At this point we really don't know. Projected start date is early 2014, but I don't think that is even set in stone yet. Not sure how long it will take to complete each floor. We will have a better idea, I think, once the work starts.

I guess my only suggestion is to book what you want. Disney seems pretty good about cancellations and working with you to switch resorts if it looks like the work will be of concern during your stay.

We will post info as we get it, but right now, until a start date is made firm and we know how long the work is taking, I don't think we can make any predictions that far out.

Dee- thanks for update. Have you heard any rumblings about poly construction (dvc conversion and pool renovation), which might be our other choice? But given that our son loves garden grove char dinner at dolphin, we may just try to stay somewhere in epcot area.

Question regarding room projected renovation status for sept/oct 2014. We usually go in sept or. Oct (this year we went during mothers day week, which was also great). If our 2014 trip is again in late sept or oct, any estimate on status of yc or bc renovations? Interestingly, on our last trip (first bc ever), my wife had been adamant that we NOT get a first floor room, and that was literally our only request other than being near the grandmas room (my mom and her mom shared a room). But as it turned out, my wife thought it was decent (easier access to marketplace, exits, etc), and the moms LOVED it, partic b/c we were right at bc quiet pool, so they could easily sit on porch (or even poolside) and relax in morning with their coffee/tea while we wrangled our son to get ready. With all that, we would love to do either bc or yc first floor. If not, we would go back to our standby dolphin, which tends to cost much less than bc/yc - but wow, did we like sab and the bc quiet pool.

The YC will not be started in Sept/Oct 2014. The BC will be in the middle of the renovation at that time. I doubt very much it will be down to the first floor since that is the last floor that is done. I can't guarantee that but from my past experiences if they start in January or February on the fifth floor, and then go to the fourth, third, second, first, I don't see how the first floor would be done.

If you are asking if the renovations will be completed so that you can have a "new room", then no, if you get a first floor room at either resort in September/October 2014, it is very unlikely you will have a new room. Definitely not at the YC and very unlikely at the BC. If you are asking because of any inconvenience the renovations will cause while you are there, it would not affect you. I doubt you would even know it was going on. EVERY Disney resort and even the Swan and Dolphin (although they are not Disney resorts) go through room renovations every four to five years. The way they take the rooms out to redo them, you rarely even know it is going on. Noise work is only done during the hours guests are at the pool or parks (daytime). Whole sections are taken out at one time and obviously those rooms are not rented out so you would not know renovations are happening. The only time we have any guest inconvenience during room rehab is if you were a family that came back to the resort for naps during the day in the room and you were right under a room that was being worked on. At night you would not even know the room was being worked on above you but you may hear noise during the day if you were to come back for a nap. If that were to happen, just let the front desk know and they will do their best to get you in a room where there is no noise during the day. Most people are not in the room during the "noise hours" so if a room above them is being worked on, they wouldn't even know.

If you decide to move to the Swan and Dolphin, they could very well be doing room rehab too. EVERY motel, hotel, resort does this routinely. You probably stayed in a resort while it was going on and didn't even know it.

The only rehab that really affects guests as far as seeing it is the outside rehab. I would never reschedule my vacation at a resort because of room rehab!!

Yes, we did it last summer to have a car to go shopping for a couple of days. Walked over to Dolphin and went inside to the desk. They hand you the paperwork and you go out to the valet and they bring your car around. You don't pick your own like at the airport. Returning is even easier...the valet takes it from you at the front of the resort. Very easy.

Good to know. I do like Emerald Aisle but since we are using ME and don't need it for the whole trip, it seems convenient Thanks!

Thanks for this information. I love this thread. This is a great idea for getting from the airport to the YC. It is way cheaper than a private car and it allows us to stop at the store on the way, AND drive to dinner at Ohana. And we can just return it the next day! So excited! For the day we need it in November it's 43 without using any discounts!

