Don't Hate Me for Knowing More

It never ceases to amaze me as to how many people cant enjoy the Disney magic instead of being the same miserable people that they probably are all the time. If I was that guy I would be happy to learn a new trick for the future. Dont let any of these miserable people ruin the Disney Magic for you.

I think people just get mad at themselves for not seeing an opportunity for a shorter wait in line and take it out on the person who does.

I had something similar happen at the Boardwalk Bakery. I was getting a piece of cake and wanted a cup of water, which of course I knew was free because of the DIS. A lady behind me was holding 2 bottles of Dasani, and after I got my water I heard her ask the CM "Why was his water free." I wanted to turn around and say "Because I'm special," but figured that may have been inappropriate:lmao:

From now on, I shall only refer to the Dolphin resort as "The Dolphin Fish." :)
Or the Mahi. But I have to admit that in truth I'm like Brady and just call it the Swolphin. I just couldn't resist jumping in about the fish tho' since it tied in so nicely with the "Disney info." sub-theme on this thread. ;)

My story is slightly different. I'll admit I was rude.

We had a photo shoot at the Grand Floridian with my large, extended family. There was eleven of us total. For those who don't know about the phoot shoot, you get 20 minutes with a photographer at certain resorts.

We took pictures on the staircase and proceeded outside for photos of the resort as the background. We all got into formation by the photographer. Then he just stood there. I turned around and there was a woman putting a stuffed animal on a bush. She started to take pictures of the stuffie, with her rear pointed in our direction. We waited, thinking she didn't see us, but she looked up and seemed to adjust the stuffed animal in the photographer's suggested direction for the best view of the hotel in the background. :confused3

She kept taking pictures, then her daughter? and granddaughter? showed up and she sat the child next to the stuffed animal and proceeded to take more pictures. The dozen of us just stood there in disbelief! I couldn't believe it! A stuffed animal has endless patience for picture taking. A dozen people to pose can be a nightmare!

I finally said, "please we have limited time with the photographer". She ignored us a few more minutes, but then walked away, making nasty gestures and saying stuff (luckily she was out of hearing distance before she let loose).

The photographer was very gracious and gave us an extra 5 minutes. Unfortunately when we returned home we found that all the pictures taken after that episode didn't make the CD. :headache:

I wish I didn't enjoy reading all of these stories about horrific behavior at WDW. At least no one has recounted any of the times I lost my  there. :rolleyes1

FWIW, that thing on top of the resort is a fish, not a dolphin. Artistic license, I know... but incorrect is incorrect even if it's Disney.

I'm so glad you said that! Every time I see that fish, I wonder if the designer knew what a dolphin looks like?

Edited to add: I've since read the explanation by a PP. So Bernini probably really didn't know what a dolphin or mahi mahi looks like. :)

I love it when people look at me and say, "I wish I could go to the front of the line like all the special people!" My response is always to look at them with a sad face and say very earnestly, "Oh ... I wish you could too." And then I just look at them and sigh and walk away.

:earsboy:

:rotfl2:

I posted a longer explanation a bit further on in the thread. Short answer: The original artist was a 17th century sculptor.

Since most of you here seem to know so much, would you please help me??? We are Disneyland regulars who have had annual passes for about 10 years. I know all the ins and outs of Disneyland but not Disney World. We recently moved to NC and are going to be taking our 4 children to Disney World in February. We are not staying on Disney property, although I wish we could. We will be staying at a Marriott timeshare. We were given a week there as a gift and are very grateful for that! Our kids range from 3-12. One of our children has been in and out of the hospital this whole last year so this trip is extra important to us and we want to make it extremely special on a very limited budget. Any secrets that you know about anything at Disney World, any special deals on tickets or anything you can tell me would be extremely helpful. Thank You!!!!!!!

Just wanted to say welcome to a fellow North Carolinian! GO PANTHERS!!:cheer2:

You will learn so very much from the people on the Dis! I "searched" so many questions before our first trip and not one came up without results!

It could be both a fish AND a dolphin. There is a real species called a dolphin fish, although most of us know it by another name: mahi mahi. I guess that sounds more appetizing than saying you're going to eat something that sounds like Flipper's relative.

True, but I don't think it looks a whole lot like a mahi mahi either ;)

I saw a guy go ballistic in front of Crystal Palace. He must have gone up to see how long it would be for a family of four and was told the restaurant was booked. I being a family of four with an ADR checked in right after him. Well he went crazy about "you said the restaurant was full and so on. He didn't hear a single word the CM said or was trying to say to him.

I think you are right and I also think they are annoyed that perhaps that information wasn't communicated well by signs or CMs. When I run into a situation like that (where I know that there is a shorter option) I also go to the last person in line and say "Did you know you can go up both sides?" If they didn't and choose to go then I follow them. If they decide to stay put then I go anyways but at least I have given one group who was there before me a chance to go first. Then the previous group gets yelled at and not me:rotfl:

Well it IS a Dolphin...fish. Its still stylized to the point of not representing an actual species I believe. Mahi-mahi are also known as dolphin fish.

But I call it the "Swan and Guppy". It looks more like a goldfish, but that doesn't roll off the tongue as easily...

This is a common but false explanation. It is not a Mahi Mahi. It looks like that because it is based on the "Dolphin" sculptures of 17th century sculptor Bernini. See my later post for the details.

Edit: Besides, it doesn't look much like a Mahi Mahi anyway.

I had an incident at Test Track on our last trip. We were waiting outside the doors where you watch the pre-ride video. Well you know the CMs always have everyone fill in all the area in the front. Well we were behind a family and they wouldn't move up and fill in the area, we were sort of in a single file line and you end up just being in a bunch. So we were trying to be polite since they were ahead of us and let them fill in but they never did so we and others behind us started filling in. I didn't notice but DH said he could here them talking about us and referring to us as line jumpers and going on and on. It bothered DH some but I just let it slide.

Which would be why I said it was "stylized to the point of not representing an actual species"... :)

To be more precise, it is the heraldic representation of a dolphin, which has always been presented more as a fish than the mammal. That is what Bernini used, and then used by Graves for the design of the hotel. So true, it really isn't a fish, but it is a fish-like representation of a mammal used in heraldry, referred to as the "chief of fish", most likely originating with the Dauphins of France.

That's it for history and heraldry. Now back to rude people... :)

I've run into people who weren't in the know before and have gotten yelled at for going to the shorter line, etc. I think some people need to remember that WDW is not a contest, it's supposed to be fun!

I do understand that for some it's a once in a lifetime trip, I felt that way too on our first go-round. But I didn't go psycho, and asked for information a lot so I could learn the in's and outs. :)

Oh, and by the way, we call it the "Fish and the Bird" all the time - it's a family joke for us too. ;)

To add to these comments (which I agree with)~~

There will always be some people who look for indignation, offense, and in general, some reason to get angry. Often it's these same people who, even when things go their way, find something else to complain about. Seeing this at Disney isn't so shocking, really; it's probably one of the more perfect places to see all sorts of personalities at work.

There are times when it's smart to take notice of things, comment, learn from, make right, etc....but it's all in the handling!

I agree. What gets me most is the comments by the stand-by line if they chose not to use FP, they remark about me skipping through the line when I really didn't! I try my hardest to bite my tongue but sometimes it's near impossible.
Most of us get to the point where we start to enjoy the dirty looks and comments...why should it be my problem if people are too lazy to look up how fastpass works? For the love of God, it's right on the back of the park maps!

I just breeze on through.."Later, suckers!!! " LOL.
