DON'T Read This TRIP REPORT If You're a Princess Hater!

Yay for FD!!1 Of course, now that I don't need it, it gets released! Oh well, lol, it's not like I am suffering! Have you started a PTR?

I did!!! Add the free dining this morning with the SUPER cheap plane tickets I got last night ($240 total for 2 ROUND TRIP tickets from STL!) along with some amazing personal news and this has just been a ROCKSTAR day!!

WOW! Congrats on the great double score! Our airfare is still pretty high. I keep going back and forth on biting the bullet and just doing it.

Awesome airfare from here! What airline and dates?

We got FD today too! Since we already had a pin code before it wasn't a huge discount, but another 10% off makes me happy!

ETA: Just found it. Ai yi yi yi yi. I'd love to have saved half on my airfare. Although 6:15 am is the only flight home on my dates and there's no way I could do that with the two kiddos.

Congrats on getting the FD! We love it because we plan on doing all those character meals anyway. And it's honestly the best discount we're going to get staying at a value. And I don't blame you on teh 6:15 flight. That would probably get nixed here too.

On Delta! Go check it out! I got it last night! They might still have the rates. I went to the "deals" page (found the link at the bottom of the home page) and just ran my dates in the form on that page. All the flights for the days I needed were $96 RT before taxes. Please go check it out! Let me know if it works out for you!!! I was so excited I was shaking as I purchased them!

ETA: Hey Neighbor!!:wave2:

Well, clearly you guys across the state get far better deals than we do here in KC. I just checked Delta and they wanted $277 each way! :scared1: SW is looking better and better. I think they are sitting at $133 for the out trip and $169 for the return.

I did get it to come up, but I had gotten impatient back when SW did their big $40 sale and booked with them and AirTran then. Got decent pricing, but this is amazing pricing!

You did have me checking my pricing though and I ended up switching my flight down to the earlier one. We'll have to get up early, but it will give my animal-loving DD some time to enjoy our special 2-nights of savanna view. SW even took out the $0.60 price difference. ;) Guess they didn't want to pay a fee to get my $0.60. :thumbsup2

:wave2: from West County.

That Southwest sale was pretty good pricing! If they had had our dates available I would have booked then too! I'm glad you're getting a little extra time at Disney though! :thumbsup2

:wave2: from U City!

I do think we'll have to look at some November dates next year. All those SW deals were in October and November and I'd sure love to get in on that next year!

I just found your TR and read the entire thing. It looks like you had a great trip. I loved your photos and Katie's outfits. Adorable. I just got my first DSLR a few weeks ago. I really want to learn out to use it (more than just auto mode). Any book or website suggestions to get started. I want to take a basic photography course, but I have to wait until fall when it is offered at the CC.

Hi! and........... :welcome:

I'm glad you found us!

YEAH! on getting the new DSLR. My first recommendation is to start hanging out on the DIS photography forum and asking any and all questions you have. They love to help! And also pick up Bryan Peterson's book "Understandign Exposure". It's a great user friendly book that reviews the exposure triangle of ISO, shutter speed and aperture.

I did :thumbsup2 Though my trustee travel agent Jen is the one who braved the phones for me :worship:  11/16-11/21

Go Jen! :dance3:

So cute!! I did an outfit almost exactly like this for my little one - great minds think alike!! The ruffles are so fun!! Although I didn't have the cute hat or the awesome shoes!!! I think I am going to bring this one along on our October trip (I love that she has yet to outgrow things - except for height).

DSC_0488.jpg

Love the poses! Kenzie is starting to do this and I can see we're going to have a little diva on our hands.

Love the trip report and pics!! Thanks!

OH MY! THat's ADORABLE! And amazing how similar! Too bad we weren't there together. It would have been fun to see the 2 of them together. And Katie loves little kids!

Did you get a chance to start on your Cindy yet?????

Congratulations!!! I was right in there in that free dining madness with you! We got it too! :cool1:

YEAH! for you too! :dance3: That really was a crazy day, wasn't it? First I overslept, then the circuits were all busy, then the DIS crashed. I could handle all of it until I got to the DIS crashing part. I at least wanted to be in good company while waiting........

Yay for FD!!1 Of course, now that I don't need it, it gets released! Oh well, lol, it's not like I am suffering! Have you started a PTR?

Thanks! I'd like to do a PTR, but don't think that will happen. I'm coming up on my busiest time of the year when I will likely be working 7 days a week. If you think this TR has been sporadic, you wouldn't want to see something I do in the fall!

