea or if everything is made by combining tea leaves and such :confused3 It's definitely a nice break from the go,go,go of the trip.

Sorry to hear the tour wasn't all that great. Did they tell you interesting things at least?

Glad you have another trip planned in July!!! Sounds like fun. I love Coronado Springs! Beds are so comfortable and it's a very pretty resort. Kind of between a moderate and deluxe resort in feel. My next trip is the last week of Oct.

I am really looking forward to it.... you have no idea! I'm happy to hear you'll be going back as well. I assume you'll be attending MNSSHP?

Again great job!

Thanks again :goodvibes

Very nice last day activities! You didn't take any pictures of your Animation Academy drawings?

Not at the time. I could take pictures now and post them but... I'll get to it eventually... if you really would like to see them.

You're going back already? Lucky bum! Your ADR list looks great.

You know me. I can't stay away from that place for more than a year. You're planning on going back in 2012 right?

Your Vegas trip looked like fun. I love those pictures of the Grand Canyon. Someday, I've really got to go see it.

Yes you do. It doesn't seem real when you are there. Just it's sheer size is awe inspiring.

I'm sad to see your TR come to an end, but your new trip sounds really fun. I'll be looking for the TR in August. :)

I'm sad to end it as well. I like being to able to relive my trips. Now I'll have to live vicariously through others. At least I'll be able to keep up with other TRs better now!

It's sad the trip is over but fun that another trip is coming soon!!

It's very exciting!

I got the exact same thing at the tea! I've done the tea once with friends and another time with my mom. Both times we went there were kids at it but they sat very proper and enjoyed it! There was a baby shower group there the last time we went so a few kids were there too and were very well behaved!

I guess you really need to know if the kids will be able to do this sort of thing. I'm glad the time you were there the kids were well behaved or else it could've been a very stressful time.

You two really monopolized some great stuff on your last day!! Tea is wonderful, and your'e right, really not for kids unless they are very patient and well-behaved.

I guess that's why they have the princess one. Keeps the kids more engaged but for twice the price!

I"m so glad you found a good companion for your next trip! It sounds like you 2 are going to get along great- I"m anxious to read your TR in the summer! You could name it something like "Like... They're Going With Strangers?!" :lmao::lmao:

:rotfl2: Oh my gosh, that's so true! Well, we've been talking and getting together now and then. Probably much like you and maroo did.

I've not had any experience with Enterprise, but, I would have EVERYTHING IN WRITING!! Everything!!

Don't you worry, I will! The ridiculous thing is, now that I think about it, is that I had the piece of paper with my reservation on it but Jane didn't even look at it. She just immediately said they didn't have that kind of car for me. I was so scammed. Well, next time I will be prepared. I will fight to the death!

I've been away from the boards for a couple of weeks, and missed responding to your Vegas pics and stories. Loved them!

Though, you might be the first person I know who doesn't like whipped cream on sundaes. To me, the whipped cream is mandatory.

I've been away from the boards for a couple of weeks, and missed responding to your Vegas pics and stories. Loved them!

That makes two of us. I felt like I hadn't been on here frequently enough. Finally this week I've had time to catch up on everything. I'm glad you liked the Vegas stuff.

Though, you might be the first person I know who doesn't like whipped cream on sundaes. To me, the whipped cream is mandatory.

I know I'm weird like that. Must be a texture thing :confused3

great tr! subscribing!

:welcome: Better late then never :goodvibes

great trip report..subscribing

just read up to the part where you waited for spectromagic. I think the reason why it was so crowded is because there are limited viewings of spectro and wishes the closer you get to halloween due to all the MNSSHP they have at the MK.

Looks like it was an enjoyable last day. I was starting to get depressed looking at the pictures of MK across the lagoon and thinking about what it's like to leave.

Good thing we'll have another TR to look forward to! popcorn::

Jen, I'm like you.....I don't like whipped cream either and always order sundaes, etc. with no whipped cream!!! I just don't think it adds anything and dilutes the texture of the ice cream, etc.

Jen, I'm so behind! Sorry!

Ok, Las Vegas kind of sounded like more trouble than it was worth, lol!:lmao: What was up with the psycho car lady?? Man, I'd have popped a blood vessel or something!

Bummer about the MGM rooms. Those shower heads were just weird too.

Oh, I'm SO glad you enjoyed Ka!! We really did, it had a story line which for some Cirque shows I can't decipher at all!

Love love love your Grand Canyon pics! Did you and Bubba walk out on that crazy glass platform?? No way could you have paid me to do that, no way sister! That stuff is for daredevils.

Now on to your Disney updates! Is it wrong that laughed out loud when you said that your secret plan to get into AK backfired?;) I laughed because that's the kind of luck I usually have.

Great safari pics! Um, I think this rhino may be hung over, he appears to be vomiting all over the place!
23h13t4.jpg

Ugh, that Dinosaur ride is brutal! It feels like I've had my intestines jarred and jiggled! Yet I continue to ride it. Bubba looks terrified though! And I love your thumbs up!:thumbsup2

I love the drawing at Animation Academy! It's so cool. Did you know that you can ask the animator conducting the class to keep his/her drawing?? A free souvenir! How often does THAT happen at Disney?

