Most of our flying is to Florida and we fly Southwest---free checked bag and easy curbside luggage check-in.

Now we are going to Hawaii, flying Amenrican. Flying from Charlotte, NC if anyone has knowledge of the Charlotte airport (we usually fly from Raleigh).

Can we still use the curbside luggage check-in? How does paying for the luggage work? Do the attendants curbside take payment for the checked bags? Cash? Credit cards?
We are a party of 6 on 2 reservations (3 people on each reservation). Does each person have to check in with attendant, show ID and pay for their bag?

My DH HATES to fly and knowing what to expect ahead of time helps me deal with him. He's much better when he is familiar with "the way things work".

TIA for any info.

Everyone checking a bag must be physically present and show id (if age 18 or over).

If you check AA's website, your other questions are answered there:

Thanks so much. Guess I didn't search the AA website enough. Looks like not much different from what I would do with SW except to have the credit card handy to pay baggage fees.

It's possible that you can pay the baggage fees when you check in online - I haven't flown AA in a long time and rarely check bags, and this wasn't clear on their website.

Yes, if you check in online, you can pay baggage fees with a credit card that way. We've done that on AA a couple of times.