I actually have you in mind for them, IF they ever:headache:!!! make up their minds!!!

Oh, and when I win the lotto, I'll just swing by in my personal jet and pick both you ladies up (+ kiddos) Jen can make the arrangments, Janet the costumes and I can do the meal and park planning!:lmao:

Sounds like a perfect plan!!!!!

I did :thumbsup2 Though my trustee travel agent Jen is the one who braved the phones for me :worship:  11/16-11/21

:thumbsup2 It was crazy and they kept hanging up on people. I think Brook was on a total of 5 hours before she got through. I tried twice in the morning ( I think I spent about 2 1/2 to 3 hours on hold) and then I had to leave and I knew the evening would work out better. I got on when I came home and was done with the whole process in 15 minutes. I will remember that next time. No need to call at 7 and wait for 3-5 hours.

OH MY! THat's ADORABLE! And amazing how similar! Too bad we weren't there together. It would have been fun to see the 2 of them together. And Katie loves little kids!

Did you get a chance to start on your Cindy yet?????

Thanks! I know, we both go often and yet have never been at the same time (as far as I know)

I haven't started on Cindy yet. I had an order to finish and then I decided to make something for the Disboutique Runway. I think I'll use what I make for that for Chef Mickey's. So I'll start soon. I have just recently had enough energy to sew at night (have to work during the day and Kenzie isn't really helpful with sewing). Plus, I tend to procrastinate!!

Also, luckily I don't think I am going to make the Ariel grotto dress. I was unable to find any kind of fabric I liked!!

-I love riding in the front of EE! I love the shots I can get from the front!
-Love the shot of EE with the flags! I have a similar one, but not as close up!
-Love Katie's skirt! I want one on my size :)
-I think that's one of the clearest pics of the yeti shadow i've ever seen! Good work!
-Those drums are always so inviting! I'm so tempted to walk up and play those every time i'm there!
-I really like Lilo and Stitch's Christmas outfits! That should be a new costume idea for Katie :)
-I have a picture of me and minnie in an outfit that looks a lot like Katie's from 2008! I could only find one of me with Mary Poppins lol :)

-Chef Mickey's is one of my top character meals!!!
-Katie's shoes are adorable! The sad part is that I could probably wear them :) I have to wear kids shoes!
-I love the ruffles on Katie's skirt!!
-Neat monorail picture! I need to buy a tripod for my next trip!
-I am in love with your window decorations! I love the mickey head rope lighting! How did you do that?
-Loving the mickey head face frame shot! Might have to do that on my next trip!
-I have the same pink tree, and the same garland and possibly some of the same ornaments!!!

I haven't posted on your thread in awhile, but I've been following along! I just had to share this with you....

I was searching for something "Wendy" on Ebay, and one of your listings came up. I looked at it...and looked at it...thinking I know I KNOW that little girl! So I looked again, and said to myself oh that is Katie! Ha! She's famous!!!!! ;)

I found your trip report today and have been reading for hours! Your report is great. I love all the dresses and outfits. I am a sewer and would love to know where you found all your patterns for the dresses and the outfits. I saw your post about Disboutiquers and will be heading there shortly. I am not a great sewer, but I am ok and I have an embroidery machine. We are going the week after Thanksgiving and I would love to start on somethings for my daughter. I want to make her a princess dress for her BBB appt.
Your pictures are amazing also!!

Great photos, and love your post-processing on the AK shots. The Christmas window pics are so adorable.

The Chef Mickey outfits are all darling -- this year's especially. Looks as though you were sitting in the "upper hallway." According to my son (who works at Chef Mickey's), you can see Wishes from the end table in that little section (which is up a few stairs). Were you able to see it? That's one thing I've not managed to do there.

Looking forward to hearing about your last day of the trip.

Sharla

Hi, Janet! I had missed your July 31st update until now. I love it! I found myself getting a little teary-eyed at a few places. Katie is beautiful and adorable all at once.

Eve and I will be at Disney one week from tonight. Can't wait! Chef Mickey's is our first ADR.

I want to decorate our window at POP, too. How did you hang the lights? What kind of batteries did they need? We are buying some window clings. Eve wanted the Cheshire Cat and Alice, Bambi, Thumper, and Flower, AND Kevin (the bird) from Up.

We may make another trip to Disney this December, too. I am thinking about the 16th. Will you and Katie still be there then? It should be fun!