Anyone know about using a rental car car seat. That's my only question- to bring the car seat or not. We will just take depressing express back to the airport.

We don't need it anymore but it was easier for us to rent one than lug it around during our trip last time and we only needed a booster seat. If you go to mousesavers.com, they have rental car discounts codes. If your rental is over Saturday night, they have a code for one night free for a 3 day rental with National.

We will be at the BC during the rehab (April 30-May 4th) and I'm not worried about it at all. :goodvibes We have stayed at the BC before during the room rehab period and it never impacted our stay in any way.

Thanks for posting that. I hate to see guests panic and move when it rarely impacts anybody ... in fact, they wouldn't even know it was going on if it wasn't advertised.

I'm not overly worried about it impacting my Aug. 2014 trip. My only worry would be that I wouldn't get to stay in one of the newly renovated rooms!

And on that note...I'm very curious this morning and have a few questions.....

1. Teena...let's say they start the rehab in January as planned. I remember being at the GF when they were renovating and they had easels in the lobby with pics of the new rooms. Any chance that would happen at BC? Or would we just have to wait until the first guests stay there and report back to us (probably March-ish if they start in Jan.)? I'm just so excited to see the new rooms! A small piece of me is worried I won't like the rehab, as I love the current rooms and have not at all liked the recent renos at the Poly and CR!

2. So I know daybeds are important to a lot of people on this thread and I can understand why. They're really not important to me, but it got me to thinking. Why on earth DO only half the rooms at BC/YC have daybeds? Rather than listen to guests complain and beg for them....in the upcoming BC/YC reno, why not just put one in every room? Or is it a size thing? Are rooms without daybeds actually smaller than those that do? In our YC room in April, we had a daybed, and the room felt nice and big, and I recall thinking to myself that the room would seem almost cavernous without the daybed.

3. This isn't BC/YC related (forgive me Dee! :offtopic: ), but I know many here travel to WDW often, and my question is, for those who go in December, have you ever received a BounceBack for the following year? I'm wishfully thinking that when we are at YC in December, we might be able to phone-in a nice discount for our BC stay in August. :beach:

Just for reference, we stayed at WL right in the middle of their refurb in 2012. Over a 10 night stay, we saw exactly one construction worker that whole time and didn't hear any noise. We were impressed with how well they contained it. :goodvibes

They never put pics in the lobby before during rehab ... at least while I was there and I'm coming up on ten years. But I will suggest it to management.

All the rooms are different sizes and shapes at the Y&B. Not all rooms will support a daybed. I'd like to get my hands on the architect!!! Really??? You couldn't have made all full balconies????? And think of the people who get one of the really super large standard rooms their first year. Then when they come back a year later and book the same category and get a whole different room, much smaller, no daybed .... life would be so much easier if each room were identical!!!!

Don't remember what year ... when you are as old as me, all the years seem to lump together ... however, I do remember guests getting bouncebacks in December for the next year.

Yes, as indicated above, all BC rooms do have some sort of balcony, and that includes club level. Actually, club level has a higher percentage of full balconies to the regular ones, so the odds are ever in your favor.

Almost all the BC club level rooms have a full balcony. There are rooms on some of the corners that have the standing balcony. And I'm sure there are a few other odd rooms without the full balcony. But there aren't very many of them.

The next time we are at the Beach Club I'm going to walk around the resort and take a picture of every elevation so I can satisfy my curiosity about balconies. I really think that the BC has more than 50% full balconies or patios, since it is mostly the 3rd floor and some other odd rooms and sections with standing balconies. But until I can see all the sides of the resort, I'll never know for sure. ;)

There is at least one room at BC on the second floor that has NO balcony. We had this room last year. It was on top of a roof, to the left was where the ME bus dropped off and picked up. The room was very close to the stairs and elevators.

I was shocked that there was no type of balcony there!!

