SOME FRIENDS OF OURS JUST CAME BACK FROM A TRIP TO FORT WILDERNESS AND STATED THE PLACE WAS NOT GOOD AT ALL THEY CLAIMED IT WAS VERY "PLAIN". THE POOL WAS TERRIBLE AND THEIR EXPERIENCE WITH DISNEY IS THEY LEFT FORT WILDERNESS IN THE PAST . THEY CLAIMED THEY WOULD NEVER RETURN TO FW. I KNOW EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN OPINION BUT WHY DO YOU THINK THEY WOULD SAY THIS??????:guilty:

It's hard to say not knowing your friends, but maybe they just look for something different in a campground. There are as many different types of campgrounds as there are different types of people. We all like different things. Personally, I am glad that FW does not appeal to EVERYONE, as it would be even harder to find a site available. Some people like rustic federal land dry camping, some like high amenity class A only parks...there is something to appeal to all RV'ers.

Personally, I like the nostalgic feel at the Fort, and hope that the upgrades they are making don't take some of that away. Maybe your friends like the more modern, high end resorts? I wouldn't let it bother you.

I guess thats their opinion:confused3 . We've camped at FW many times, with may different friends and family members. Everyone WE know that has been there has loved it!
We have camped all over the country,(military family here), and FW is our favorite campground of all. We no longer tow the camper that far, (we now live in upstate NY), but we always visit FW when we go to WDW. This summer, we are staying in a cabin. We can't get enough of the Fort!!!;)

If you are expecting 5 star features like spa's, hot tubs and gourmet dining, then you might be disappointed. We are nature people so the 5 stars for us is the animals, woods and quiet. DH will only stay at FW!!!!

They are doing a lot of construction right now, maybe the made a bad impression.

I agree with the previous poster.....the less people the better!!!! :goodvibes

I would agree about the pool if they just returned. It's really hard to swim with all that construction going on.:confused3

We LOVE the simple life at the Fort. Maybe they should sell there camper and start staying at one of the more "happening" resorts....

Its not that hard to get on a Bus or Boat to go have some fun.

Hi all, We have never stayed at FW .. but wil be in three weeks.. we have visited.. If you are not the camping type, then you probably do not belong there.. I am a camper.. live my summer in tents and getting dirty with the fire ect. I am living for the day that I go to the fort and chill in the woods.. the more the better I always say.. If you are not someone that enjoys roughing it, they you are in the wrong place... Except, this is disney! Cant wait to take a shower in the comfort stations there.. you should see some of the places that I have showered in!!! Three weeks till the fort! Eileen:cool1:

Did they bring their own camper or were they staying in one of the cabins?

I would suggest your friends have their heads examined???!????!!?? :scratchin ;) Some folks just live to find something wrong with everything. I have been to many a campground and have NEVER found one as nice as FW. And no, I am not talking about some crazy priced HIGH END resort that most folks couldn't even dream of being able to afford.

I wouldn't pay any attention to your friends review of our second home.....

I would suggest that your "FRIENDS" opinions are not very accurate.

First of all, if they "JUST CAME BACK FROM A TRIP TO FORT WILDERNESS ," I can't understand that they would say the pool is "TERRIBLE," as the pool has been closed since mid-January, and is currently being renovated at considerable expense. If your "FRIENDS" had actually been at the Fort and looked at the pool, they must have seen the new hot tub and slide that are going in.

I can't understand your "FRIENDS" statement that "THEIR EXPERIENCE WITH DISNEY IS THEY LEFT FORT WILDERNESS IN THE PAST," when there has been considerable landscaping and site modifications done on nearly every camping loop in the past twelve months, and there are currently unmissable construction projects going on at the Fort. Further, in the past few years, almost every comfort station has been upgraded, and all of the playgrounds have received new equipment. Just last year, the Fort opened its new dog park. Even the old River Country area, which was looking pretty bad, has been spruced up recently. While there are some areas that still could use some work, I don't think that the Fort has looked better than it currently does in a long time.

Now, getting to your question, "WHY DO YOU THINK THEY WOULD SAY THIS??????", I suggest that you ask your "FRIENDS," because what they are telling you just ain't so.

If you are at all interested in the Fort, come and take a look for yourself, or spend some time browsing through the hundreds of photos that you can find right here on these boards. I think that will tell you how accurate your "FRIENDS" opinions are.

I like the Fort. There, I've cancelled out your friends, all is right in the world now :) .

Heck, I even liked the pool and it was under construction!

Wow! The Fort is a beautiful place. There are always activities for the family. It is a warm atmosphere. Heck, the last time were there our neighbors became our friends before we even had the camper backed into the site. As far as upscale.....well, I think it is. Where else on property can you get all the aminities like restaurant, pool (soon with slide! YEAH!), family activities, dog park, golf carts, boat rentals, and other's I don't even know about, for the price. Not to mention how close you are to the MK. I never would want to stay anywhere else. I don't like to rough it. That is why I have a camper. So, honestly, I don't even consider it rustic. I guess it is if you consider walking to a comfort station to shower rustic it is. But they have tile in their bathrooms and I don't. :rotfl2: :scared1:

I say they are just trying to keep sites open for their return trips. ;)

Wow- I am shocked... we havent officially stayed at the Fort yet, but I went for a visit this past weekend to check things out... It was amazing! Everyone was beyond helpful, the kids loved the horses and the sites all looked really nice... there were alot of areas that were under construction- but I took that as a sign of better things to come- fingers crossed. The comfort stations were the nicest I've ever seen in any camping facility and the kids loved playing at the playground and the beach- in fact they gave me a hard time about going over to MK after we were there- they just wanted to hang out at the Fort and play! I personally cant wait to get there! Not sure what your "friends" saw or were thinking, but I guess to each his own- thats why there is more than one flavor ice cream- right?

i got relatives like this....i ignore them, and enjoy it for me, my wife and my 4 yr old. forget what everyone else thinks about it, its up to you to see how you like it. it has changed alot since i started going in the 70s, some of it good, some of it bad and some for the worst. but i still go to enjoy what i like, no hassles, minumal bs, and the look on my kids face when we get in the car to go and when we get there.

Well if they just came back and went to the pool by the cabin, I can understand that the felt the pool was terrible, it is a small plain pool. Now I am not sure how anyone could say that Fort Wilderness is plain, it is a gorgeous campground and extremely well maintained, if they thought that this was an awful campgound, I cannot imagine what they are used to......
It seems that you should ask your FRIENDS was they mean.
Are you sure they went to Fort Wilderness and not the KOA not far from it, not that place in plain........

Everyone has different tastes. My stepmother stayed at the Poly and hated it. Said she felt isolated. I've not stayed there -but when we went over there for a meal, we thought it looked very pleasant & inviting. She has different tastes/needs than we do.

We've only been to WDW once and stayed at WL. Friend of ours were drooling at it - and it is very pretty. But the actual room is no different to us than any other. That was how we felt about it. Nice, but not what we were expecting for what we paid.

We ventured over to FW for the BBQ and liked the look & feel of it. And after reading some of the posts on this board & seeing the pics - we changed our 2009 reservations. We are now going to spend our 2009 vacation in a cabin. It just sounded more like the atmosphere for building family memories. That is what we are after - the campfire, swimming, pony riding memories. . .not the high end resort feel.
