Every time I press backspace in an in game message, I get thrown out to the log in screen.

Yes, three times in a row, while writing a response to you, I went poof!

The backspace button can also trigger the Back button on your internet window, causing you to go back to the log in screen. Just be sure to be careful when you use it!

If you all have IE7 this can be an issue. I had it do this on one computer but not my other so I uninstalled it on the one with the issue. It is a known issue on some release canidates.

I had it happen when I was just talking to someone, not sending an actual message, but typing to put up on the screen for everyone to see. It's never happened before, so maybe it's just coincidence with all the lag today.

I had this happen earlier today. I was using Firefox, not IE.

It's annoying but I'm relieved to know I'm not the only one. It happens to me when I use it in a message or when "speaking". It started happening to me on Friday. It's strange because prior to that the backspace never caused a problem. Using the backspace doesn't seem to trigger the back button during any other websurfing either, it only affects VMK. We have IE7. I would think it's something to do with the latest update to it but if the issue is affecting others using different browsers I'm not so sure. :confused3

It's hard trying to re-train myself not to use the backspace key now. *headdesk*

LOL Dara want me to send you the advice you sent me last fall when I was foolish to think upgrading to IE7 would be a good thing? :rotfl: I switched to using Pal exclusively and had no issues. Now that the true IE7 (non-beta?) is out and I updated to that, I don't have the issue. HTH! (I haven't tried it this weekend but will tomorrow and let you know if I am back to logging out.)

Hi all, I am back after 4 weeks of illness -

This issue is NOT an IE7 issue, per se. It is a SHOCKWAVE/FLASH issue in relation to Mozilla style browsers with Norton AntiVirus on your system (even if not used). The Mozilla browser is based on Netscape Navigator (which was based on the original Mozilla browser) - this browser, when installed, caused all browsers to use an old code page in which the backspace button IS the browser back button. This comes out in certain versions of Firefox and a few versions of IE7 when Mozilla Firefox is installed and a certain Shockwave version is used (not nessecarily installed, VMK is based on Shockwave and they can use any archive version) - so in essence, VMK did an update, and it messed with the Shockwave, which interacted with the Mozilla code page in IE7 because Norton blocks the proper code page from being installed in the browser

Confused yet? It gets better, uninstalling Mozilla wont help, uninstalling IE might not help either, uninstalling Norton might help. To really remove this issue from your computer, you must remove all of it. Norton, Shockwave, Flash, Mozilla, IE (this issue appears in 6 and 7, it is not a 7 exclusive issue) - and still there is no garauntee that it will work. Best bet is to try upgrading everything to the next known version.(and completely remove any Norton products from your system)

Wow, can you come over to my house for a day? I'm truly impressed, but I'm sure that's your everyday work and that's the beauty of people having a variety of jobs/talents so they can share the wealth/knowledge. :goodvibes

Question. If I'm to uninstall Norton, which is needing to be replaced for oh, probably 6 months now, what's the best affordable antivirus or something similar to Norton Systemworks that I have now? TIA

all the best AntiVirus programs are free - I use "Avast" (search download.com for it) - it is BETTER than Norton, when I fix peoples PCs and remove Norton and install Avast, I typically find about 10-15 viruses on their machines. And really, with Norton Systemworks, you have a popupblocker, firewall and a host of other programs you simply do not need because they are already in windows or in your router. Plus Norton is a complete system hog - no matter what you have for a computer, it uses at least 20% of your available memory and processor.

I am having the same problem here when using my back space. And yes I have Norton installed. Thanks for the advice, Norton's getting kicked to the curb.

Now then another anyone seeing vmk freezing up your computer when you sign off, especially the end of the nite?

I use Pal, but especially if I have two characters open it refuses to close out. I nearly always get a "Program not responding" error. Of course I usually have 2-4 other windows open also so maybe I expect too much from my computer (that's dh's reasoning anyway). My kids computer, older, can never close out the ebay motors dh leaves up either. Cntrl-alt-del is our friend. ;)

Interesting. The problem seems to have resolved for my daughter & I. Now we can use the backspace key again without it logging us out.

I have been experiancing this too for the last few days ill be typing, hit backspace and poof im gone!! Never was a problem before just started all of a sudden.

BUT, what about those of us having this issue that DO NOT have Norton. I use McAfee..
