We will be booking cypress pointe through hotel kingdom when we get our tax return and using our debit card. Will there be any problems at check in with out an actual credit card? we dont have one and dont want to go down that road again. Thanks for any info

I've used my debit card many times for hotels all over the country. Just bring your debit card with you when you check in.

I think a hotel is fine with a debit card I have used one but the rental car companies might not allow it.

We had to give a credit card for security deposit when we stayed there. I would recommend you call the hotel directly and ask them. I would recommend you have one small credit card for an emergency situation (unexpectedly having to rent a car, etc). You can always check into one of the prepaid credit cards, or the kind that are attached to your chequing account.

Be aware that hotels often put "holds" on cards for amounts substantially more than the nightly bill (to cover incidentals, etc.) On a debit card, this freezes those funds until the hold can be removed, and that can cause other transactions to bounce.

You absolutely want to call the hotel, in advance, and find out their policy. If they do put large holds on the card presented at checkin, you may want to bring cash or a prepaid credit card for the deposit instead. That way, there will be no surprises.

You DO NOT want to use a card linked to your checking account for this purpose.

i thought they sometimes put a hold on funds, so i dont want to use my debit card. what about a pay pal card? does there have to be certain amount available, guess i will call them before i book. thanks again

The hotel I stayed at in Birmingham recently had a sign that they put a hold of the total expected room charges PLUS either $50 or $100 (I can't remember) on your Debit Card. They also indicated that it could take up to two weeks for the hold to be reversed...

Call the resort and ask what the procedure is for a non-cc reservation. Plan on taking an emergency fund in the form of travellers checks in addition to any cash you plan on taking. Some resorts will have you send your deposit early to alleviate any problems at check-in. Good Luck :)

Last year we stayed at an offsite hotel and had paid in full through another site. We had to pay like $9 for 5 nights. No deposit other than that.

I went ahead and called my hotel. I had wanted to check to see if they had my reservation anyway, since I booked through Priceline. They had it and I asked about if a credit card was needed and they said that $10/day is collected at check-in either by cash or credit card for incidentals. The money is refundable. I will just make sure I have an extra $70 in the bank so I will just use my debit card.

Do you have a CHECK CARD VISA? If so, that can be assumed as CREDIT CARD, even the funding is supplied by your bank's account. Is like paying with check, but don't tell is a debit card!

yes it is a visa check card. I dont want them to put a large hold on all of my money. i did read they request a $50 deposit at check in, so if that is it then we will be ok. i better call....
thanks again for all the info

Don't tell that you have a debit card! Use the CHECK CARD VISA and they will debit it like CREDIT CARD, into your bank account!

My Visa Check Card says Check card on it. Even when I use it for regular purchases as a Credit card, it is "held" until it clears about 3 days later. Either way, it is taken away from your balance.