Thanks for all of the feedback, everyone! (And sorry it's taken pages and pages to respond - still can't believe how fast this thread moves!!) We'll just keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best. :goodvibes

OK- I'll never get caught up on this thread after a week of radio silence at WDW.
Just back from Yacht Club, all was well with only a few minor issues. We stayed in room 3237, which was a standard view- lovely view of a roof, but it also looked Stormalong bay. We were right by an emergency exit, and SOOOOO wished we could use those stairs...it was a long hike to the elevator! Our room had 2 beds and a daybed. Fridge was NOT switched out. Our safe held an ipad and 2 kindle fires. I have pictures of the room/view somewhere but haven't got around to looking through/ uploading pictures yet.
Got Pinacolavas and Sunken Treasures at SAB, and Grand Marnier slushies at Epcot (yum!!!). Used String Bags, and while we ended up actually putting our stuff in them (first try, the security person made DH empty his pockets because they were so stuffed :lmao: ) it was a great thing because it kept me from my usual sherpa tendencies, which made my neck and shoulders so much happier.
Great trip overall. Sad because it will probably be a long time until our next trip to the World :(

I would love to know this too Scott. I know we couldn't participate in a BB for 2013 but 2014, who knows...:cheer2:

On another note.....flights booked and trip paid off....:banana::banana:

I'm in the finally days of our count down and I feel so unprepared. Still need to buy last minute items. My husband is driving me bonkers over the fact he told me he had plenty of clothes for our trip. I pulled all of them out. He has 4 pairs of shorts and 5 shirts. Hello we are staying 7 days!!!!! :sad2: I just don't understand men. His comment was I have 3 packs of underwears & 12 pairs of socks! :eek:guess we have more shopping to do.

I received the "official" invite email on Tuesday for the tester of the magic bands.

My sisters fast pass+ are all planned. Just need to double check ours.

Totally stressing out :scared:we has a small plane crash into a house in the area of our home. 2poor babies lost their lives. I hate to hear about these things b4 I have go get on a plane.

We were at the Poly in December and friends of ours were at the GF and we were both offered a BB good for dates the following year - 35% off deluxes!

We will be at the YC this month. Hopeful for a BB for next year, but it sounds like the current BB is only good for dates through this year.

Just had similar conversation with my son! Lol

Oh boy, you are in that area? Kept hearing on news throughout day yesterday as it happened so sad! :(

Random question. Will the rehab extend to the BC Villas or is it just in the main hotel portion? I realize they have different decorating schemes but just hoping the villas can get a facelift too... seems about time. 67 days til I go back!! :yay:

Not sure how far back I would need to look, what are the dates of the renovations and which hotel will they be doing first? Is it major renovations or just new decor?

Firm dates have not been published. Maybe Jan 2014, maybe later. Room refurb- maybe others can say what that means.

Will start with enlarging BC Club Lounge- lounge will be moved to Presidential Suite while that is being worked on. Then rooms on 5th floor, followed by 4th floor, etc... Then I think work will move on to YC.

Don't know a time table about how long work will take. We will probably know more once the work starts.

BC CL staff said last week that the Club Lounge will be expanding into the 1st room directly next to the lounge (kind of around the corner area). Dont know if they are going to just use it just for an extra seating area, or also be putting food items in there too.
It would be nice if they could tie some kind of wrap around balcony between the two "rooms" .

Syndrome

Our last day here at YC. Checked out and sitting by the pool. Thanks to all who have suggested the locker rooms for changing! With a 7:15 flight, this has been great!

Had a Sunken Treasure today. It was mighty yummy!

We have enjoyed our stay very much. Mousekeeping was terrific, and the CL staff very nice. We were less than thrilled with the behavior of many of the other guests both in the lounge and at the pool. Let's just say the 'it is all about me' mentality abounds. Today we sat next to a table that someone raced in to claim at 10:00 and, 4 hours later, they have not been back. There must be a better way.

It has been 6 years since our last WDW trip and will probably be that long again. Until then, thanks for the memories YC!