Glad you ladies made it to the GF for tea. That is so on my list of things to do for next trip. I love tea! How nice too that they were able to seat you early. This is a really nice pic of you Jen, at least Bubba was able to get one good one!
xgcpyu.jpg

Alrighty, I think I'm caught up. I think. Wait, you mentioned your upcoming trip with that total stranger, right? Just kidding! I hope you have a great time, it sounds like it'll be fun to reconnect with your friend. And of course I will most certainly be looking out for that TR! Are you a PTR at all??

just read up to the part where you waited for spectromagic. I think the reason why it was so crowded is because there are limited viewings of spectro and wishes the closer you get to halloween due to all the MNSSHP they have at the MK.

Darn crowds! But yes, you are probably right

I forgot to ask you how Bubba was - has she been able to get her tooth looked at?

She got her tooth fixed a week ago today. She said it was the most painful experience she's ever had to endure :scared1: I know exactly what she went through though because I had the same thing done a few years ago. Apparently it was so infected that they couldn't finish the whole thing. She has to go back (not sure when) to complete the root canal. I think the worst part is over though. At least she's not in pain anymore. Thanks for asking :goodvibes

Looks like it was an enjoyable last day. I was starting to get depressed looking at the pictures of MK across the lagoon and thinking about what it's like to leave.

I hate when trips come to an end. You just want to superglue your bum to the ground so you never have to leave or "accidently" miss the ME back to the airport :lmao: It definitely is a depressing moment.

Good thing we'll have another TR to look forward to! popcorn::

Most definitely! I can't wait to go back in July. I've got a case of severe WDW withdrawl.

Jen, I'm like you.....I don't like whipped cream either and always order sundaes, etc. with no whipped cream!!! I just don't think it adds anything and dilutes the texture of the ice cream, etc.

Yay! I'm not the only one. It's only recently I've been like that. Same goes when they put whipped cream on cheesecake. It just messes with the textures. Maybe I don't like whipped cream all together? Because I'm trying to think of something I actually like it on but can't come up with anything! :rotfl:

Jen, I'm so behind! Sorry!

That's okay! As long as you are catching up now I'll forgive you :p

Ok, Las Vegas kind of sounded like more trouble than it was worth, lol!:lmao: What was up with the psycho car lady?? Man, I'd have popped a blood vessel or something!

Vegas is always trouble. But I'm suprised how well composed I kept myself. Bubba didn't even have to intervene when normally she's the one to get all flustered. That woman was ridiculous. Just the way she acted like nothing phased her and she didn't care we were getting upset. At least show some empathy or something!

Bummer about the MGM rooms. Those shower heads were just weird too.

The beds were the best part. It's definitely not Disney standard though. Like I said, it's leaning more to a Value but with more fancy decoration to hide the flaws.

Oh, I'm SO glad you enjoyed Ka!! We really did, it had a story line which for some Cirque shows I can't decipher at all!

Sometimes it's better not to try and figure out the story and just watch the crazy acrobatics going on.

Love love love your Grand Canyon pics! Did you and Bubba walk out on that crazy glass platform?? No way could you have paid me to do that, no way sister! That stuff is for daredevils.

It completely slipped my mind when we were there. I didn't see the glass floor along where we walked. Oh well. I wouldn't have gone out on it either!! It took all my courage just to stand near the edge to get those pictures.

Now on to your Disney updates! Is it wrong that laughed out loud when you said that your secret plan to get into AK backfired?;) I laughed because that's the kind of luck I usually have.

 It's not wrong at all  It's like they knew or something....

Great safari pics! Um, I think this rhino may be hung over, he appears to be vomiting all over the place!
23h13t4.jpg

:rotfl2: I never thought of it that way!

Ugh, that Dinosaur ride is brutal! It feels like I've had my intestines jarred and jiggled! Yet I continue to ride it. Bubba looks terrified though! And I love your thumbs up!:thumbsup2

Me too! I love going on the ride but afterwards I always wonder why I put myself through such torture.

I love the drawing at Animation Academy! It's so cool. Did you know that you can ask the animator conducting the class to keep his/her drawing?? A free souvenir! How often does THAT happen at Disney?

I never knew you could actually ask to keep their drawing. I'm sure there would be lots of people to compete with though! I remember once (I think I mentioned it in one of my TRs/PTRs) when the animator asked the audience a question and whoever got it right got to keep his drawing. Well, Bubba actually got the answer right! Free definitely doesn't happen often in Disney.

Glad you ladies made it to the GF for tea. That is so on my list of things to do for next trip. I love tea! How nice too that they were able to seat you early. This is a really nice pic of you Jen, at least Bubba was able to get one good one!
xgcpyu.jpg

Thanks Molly! It's a really neat experience. You feel like the queen for a couple hours.

I'm not sure if I will do a PTR. I find it hard to keep them interesting enough to keep readership up. Leisa is the queen of PTRs. I should get some tips from her!

That is a beautiful picture of you!

Thank you! It only took several attempts! :rotfl2:

Hello Everyone!

I'm on the fence about starting a PTR for my next trip in July/Aug. I have stuff I want to talk about but not sure if y'all would be interested. I've found PTRs hard to keep going in the past so that's why I'm iffy about starting a new one. What do you think I should do???

Also, I have a BIG announcement to make which I'd also like to save for my PTR. If I don't write a PTR, then you might never find out what that BIG announcement is.... :rolleyes1