It's too hot for us to do much with the costumes in August, but we may give it a go in December! I still have a dream of dressing Eve like Belle. We just watched Beauty & The Beast tonight. She is more enamored of the animals than the princesses these days. But she still likes Jasmine!

I love reading your trip reports.. We were there in September 2009 when you were in we were there in the cold of December 2010. However, we are going back in October 2011 (We were there in May '11 too) I hope this December is warming. Looking back we were at MVMCP the same nite. We are going to try MNSSHP this year.

Not to steal the show but I wanted to post a link to my travel blog for those that might be interested in reading about my adventures which start  TODAY!! I leave in an hour for Yellowstone National Park. Hi everyone!

I'm working on my next batch of photos for an update later today!

I knew I had a few comments to reply to, but didn't realize just HOW far behind I was! Sorry!

Things are stressful here as we try to get Robbie ready to start college in a couple weeks. But everyone is enrolled, has all their dental work done, and has the school supplies they need (I think).........

I keep thinking things will settle down a bit when they are all back in school. But then I remember thinking the same thing every other year, only to be SLAPPED in the face with the reality of running kids all over creation and attend back to school nights and cross country meets. But since I haven't figured out where the "rewind" button is, I guess I have no choice but to just plow forward......

With that in mind though, I want to try and finish up my trip report so it doesn't get left hanging.............

:thumbsup2 It was crazy and they kept hanging up on people. I think Brook was on a total of 5 hours before she got through. That really was a mess that morning, wasn't it? I'm glad that's done. I just have to pull the trigger and book the air. Waiting is going to bite me in the behind soon....... but I just keep hoping for some sort of break..........

Jen, I hope you're all packed and ready to head out the door. Have an AWESOME time!

Thanks! I know, we both go often and yet have never been at the same time (as far as I know)

Well, let me know how it goes when you do start Cindy. I didn't see all the photos of the Disboutique Runway. I need to get over there and take a peek!

I'll let you know if I come across any fabric that would work for an Ariel's Grotto dress. But it took several years to find the one I used. BTW...... there are photos of Katie's coming up in an update soon........

I hear you on not being able to sew much. It's hard when you work all day and have a little one, and don't you have another one on the way? If so, then I'm amazed if you're even upright by the end of the night!

-I love riding in the front of EE! I love the shots I can get from the front!

Thanks for the nice comments on the AK shots. I'm really trying hard not to shortchange the park on this next trip. I'm pretty sure we'll get at least half a day. I sure hope we can get some blue skies this time!

So how cute are YOU in that photo with Mary?????? :dance3:

And I love your idea of a Lilo Christmas costume for Katie, but she probably won't go for it. She's sort of anti-Lilo and Stitch. Long story, but it has to do with a trip several years ago when we had breakfast with Lilo and she wasn't feeling well.........:rolleyes1 Don't ask. I'm sworn to secrecy............

LOL! Maybe Katie can start sending you her hand-me-downs! We went to buy back to school shoes and she found out she can wear a women's 6 or 6 1/2 now!

The Mickey Head from rope lights came that way. Just bought it and hung it up! I'll probably bring that back with us this year. I just plugged it into the same extension cord I brought for the lights. I got it at Walgreens before our trip. The light-up snowman came from there too. They get cute Disney holiday stuff there.

I hung the outer lights with suction cup hooks. They worked great.

LOL! I think it IS the same tree! What great taste you have! I mean...... come on. It's a PINK TREE!!!

I haven't posted on your thread in awhile, but I've been following along! I just had to share this with you....

LOL! I'll tell Katie. She'll appreciate that. I think those pictures in the Wendy costume were taken in 2008, so 3 years ago. She's changed a lot since then, but I'm glad you recognized her!

Glad you're still reading along!

I found your trip report today and have been reading for hours! Your report is great. I love all the dresses and outfits. HI! And :welcome:

I'm glad you found us!

I'm afraid I'm not going to be much help with the patterns though. I do a lot of "Frankenpatterning". That's a very technical term......... referring to using bits and pieces of various patterns to get the look you're after. Sometimes I hand draw certain parts of a pattern, or make revisions to pieces. A lot of it is trial and error through the years. And sometimes if I make something and it doesn't turn out right, I trash it and start over! :scared1: So my biggest suggestion is not to invest too much in fabric until you've tried the pattern at least once. Then jump right in. Don't be afraid to learn as you go!

