don't set your plans in stone and your 60 day FP+ experience will be fine

so today was our 60 day mark for our up coming trip. I built out our plans weeks ago so I knew what park I would be at for a day. Made my ADR's. Now just needed to make FP+ selections.

For the most part everything went as planned. Except....

Wanted to get Avatar FOP on day 3 in the morning. of course , all gone for the day. But was able to get everything else including Navi River.

In order to get Avatar FOP, I had to book it on day 4, and had to do it late at night. In order to do this, we had to move a Magic Kingdom day, which meant I had to cancel California Grille and move it as well.

In the end, everything worked out. You just have to be flexible, and be able to think quick while doing all this. If you wait too long, you may miss most of the big ticket items.

I'm going solo in August and keep wanting to make more ADRs, but I keep holding myself back because I know I want to see what FP I get before doing so. I don't ever want to be held back from getting a FP because of a dining reservation, especially for FOP! In the end I'll find places I want to eat, and everything will be fine, it's a good practice to have.

I agree with you, but some people are either unwilling or unable to be that flexible. You hear people complaining on the boards all the time regarding the difficulty of certain FPs, hard to get ADRs, and the disconnect between booking ADRs 180 days out and FPs at 60 (or 30) days out.

I think at some point people have to decide what is more important: a coveted ADR or FP, sometimes you just can't have both.

I always plan the days and the dining reservations and then just book the FPs around that. If there is a ride I can't get a FP for and the family really wants to do it then that is my excuse to get them up and outta bed for rope drop.

Though there is something to be said for being flexible. For many trips in a row we would kick off the trip with dinner at Via Napoli followed by illuminations. Just a great way to start off the vacation. A few years ago we couldn't get anything but an 8:30 PM reservation for Via Napoli. This would have thrown our plans way off and potentially had us missing illuminations. Grudgingly, I booked Trattora al Forno instead for an earlier dinner. Now we kick off the vacation with either Via Napoli or Trattoria and then do the one we didn't eat at on our last day.

As much as is possible flexibility is the name of the game when planning. Disney has become so complex! For our June 7 night stay the only adr I have is Ohana dinner and only because I managed by luck to get it at 77 days out. I have an idea which days will be park days (only 3) but nothing is set in stone. From the looks of it AK will be moved to day 64 and Epcot to day 61. After fp day on April 18 I will then plan any more adr's. I find that adr's are much easier to book later on as cancellations are made by people holding on to extra reservations. The rides in demand like fop, 7 dwarfs etc. are extremely hard to work around adr's.

Glad it worked out. And yes, flexibility is great. However, I will say that with the exception of FoP, you won't miss out on the big ticket items...we still get them fairly easily at 30 days out. I am guessing the new Toy Story rides will be like FoP...very hard to get, so that'll make 3 rides hard to get at 30 days.

This is precisely why I am holding 2 ADRs for the same restaurant at the same time on different days. I hate doing it, but until July 3rd I don't know when we are going to AK and my whole plan hinges on FoP this trip. I refuse to RD it, so I would rather move things around.

I'm doing this too, and exactly for this reason. It is only one and I will drop it as soon as we get our FP's, and not anything all that popular so I don't feel too bad.

Mine's a PPO breakfast, but hey someone will be happy when their TP alert goes off on July 3!

Great comment here. What we do regarding FOP is plan our AK day later in our trip which has seemed to work out. I think we're heading into a new FP+ time with the advent of ToyStoryland. I believe the Slinky Dog coaster will pass FOP as toughest FP to get. Does that mean FOP will be easier to get...........unfortunately NO I don't think so. However, right now most booking FP's have FOP as the first they go for............that will change in a couple of weeks as Slink Dog and the other new ToyStoryland ride will move up to that slot. That's why Slinky Dog is #1 AND #2 (last day of our trip) on my priority list...........FOP has moved to #3.

Yep I moved our 2nd HS day to the final day of our trip in order to FP SDD.

Still trying to work on the strategy. Anxious to hear some reports when SDD can be booked for 60 day folks.

I have to tell you I hope I get the first Slinky Dog FP..........I'd much prefer going to Epcot on our final day. We don't have hoppers this trip o_O

MK is usually my choice for final day, but I actually want to finish at HS to take it all in before Star Wars changes it forever.

Our FP day is tomorrow. I'm trying to be flexible and hoping I can get what I want. We have 2 day tickets, so not a lot of options. Trying though. We could shift dates slightly, but that would mean shifting everything else that is planned too!

This is another reason we aren't doing many ADRs. Just 3 for 9 nights. the rest we will wing it with same day ADRs, QS and lounges. We just don't want to be tied down and be a lot more flexible. FOP FP will trump any ADR. Right now we have day 2, 5 and 9 for AK. I highly doubt we will get FOP on day 2 so our plan is to do the rest of the park that morning and not even bother with Pandora. Maybe just take a peak inside the land on our way out at midday. If I can't get the time I want on day 5 I will flop with day 6. Day 9 I don't expect a problem. ADRs don't interfere with any of these plans.

.

LOL...yeah...we are NOT rope droppers. 1st FP+ is usually 9:30-10:30am window, and we usually ride at 10:29am :)

same....we went twice last spring and summer and didn't bother with Pandora at all. Fighting crowds and selling your soul for rope drop or fast passes is just not us. But I could not tell the family we will skip Pandora for a 3rd time 18 months after it opened. so had to change on the fly.

we are going June 13th - 19th....I am hoping for a DVC or AP preview....or else we won't deal with Toy Story until Star Wars take some of the pressure off.
