Don't Forget Your Tires!

It's OK, Rob. Larry will never see either of our replies.

:dance3::dance3::dance3:

Only if we get quoted. In the meantime I enjoy knowing that the rest of the world gets to see it, even if he doesn't.

I see alot of you throwing a 5 yr mark on your tire replacement. I will not get into this argument. But will add this. How many of you check the age of your "New" tires. you could be getting 5 yr old tires new off the shelf. check them. here is a nice link from tire rack that show you how .

Yeppers, Mike. We learned this quite a few years ago. It's all about knowing how to read the "secret code".

The Goodyear retailer I know told me that he must monitor his inventory very closely for age.

Just so I'm not considered on the Larry train, I just posted what I read and heard. For me even though they are covered our roads in the North East suck. So 2 more years (5) they will be replaced. Oh and I have them checked from day 1, not after 5 years as someone said (trying to be nice).

Just popping in for a quick lob into this discussion... its not necessarily the age or mileage done on a tire but how it sits for a long time that can cause the inner steel to distort (go flat) so when you start to roll again, it can damage the tire. From my Dad, 25 year Dunlop veteran.

So, go camping and go often :)

Can someone give me the Readers Digest version of some of these looong posts. I have to be in bed in 3 hours. :lmao:

Denise its simple most say change tires at 5 years including me. Larry says 8. Apparantly were all wrong and he's right. Who would have thought huh

Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.

hmmmm, where have I seen that before....?

and Mike, I checked the year on the tires that they put on the MH....they got them straight off the delivery truck and when I went and checked them, they were two years old....they went back on the delivery truck and the company refused the whole shipment

They were still in shock over the fact that when they went to talk to my husband about our bearings on the MH, he said, " I am sorry, you will have to talk to my wife. I have no clue what you are talking about." I think this pushed them over the edge really.;)

I replace Carlisles when I read the name on the tire.

thats what our rig came with and the tire pressure would change 20-30 lbs with rain air temp and travel it was freaky .Hot and sunny 65 lbs smooth ride!Rain and cool 45 and all over the road?!?!?!?!?!

We had a tire blow out in our MH this past June outside of Roswell, New Mexico. Talk about being in the middle of no where! It took the tire dealership one hour to get to us to change out the tire. They didn't have the correct tire so we used our emergency spare and followed them into town. They had to order us a new tire that took a couple of days to come in. The blow out also damaged our stablizers (took out the harness wiring system) and put a hole in one of our cargo bays. The MH has been in the shop since the first of July. We hope it is finished for our tailgaiting party at LSU this coming weekend, then we leave for the fort the following week. All of the rest of the tires on the MH are nearing 4 yrs old. The one that blew out was 5-6 yrs old. Hopefully we can make this trip to the fort without any problems. Afterwards all of the tires will be replaced before our next road trip! The blow was very scary! Thankfully my DH knows how to handle big rigs.

Also try to find a replacement fender for your rig if the tire really goes $$$$$$$$$$$$$

In the case of my little camper, it's not just a fender, it's the entire interior that gets destroyed if a tire blows. I've read two instances of other owners of my brand of camper where the insurance company totaled out the trailer because of the damage from a blown tire.

My trailer will be 4 years old in April. My tires will be replaced in April of next year. I'm not even waiting the 5 years. My tires will have approximately 25K miles on them and stored inside for the past two years.

Thanks about the date code thing. I checked all of mine and it seems there all made this year woohoo. Trailer and truck. My wifes snow tires were made at the end of last year which is find. I just bought them inthe spring huge sale. I saved 40% on them.

Also just so you know if you store the camper for more than a week you should park on a non poris platform (plastic cutting bords from wally world) work great for this this also helps the tires life span. :thumbsup2