Great photos, and love your post-processing on the AK shots. The Christmas window pics are so adorable.

The Chef Mickey outfits are all darling -- this year's especially. Looks as though you were sitting in the "upper hallway." Thanks for the kind comments Sharla!

I had to stop and think for a minute about your question. We were in that upper hallway, but not next to the window. Had we been there at the right time, I'm sure we could have seen Wishes. But I think our ADR was at 6:30 or 6:45, and it was a Saturday (non-party) night, so I'm sure Wishes wasn't until 9 or 10. I think we were back in our room fast asleep by then (exciting folks that we are......)

Hi Amy! Your posts are always so sweet and heartfelt. :goodvibes I know we both are mourning the quickly passing time with our daughters and both trying to freeze time with our trips to Disney. If I'm doing the math correctly, you'll be on your way to Disney soon. YEAH! I hope you'll share some photos when you get back. I can't wait to hear ALL about it!

I think I answered you in the above post. I used suction cup hooks for the lights and just brought an extension cord for the lights.

Katie and I used to start every trip at Chef Mickeys, but don't know if we will on this next trip. We might be meeting Katie's friend's family there later in the week. They're the same ones you met back in 08. We are actually hoping to be together the 16th and 17th. But do let me know if you'll be there. It would be great to see you too!

We haven't watched Beauty & the Beast in a long time. When we sit down to watch a Disney movie, Katie always ends up reverting to the Aristocats! :lmao: We did watch Tangled again recently.

We did have some princess fun a couple weeks ago though. They did Rogers & Hammerstein's Cinderella at the outdoor theater here in town. I was back and forth all week about going, since that was one of those weeks it was over 100 most days. The heat and I just don't get along, so I was real hesitant. But it got overcast one day late in the week, so I think the high was "only" 95 .....:lmao: so we gave it a go. I'm so glad we did. My love all things princessy started with that show, the version they showed on TV every year when I was little. It has Leslie Ann Warren and I adored that show!

I love reading your trip reports.. We were there in September 2009 when you were in we were there in the cold of December 2010. Isn't it funny we were on the same schedule! Glad to know you recovered from the great heat of 09 and are willing to give it another try. I almost did, but chickened out. I'm dying to do MNSSHP again. Maybe next year??????

YEAH! No stealing the show involved at all. After all, there wasn't much show going on here the past couple of weeks............ :rolleyes1

Can't wait to check it out! :dance3:

We leave for the airport in about 9 hours. I still have some packing to do! :scared1:

At the 11th hour, I did purchase the Canon PowerShot SX130. I had to pay for next day shipping, but I am so glad I purchased it. I hope to have some good pictures to share in a couple of weeks.

Wish us luck! :cloud9:

Edited to add: Janet, you have inspired me so much with this trip report! I have loved every second of it! Thank you!!!

12-19-10: DEPARTURE DAY

Well, it had to happen, right?

That dreaded day.......... of departure.

This was it. Our last morning. I think it helped a lot that we had more park days on this trip than ever before. While we hated leaving Disney, I think we were both ready to get home and get ready for Christmas.

While Katie slept, I got a luggage cart and parked it outside our door. I then packed our carry-ons and finished packing all the suitcases. We sadly said good-bye to our room and headed for baggage check-in. We got lucky and there was only one person in line ahead of us. By the time we were done, there was a long line behind us. We headed for the bus stop one last time. We had left our room at 7, and were walking into the Magic Kingdom a few minutes after 8.

I had hoped for a beautiful day for taking photos on Main Street, but had no such luck. It was gray and even misty at times. I guess that’s fitting for a day you’re leaving Disney.

We had originally planned one last meal at Cinderella's Royal table on our departure morning. I always want to do that, but it never seems to pan out. I had it planned on our trip in 09 as well, but we ended up letting Timmy choose our last park day and I cancelled. (He picked Epcot). Originally we had the 8:05 breakfast, but when they bumped park opening back from 9 to 8, I decided we didnt' want to spend the first park hour eating, so cancelled.

We both wanted to ride Space Mountain again, so we went there first. The stand-by said 10 minutes but with a line all the way out in Tomorrowland, I was skeptical. Turns out they just didn’t have much of a queue going inside, so it really was that short. We grabbed fastpasses to return later and jumped in line. Things have changed for us. Instead of heading straight for Dumbo and Fantasyland, we actually headed for Space Mountain 2 of our days in the MK this trip.

