Funny you should ask. He's doing well now.....but he was attacked by another dog a couple of weeks ago and got pretty beat up. I was walking him and another dog (not the dog that ended up attacking him) and owner came out. Her dog and Swiffer greeted each other, sniff sniff, then a third dog from a couple of houses past where we'd already walked came down to us. That dog greeted the first dog, then Swiffer went over and....bam! With no provocation or warning that dog just grabbed Swiffer by the neck and started going for the kill. The owner of the first dog we'd met was yelling at it and I was trying to pull it off. I couldn't get a hold of anything so ended up pulling its front leg literally back and behind it to get it to let go. Then it got free and went at him again. (Swiffer was just yelping the whole time. James was at the bus stop, probably a quarter of a mile away and could hear him.) This time I was able to get a hold of the dog's collar and pull it off. I got her to sit and she seemed to get her senses about her. She's actually a very nice dog....to people anyway, so it was kind of strange and very unexpected. Then she pulled back and her collar slipped over her head.

I was really worried at that point, because if she went after Swiffer then, I don't think I'd be able to get her off of him. The other lady helped me get the collar back on and we stood there until the dog's owner came down the street to find out what was going on. He offered to pay for Swiffer's vet bills and I took him up on it. It turned out that Swiffer's wounds were mostly superficial, but he did have a big cut on the top of his head and some small puncture wounds on his neck. The vet said, "What? Did you have your whole head in that dog's mouth?" Yep, pretty much.

So, he was on antibiotics and anti-inflammatories for a couple of days and moved around very gingerly. But, he's back to his old self playful self now. The cut on his head is healing well, but there's still a bare patch where they had to shave his fur to see what they were dealing with.
I said that we need to get him some karate lessons.
