Don't go to Guam or it will tip over.

i thought the military guy did a very good job of answering seriously and respectfully...
i'm not sure i would have been able to keep my jaw from hitting the floor......

I would be worried that my plane would crash on an island that has a black smoke monster.

I think what he meant to say is that the population would tip (the scales) if we put more military there.

It was funny though.

I think that Rep has a medical condition (seriously!) and he may have been having an episode. But come on! You can easily drop 2 anchors on Guam to steady it and keep it from tipping over!

The part that worries me is ... we sent this man to congress?????

First heard the tape of this on the radio and the host stated that the Rep is seriously ill (and gave a diagnosis) and has episodes like this.

That is sad and I wish him the best. But it sure sounds like this illness negatively impacts his job and perhaps he should step down.

Snopes says it really happened.

They were puzzled too, as to what he was thinking when he said that.
He was thinking that the island would tip over and capsize!

After spending a great deal of time trying to figure out:

1. The word "narrowest", which he never could, and went with, "least widest" :rotfl:

2. The square footage of the island (couldn't multiply or didn't even know how to come up with square footage in general)

...the guy then says, "My fear is that, uh, the whole island will, uh, become so overpopulated that it will tip over and, uh, and capsize." He also makes the hand motions of something tipping over.

It's on youtube and can be watched. You can also see the people he's talking to trying so very hard not to laugh.

I don't know if this guy is just abysmally moronic or if he really does have some medical condition that is causing his brain function to deteriorate. Either way, he shouldn't be voting and nobody should be wasting time answering his insane questions.

But it was funny.

eta: Johnson is now saying that he didn't actually think that. He was joking. This is almost as funny as the original statement.

DH showed me this - couldn't believe it.

Can you picture the conversation the general had with his wife when he got home...

"Honey - you'll never believe me day....a congressman asked me if I was worried Guam would tip over and I had to be serious answering him.....:confused3

I think the general did a great job in holding it together....he didn't skip a beat but the two behind him cracked me up....one grabs herself and the other starts writing furiously on a tablet.

He's now saying he meant it as a "tipping point" for the island and blaming his illness. I feel for him if his illness is affecting him that much but if that's the case step down already!

We Canadians just love your politics by the way :goodvibes Highly entertaining since ours can be dry as toast! :thumbsup2