As soon as we were done at Space, we did head for Fantasyland. Alice and the White Rabbit were out again, so we stopped to get pictures with Katie in her Queen of Hearts costume. Since the line was non-existent, we decided to take one last spin before moving on.

YEAH! I just caught you! I think you'll love that camera. I think that's the same one Jen just bought so I'd love a full report from both of you!

I can't wait to see all your photos.

Have a magical time! (And watch for Jen! She leaves tomorrow!)

12/19/2010: CONTINUED

From there we headed for the Haunted Mansion. Katie was in her Haunted Mansion skirt set and mouse ears, so we stopped and asked the CM’s at the entrance for a photo. They were right in character and I love the photo! This time we entered through the regular line, so we got to see the stretching room. While we were there, the female CM from out front tapped Katie on the shoulder and gave her 2 certificates declaring us “Honorary Caretakers” of the Haunted Mansion. This really made us giggle and we were honored to accept!

After the ride we left Liberty Square and headed for Adventureland to find Ariel in her green gown. We got there around 9:30 and started her line. Ariel was playful and I got some beautiful photos. My favorite was suggested by Ariel, who told Katie to make a face like a fish with her!

This was our 4th day in the Magic Kingdom and we had done every ride in Fantasyland but Small World so that was our next stop. I probably wouldn’t do the ride if I was by myself, but slowly winding though the colorful doll-filled rooms with Katie just seems so perfect! I also think there’s something about doing an attraction with a long slow pace that I enjoy.

I have to say here's where I get a little lazy. I did take a bunch of Small World photos (as I have on many trips before!) but I got too lazy to edit them. So maybe this can serve as proof that we did indeed go????

We both did want to take one last spin on Dumbo, so we decided to use our second set of special fastpasses there. I enjoyed it, but honestly, the ride loses something with a gray sky and construction cranes in the view. That ride has always been about the view for me, and honestly the view was lacking this time. Of course, I’m not sure the view will ever be the same. Once they move it to Toontown, it will no longer be next to the castle, so in my opinion it just won’t be the same.

After riding Dumbo, I realized they had never taken that last special fastpass from us. I told Katie we could still use it for something else, but she told me it wasn't the right thing to do, so we passed. I could have talked her into it I suppose, justifying it in one way or another. But I didn't want to let this teachable moment go. And I told her I was proud of her choice.

It was now after 11:00 and we had intended to leave the park by noon. So the clock was definitely ticking. We hustled back to Tomorrowland for our last ride of the trip…. Space Mountain. On our way out of Tomorrowland, we spotted the Mickey snowman buckets of popcorn and bought one for my friend Kim. It would be a long day of dragging that thing around, but I’m glad we did. I knew she'd love it, and on the up side, we got to eat Disney popcorn all day as we traveled home! With that, we headed for Main Street. We picked up a couple last things in the shops, I climbed the steps of the Train Station for one last photo, and off we went. Until next time.

We had lunch at the POP food court. I cashed in our last snack credits for chocolate chip cookies and a chocolate croissant and we headed for the Magical Express. They seemed quite confused at the bus stop, but they eventually got us on a bus headed for the airport. It was great not to have to worry about our bags.

I was a little concerned about what security would be like at MCO, but once again…. No full body scans…..no pat-downs.

We stopped for a bite of pizza before heading for the gate. Right after leaving our table, I realized I had left the bag with the cookies and croissant behind. I went looking for it…. But no go. It was so sad to leave behind yet another piece of Disney…..

Our plane was late arriving, and a little late leaving, so I did worry a bit about our connecting flight in St. Louis. Not to worry though…. That one was even later.

It was a long day. And as always, laying down to sleep that night, I found it was hard to even fathom that we had been in the Magic Kingdom that morning. But it was time to get home and make sure everything was ready for Christmas.

Not long after our trip, I did a scrapbook page listing Katie's and my favorite things from our trip. Some predictable things made the list. But this one still cracks me up.........:lmao:

It's the "plane crackers" they give out on Southwest. She was really tickled by those. And for whatever reason, they made the list!

Anyone want to make some guesses on my and Katie's top 5 ists????????

I sure agree with that BOO thing!

We loved both Mickeys too, but MAN, they were SPACE HOGS! We ended up carrying that Mickey along with us the entire way home. Each step of the way we ate a little more Disney popcorn until eventually all traces of Disney were gone............. I hear they also sell ghost Mickey popcorn buckets at Halloween. I think we're going to have to take a chance on fall next year just to get one of those!
