On our trip to the library yesterday, I managed to get DD away from the kids section long enough to check out the travel section. Found lots of current guides, including Unofficial, Frommers, and DK publishing, which I checked out.

Don't forget this option instead of plunking down $ for books at the bookstore.

I like buying books! I have so many now (of all kinds) that I need another bookcase. I really want to get a good kids section going for when DFi and I have kids.

But you have a great point, especially "dated" books like WDW guides that are only good for a year or two. Also, you can save money by borrowing DVD's and CD's instead of renting/buying.

Libraries are also good places to visit on vacation. Most of them offer free internet access. Some places in Florida you can get a visitors card which will allow you to take out books and movies. We have done this in Sanibel and the card was good for a year - we got 2 trips of usage during one year! I saved on packing and my young reader had an ample supply of reading material during quiet times at the beach!

yeah- we always go to the "big" library downtown and they seem to have best selection of dvd's to check out and on tues. even have some of the new releases!!!!!!!!!!

I can go online and check books out from my library. Then they either mail them to me, or I can choose to pick it up. I check out so many more books when I can browse at home!!!

I tried my library...but they don't have any Disney Cruise books in the county that I live. Don't these people know what is important to have

i went to the library yesterday
my son took out 3 books and a dvd of treasure planet we have not seen it
great resource for books
but also they have no NEW books i couldnt find barely anything NEW
they have lots of new DVDS and storytimes so thats very cool

njziggy - Submit a request to your local library to stock those Disney travel guides!!! If you need help with titles, I'm sure everyone here can help!

Don't forget to check out the programs offered at your libraries! Lots of great free craft programs and even adult programs! (At least at the Ohio Libraries - we are lucky to have such great public support for libraries!)

You beat me to it ttfn. Anytime your library doesn't have something you want, just ask for it! It'll take a while to come in, but in the case of Disney guides the library is likely to keep buying them year after year. I've noticed most libraries don't carry the cruise books.

As for the well-funded Ohio libraries, Taft (the worst rated governer in the US...we're so proud) is trying to make that a thing of the past. We got lucky this year, because some official "found" $800 million or something crazy like that. The budget's been frozen for years, while our circulation and program attendence numbers are sky-rocketing. My library, which is luckily funded by our local community and the state (most libraries in OH are only funded by the state) are super strapped for staff. Every branch is short, and the staff is suffering. And then they decided to cut personal income tax by 21%, which really hurts! Ok, that's enough! Off my library soap box! Sorry!
